1. DV247 were knocking Gibsons out for a lot less than that a couple of years ago... Thunderbirds and SG basses too. I picked up a Les Paul bass for £650 I think it was. It only lasted 5 minutes as it was the heaviest bass I've ever picked up, couldn't even consider playing it live. Sounded good though!
2. I am proud to say I am the new owner of Rick's fine '66 Slab replica. And what a magnificent beast it is too. Rick made me feel very welcome and even went out of his way to set up the bass for me before I popped in. I could have happily talked bass all day! Cheers Rick - I'm thrilled with it.
3.
As far as fuel contributions go, Dartford is a freebie. It could be in your hot hands within the hour!
I'm in Peckham at the moment
4. Very tempting as I know I'm only up the road from you...
5. Handsome instrument! I've always wanted to try a Sadowsky.
6. Some decent pics and a more detailed description would help...
7.
Err. . surely that's exactly what they just did. Send us back the wrong one and we'll send you the right one is rectifying the mistake!
If you have purchased something online and been sent an incorrect item, the shop cannot demand return of the incorrect item before fulfulling their side of the contract. It's also their responsibility to arrange that return and cover the cost. Of course we are all civilised people, these things do happen from time to time and when it's happened to me I've returned the items without question. However for a shop to demand return of the incorrect item before sending out the correct one is a no-no.
8.
Cheers guys......it will be on a J rather than P, but sounds like a Soul Food will fit the bill.
Front pickup then 😁 Easy to sell on too if you don't like it. I think you will though.
9.
However, he also used the Jazz bass ever since 1982, or 35 years. So compared to 7 years, its hard to say that he is associated with it.
Apologies, didn't mean to attack you personally. It just always seems that on a thread about Ricks someone always lists players who once played them but have since moved on to other things. I don't play a Fender Precision at the moment, haven't for years. Doesn't mean my Fenderbird or Yamaha is any better, they just make the noises I like hearing at the moment. The irony is, for all my OTT defensiveness, I am actually an ex-4003 owner 😂 That bit about Geddy's Jazz is still wrong though 😉
10.
It does seem that of all the people who are associated with rics, very few stuck with them for any length of time, apart from Chris Squier (who said his sounded very different from other rics), and Lemmy (who had a lot of fake rics). I saw from a the Jam and he plays a P bass (and a semi acoustic one). Geddy Lee has played jazzes for most of his career (and started with Ps - the time with the Ric was actually fairly short). Roger Glover had P basses as well as Rics, but hasn't played them for a while.
Here we go again... Geddy played the Rick over 8 albums from 1975 to 1982. He started playing the Jazz in the early 80s but then switched to Steinberger. He then used the Wals for a few years and on less albums than he used the Rick, but people don't use this as an excuse to rubbish Wals. Roger Glover used lots of different basses in his career, and it's only really with the Vigier he plays today that he's really stuck with one. During his first stint with DP he used the Rick on two albums against one with the Precision and one with a Mustang. During the 80s and 90s he played Peavey and Tune. Lemmy having 'a lot of fake Rics' - possibly. He had real ones too. And s signature model. Chris Squire always said his bass sounded different to other Ricks but it doesn't really. You'd have to AB to notice the differences. Apologies for coming over a bit defensive but it's getting a bit tiresome now, reeling off a list of dubious facts and people who once played Ricks but now don't as 'proof' of how crap the instruments are.
11. I think the Bass Soul Food is excellent and can easily do the Chelsea Dagger sound. With a P bass that is 😉
12. I've never had the opportunity to play one sadly but I think 'Bongo Alternative' is going to be my new stage name.
13. Andertons is still showing 15th August for the white one... tempted to order but doubt they will make that date.
14.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-Ergodyne-EBD550-4-string-Bass-Walnut-finish-collection-only-S-Cambs/182671611758 (But be cautious if there are cracks around the lower horn...)
Those cracks put me right off. I bought one of these a few years ago, in goldfish orange. Sadly when it arrived the body had snapped clean in half. 😣
15. Proud new owner of Tony's Boss LS2. I have no idea how to use it yet. Anyway, great chap to deal with, no probs whatsoever. Cheers!
