1. Gorgeous basses. I too couldn't stand the scratchplate - they look the part but it felt like fingernails on a blackboard whenever I touched it 😨 Here comes the GAS again...!
2.
Did he use the modded Rick on Who Do We Think We Are? The bass is awesome on that album.
I believe he did... Still very Rick bit with a massive low end. I prefer his Machine Head sound, a bit more clank and definition. But they're both cool!
3. Trade pending...
4.
Alembic awfulness
That first one isn't Alembic. The second one? Well it's a little uninspired possibly but it's hard to go wrong with simple symmetry. It certainly suits the body designs it goes with.
5.
Utterly, utterly dreadful. I don't care how great the rest of the bass might be... this is a carbuncle.
That is AWESOME!
6.
Being old enough to remember the Kenny Everett compilation (12" on lime green vinyl) most of these has left me umimpressed.
I've got that! We used to listen to a tape recording of the actual radio broadcast when we were kids. Here are some gems: http://youtu.be/9EEZAivzl1Q http://youtu.be/ql3pwELzqZM http://youtu.be/Zo8DhbQw_O4
7. Just saw this on FB. Very nice indeed!
8. It's already been blocked!
9. It's a Warwick isn't it?
10.
Epiphone are about to replace the Classic Pro with the Vintage Pro, with vintage style chrome pickups... Hopefully they will be close to the Thunderbuckers!
We live in hope...
11. I would love a Lull 'bird - particularly the one with the oversized body - but they are beyond my budget sadly. My main bass is a Cataldo Fenderbird which uses Thunderbucker Ranch pickups, reverse engineered from the original Gibson pickups like the Lulls. They too sound wonderful, I assume they are similar. The sound puts a big daft grin on my face.
12. Open to trade offers...
13. Trade offers considered!
14. Cor blimey!
15.
That does sound interesting, I prefer the older brighter sounding pickups!
I've been thinking about this a lot, being a fan of the old-style Thunderbirds. Epiphone could be onto a winner here, but I really, really hope they get it right - proper headstock, correct pickup placement. Hopefully they won't just use the current Classic Pro and add the different hardware. It wouldn't be a disaster if they did - and I'd still probably buy one - but this is a real opportunity to put out an authentic 60s Thunderbird and I hope they don't mess up.
16.
I saw them last Sunday at the O2 Arena in Greenwich. Just because, really. I wouldn't have missed it but, as a performance, I thought it was rather patchy. Some songs were epic - Warpigs was just amazing. Others lack-lustre. Ozzy wasn't in particular good voice or form with some rather strange phrasing to the songs, like he was singing at a different tempo to the band. Screen close ups of Geezers hands showed some fairly bad arthritic bumps onm his hands - he must have been in some pain I would think. Even Iomi was off colour - guitar sounded very muddy from where I was. Massively long drum solo whilst the rest of the band had 40 winks - kind of split into 4 sections but he did pretty much exactly the same each time. All done by 10pm, too. I saw them a couple of years ago at Hyde Park and it was like a different band - just 2 years ago they had more of an edge, this time it was largely going through the motions. Glad to have been there but glad they are done. Support was Rival Sons - they were the business, I thought. Reminiscent of an early Led Zep (without the plagiarism).
I saw them on the Tuesday. For most of the evening Ozzy was spot on, to my surprise. Noticeably less animated between songs though. Less manic.
17.
Exactly! For a farewell gig, it's shame they seem to admit that it's all about the first 3 albums. As I said, I don't think it is. Far better band than that.
I think it's more because Ozzy simply can't sing any of the high stuff anymore. So nothing from SBS or Sabotage. Although they did play instrumental versions of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Megalomania much to my utter joy!
