1. It was a standard active Fender Jazz apart from the upper octave being fretless. It also had a 12th inlay LED and a laser LED on the headstock IIRC. Pretty sure it was a custom job for Cronos, not released for the public. There was a company doing a similar thing that advertised heavily in Bass Player a few years later but the name escapes me.
2.
Cool story, My band is a 70s style hard rock and blues band. We have been together for 10 years and play around 75 shows annually. We still attract and have a loyal following of the 60+ demographic. When the 20 somethings wonder into one of our shows they leave immediately. That's fine, we're lucky, we don't need their business.
There's the answer, surely. Your band appeals to the over sixties and not to twenty-somethings. Doesn't mean they don't like rock, just that your band doesn't appeal to them for whatever reason. Blue - do you have any clips of your band playing that we could see? It would be interesting to get an idea of the type of stuff you play.
3. I've dealt with Mark many times - top chap. You're lucky living so close, he has some wonderful basses at the moment!
4. Beautiful guitar, but it's a Dot 335 - the 355 was a slightly more luxurious version. ☺
5. Anyone have any experience of this? Any risks? I don't know why there should be but alarm bells always start ringing, hazy memories of warnings never to purchase from sellers in the East or something daft.
6. For heavy drop-tuned music there's no harm in a bit of flop. All that rattle and growl can throw up some interesting tonal quirks and anomalies which can add to the aggression. I used to use Roto 50 - 110 for C#. Worked well for me.
7.
It seems to me the issue here is more with the drummers attitude than the actual damage itself. It`s annoying if any gear gets damaged by someone, but if they aren`t very apologetic afterwards, well this would probably increase my annoyance somewhat.
This.
8. Pics would help as there were a couple of different versions...
9.
The band Yes. I was just making a pot of coffee and they were playing one of their songs on the radio. I have tried, On recommendation I've bought 2 or 3 of their albums. I don't get them though.
Completely missing the point of the thread!
10.
The price! I was hoping they did a 'cheap' custom set of flats as they do with the rounds. It's a custom set I have on (.108 Bottom E). G,
I ordered mine from the US - cost me about £45 all in I think. Still fiendishly pricey for strings but I figured I wouldn't be changing them again any time soon...
11. It sounds to me that your issue is not so much with playing the bass itself, but with playing bass for a band which is not giving you any spiritual reward. I've been there - I quit the band. Not an easy decision but I found my lack of enthusiasm was starting to poison my relationship with music itself, and not just that of the band. There's no need for it to be unpleasant and you might even get a nice farewell gig out of it! After leaving the band I never stopped playing as such but found it a bit uninspiring to sit at home and play unaccompanied. It's difficult when you're used to playing with others, particularly with a great drummer. After about a year or so I ended up depping for a mate's covers band and am now the full-time bass player (I say full -time, our gigs aren't as frequent as we would hope!). It's just covers, classic rock and pop, but it's great to play out of the comfort zone, and it's great not to have to bash heads writing material all the time. And needless to say it's a wonderful feeling to have a roomful of people up and dancing to a song they know and love. Of course it may all pan out differently for you but I honestly think the first step is a clean break from your current situation. Onwards and upwards.
12. I think a lot of posts are missing the point of the OP. It's not so much major bands/artists that you don't like, but rather ones that have always been there but for whatever reason went under your radar. I think A recent discovery for me - Cheap Trick. I've always been aware of them but never knew their music - apart from a couple on various 'Rock' compilations. I now have an entire back catalogue to work through - so far it's been an utter joy. And FWIW I love The Megadeaths, or at least the band they eventually became.
13. I reckon if you email PJ Rubal at Spector he will sort you out with replacements. Spector's customer service is second to none. I can't remember the exact email address but I'm sure someone will be along with it in a minute!
14. EB0 or EB3? What are the upgrades?
15.
And You guessed right. When your offering someone a job with money it's a completely reasonable question. Blue
Would you turn an applicant down because their choice of vehicle didn't meet your standards?
16. Either John, I'm Only Dancing, for being the first complete bassline I ever learned, or Heroes, just because it's Heroes.
17. Awful news to wake up to. So, so sad this morning.
18.
Robert Trujillo!
Really?!
