1.
I bet it balances better too, infact my only slight gripe is that the controls are all in a line and the jack is on the side of the body. I much prefer the old school gibson look. But thats a drop in the ocean on what is otherwise a beautiful instrument.
It makes far more sense having the jack socket on the side - when it's on the front the cable pulls against the bottom knob. Unless you don;t run it through the strap but that's just asking for trouble!
2. Them Crooked Vultures at the Brixton Academy. It was definitely just the wrong side of loud, where things are starting to get uncomfortable. I actually found out later that the gig had left some poor chap with such horrendous tinnitus that he commited suicide a short time later. Funnily enough, I've seen Motorhead several times and never thought it was too loud.
3.
Just listened to a couple of tracks through headphones; toppy, middy, distorted, not a fundamental in sight - everything that's bad about a bass sound.
New headphones needed 😀
4. Looks like a bass drawn by a kid on a pencil case. Everything looks off to me - a bit like that Zakk Wylde SG/Flying V mutant. Awful.
5.
They look good, but he seems to only have the 2 pickup option. I'm guessing they're quite pricey too? Although cheaper than an original
I've seen single pickup Lulls over on Talkbass, and the Tom Petersson sig has two pickups right up by the neck, so I'm sure it can be done. Very expensive though.

7. Bloody lovely I think! I wish the JC had the white pickup though. Never satisfied, me.
8. Blue - are these real ads, or ones conjured to inspire discussion?
9.
That's not a USA Hamer, it's one of the later import models.
I thought as much. Still a Hamer though.
10.
I think I read on here that Alembic made an exceptions to their 'no endorsements/freebies' policy for Stanley Clarke and Mark King. Did Wal do any kind of deal with Paul McCartney when he was using his 5-string?
Remember though, SC (unsure about MK) used and paid for his Alembics throughout his career - the only freebie he received was a special commerative model a few years back. It was never a standard endorsement deal - he played them because he wanted to. It's the same with Sadowsky. Jason Newsted received a freebie after ordering his 8th or something
11. Here's one hidden on Ebay... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-bass-guitar-/272149795892?hash=item3f5d645434:g:tOEAAOSwFNZW0x46
12. Hidden in plain sight, listed as 'electric bass guitar'. Bargain too, £150 with no bids and comes with hard case, practice amp and various other goodies. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-bass-guitar-/272149795892?hash=item3f5d645434:g:tOEAAOSwFNZW0x46 Collection only otherwise I'd be straight on it!
13. What a majestic looking instrument. It certainly lives up to it's name!
14.
Any standout mistakes in particular from leeds or IoW?
During the intro riff to Summertime Blues on Leeds, JE hits a massive open E instead of a D. A balls-up but still one I feel obliged to copy whenever we cover it. Also, in the IOW set, JE's backing vocals are a bit eccentric during I Don't Even Know Myself.
15. Beautiful bass. And that hidden jack socket is genius.
16.
On that tour Phil was playing an Ibanez Blazer bass with a mirror scratch plate.
I've never seen Phil play a Blazer... He did play a Roadster for a time, the active single pickup model with an aftermarket scratchplate IIRC.
17. I reckon you should go for something a bit oddball and off the wall - a bass you've always admired from afar but never bought due to the worry that it would never get played. I've been lucky enought to receive two basses as gifts - a Danelectro Longhorn from my wife and a Hofner Violin Bass from my parents - both of which I adore, partly beacuase they were gifts and mean something, but also because they are just wonderful, odd little basses. The Hofner in particular will probably never get played in public (I'm 6ft 4) but it never fails to put a smile on my face when I play it around the house. Thump, thump, thump. It can be tempting to order that custom ACG/Shuker etc, only to find it's not really 'you'. p.s. Happy birthday
18. I used an EHX Micro POG on a recording a while back. Nicely convincing 8-string sound, certainly close enough for live use. I've been after one ever since but they are a bit pricey as I would only use it on a couple of songs...
19. It's a Roland bass with synth pickup. Made by Ibanez IIRC. Phil took out all the synth bits though. Edit: Already posted by Old Horse Murphy several hours ago 😊
20. Two 2x10s, every time. Simply because I stack them vertically which lets me hear them far better - a 4x10 hits the back of my knees.
21.
As far as I know there is no tribute to the Rolling Stones in Dartford
We happen to be very proud of Lord Sir Jagger of Dartford I'll have you know...
22. No idea but bear in mind Rex only played his Charvel bass up to Cowboys. VDOP was a Stingray 5 I believe and from then on, Spectors. I honestly don't think the preamp is vitally important to the sound - I mean, Rex's tone is completely different to Ellefson's. What bass do you intend to put it in?
