Anybody any idea what this guy is on about?
Cosmo Valdemar replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
I think they were ok in filming him, after all there's no expectation of privacy in a shop that's open to the public, and many do have CCTV to record such incidents. It was a bit crude to post it online, especially as the consensus seems to be that this particular customer wasn't the full shilling. That's the concerning part, and only seems to add weight to what the customer is complaining about - bad attitudes. Frankly, if what he's saying is true, it would probably annoy me too. Not enough to flail my arms and threaten to "twat" somebody, but my annoyance would probably be at the same level as this chap's.
Probably a good idea to take it down from here. We have no idea of what's going on or who that chap is. I can't see what further discussion can gain. -
Pretty sure it's not Red Dog in Edinburgh...never had anything but great experiences in the place btw, great shop. Would hate for it to get an unwarranted bad rep.
It probably isn't Red Dog. It's certainly been a few years since I visited. -

It's all over Facebook. I find it highly distasteful to film such an incident - to post online for comedy is shameful. I can't see any other reason for uploading it for all to see. Incidentally the shop made me think of Red Dog in Edinburgh, but the accents heard would suggest otherwise! -
Just for laughs - worst bass colour ever...? Pics reqd.

I've liked everything pictured so far ☺ -
I don't see a problem with it. Some people are too busy to devote more time than that to their music.

I work in Peckham. It isn't unusual for me to see even genteel old ladies noisily hawking and producing a sizeable grolly for all to behold. It's absolutely horrendous.
Maude, that is an excellent candidate - but I think you are confusing form with paint job. Don't let the truly horrendous and completely unergonomic body shape distract you... http://www.activebass.com/item--LP.DLHBASS-CPR
Have you ever played a Longhorn? Very comfortable! And I think they look amazing FWIW. -
At Glastonbury that neck pick up had a white cover and resembled a Telecaster bass neck humbucker without the chrome cover.
I thought that on the close up but other shots looked more 'normal' - I think it was possible a reflection on the chrome making it look white.
Dunno who we think we are, telling bands when they should stop. It's a very negative attitude and to me, the easy option rather than suggesting how best they could continue instead. But that's human nature I guess, sadly. Are we not better than that?
We're not telling anybody to do anything, just expressing opinions.

Squier Precision - Matt Freeman model. Incredible.
Cosmo Valdemar replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
Ah, I'd love a Matt Freeman with the fiesta red or the sonic blue body of the CV Squiers! I'm sure I'm not the only one, so the opportunity for a trade would arise, I'm sure!
If you swapped the body, would it still be a Matt Freeman? -
The single pickup version is available in cherry red and in black. Thomann have them.
By jove you're right! I thought they were discontinued.

Forgive me if I've missed something but are they doing another run of the single pickup model? I really regret not getting one before when I had the chance.
Is anybody else missing the big man? A little underwhelming in the bass department imho
As it has been since Pino joined. This is the first time I've actually been able to hear a bass presence of note. True to form though, he's just buggered the My Generation bass solo completely. I've got nothing against Pino, but I still maintain he was a completely inappropriate choice for the job.
Chris was a living legend and is now an immortal.
Such a shock... I never thought for a minute he wouldn't be ok. Without a doubt one of my greatest influences, both as a bassist and as a member of Yes. I'm so glad I got to see him live back in 2004. It was my greatest wish that Jon Anderson would return to the fold and we would have that remarkable team together again but it's not to be. Ironically enough, I read only yesterday an interview with Jon in Prog magazine. It seems they were in touch after Chris' diagnosis and, despite anything that had gone down on the business side of things, amends were made. Musical brothers to the end.

I... can... hear Pino?!?

Just watching it on Youtube now. Lemmy seems a bit bewildered and has twice lost his place vocally, and he bungled the bass break in Damage Case. His hands are shaking. I love Motorhead so much, and I know Lemmy will do it til he drops, but...

Wow!

I don't think you want everyhting too tight. The song's supposed to be ratty and dirty - a bit of flop and rattle won't hurt. I played in drop C for years using 50 - 110 Rotosounds. But, for the heavier way of life, I much prefer downtuned 4 strings to fivers, you can get a far more aggressive sound. IMHO and all that.
I read somewhere that Jason used ESP basses on the garage days re-revisited ep. I think there is a pic of Jason with Cliffs Aria bass on the sleeve though.
It's definitely the Aria. Unmistakeable sound.
Did Jason use a Spector on the black album? Always thought it sounded like a Spector on Enter Sandman.
Black album is mostly Spector, with some Wal I think. Jason played a Warwick 12 string on 'Wherever I May Roam', those great bit 'clannnggg!' sounds. -
Bass in Metallica has never sounded better than Jason's Sadowskys and whatever else he used to record (Zon, Spector, Alembic etc.). The guy had great taste in gear and a great sound.
I never though much of Jason's Sadowsky sound. I recall from interviews at the time that he was conciously trying to achieve a more Motown-inspired sound which didn't really work - subsequently his Sadowsky tone on record comes across as quite loose and undefined (ReLoad, I'm looking at you!). The majority of Metallica and Load was recorded with Spectors, with a bit of Wal here and there. I may be wrong but I don;t think he ever recorded with the Alembics in the studio. IMO his best sound is with Cliff's Aria Elite on the Garage Days EP. Brutally punchy and growly, and LOUD! -
And don't get me started on Quirk Crammit. His note choice is just abysmal - but I give him all the credit in the world for his rhythm playing. Dude goes stroke for stroke with James Hetfield (fnarr) on those riffs, and he does it live.
On the early Metallica records, Kirk only played the solos. All rhythm guitar was played by Hetfield only. A common practice in metal recording though, easier to get a tighter sound that way.
