Always great to hear again - nearly 43 years later!!
I always preferred "made in europe" mainly due to Glenn Hughes. Ducks & runs for cover!
My Dad's on that album... -
Tommy Bolin anyone? 'ducks'
Wrong album. -
And Nicky Wire from the Manics, he does it a lot! When I first starting playing all those years ago I played with upstrokes quite a bit. It felt quite natural. Then along came a more experienced player who told me it was wrong and that was that! I still do it from time to time though - it can give certain phrases a more urgent, jerkier feel. I find I do it naturally on off beats - the main riff to The Boys Are Back In Town, for example. Try it!

I've found myself in possession of Mr C's beautiful Squier Precision. It's rather smashing. Paul's a great chap to deal with and man enough to brave Bluewater on a Saturday.

Sound quality at The Roundhouse - Chic
Cosmo Valdemar replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
Can't say I've ever been impressed with the sound at Roundhouse for any gig I've been to.
This, I'm sorry to say. Except for Deep Purple, they sounded great! Experience has lead me to stand at the back for optimum sound. -
Considering I'm playing more funky stuff lately it's always good to have a backup that doesn't look metalz like my BC rich does.
It would be awesome to see someone play a funk gig with a BC Rich Widow!
New member of the Danelectro Appreciation Society here. I recently bought a Longhorn and I absolutely love it. Love the way it looks, love the way it sounds, love the fact it weighs as much as a hedge sparrow's wing. The Dano sound can cut it in rock, funk, blues, anything 'old school'. Yet dial in more tone and increase the the back pickup in the blend and it has some real bite. Mine is black. On the strength of that I even more recently bought a DC9 in gold sparkle and it looks ridiculously camp - love it. I think a gold lamé strap would be interesting.... sounds similar but different.
I've got a limo black reissue from a few years ago with the ordinary vol/tone knobs and slightly more adjustable bridge. I adore it - it's considerably more versatile than they get credit for. The best sound I had was tuned to drop C through an Ashdown rig - massive chunky tone with a great treble bite on top. My only issue is that it doesn't stay in tune very long. I thought about swapping the tuners but didn't want to detract from what makes it what it is.
Many thanks for all that Martin, really kind but Dover IS just a tad of a trek You certainly appear to be the first known person to buy one. Don't know what the beef is with the Hammers to be honest. This is possibly 'Arry's most iconic bass. As much as I would love the stripes to be black and white and the badge to be the Toon, it would not then be a replica of one of my most revered basses. So, instead of slagging it off and raining on somebody's new bass day, perhaps keep it to yourself and move quietly on, OR, I will take a note of your name and wait for your NBD thread, mwh hah haaaaa
I'm not trying to ruin anybody's NBD I assure you. I've no doubt it's a fantastic bass - which is why I'm a bit peeved that I could never own one, solely down to the logo. If it doesn't bother you, that's great, but for me it's a big enough factor to stop me playing it. Again, no offence meant to the OP.

I don't think anybody's said "ad hominem" for a while, have they?

Come on people, let's not feed the troll...
My first bass was an 'Axe' brand four string which I enthusiastically bought form an ad in Kerrang magazine after saving paper round money for about five months. Never in tune as the bridge pulled away from body when the strings were tightened for tuning. Weighed a ton, you could drive a truck under the strings at the fifth fret, horrible instrument. I actually put black insulating tape over the name on the headstock in case someone recognised it from a distance i was so embarrassed by it.
I remember lusting after those Axe basses... I would have been about six at the time.

I can only second what's already been said. Likewise I have chosen not to renew my subscription. It's been a traditional birthday gift from the Mrs for the past few years but this time I've told her not to worry - I reckon I get 15 minutes reading time out of each issue. Just for the record (and if mr McIver is still taking notes), major irritations:

Ridiculous angles used when taking pictures of basses being reviewed. There have been several examples when I have had little idea what the bass actually looks like.
Cartoonish airbrushing of the front covers. I understand the magazine needs to be appealing on the shelves of WH Smith but are we really more likely to buy a copy if JJ Burnel appears wrinkle-free and apparently wearing theatrical make-up?
This has hit me hard. Iconic player, so inspiring - in both his music and as a human being.

A Maverick Nemesis in a funk and soul band? Tis not normal! Welcome from another local(ish) chap.

Burgubdy Mist Fender Jazz? How could I say no?! Did a trade with my Yamaha BB425 - Mark was an engaging host and sets up his basses to perfection! Looks after them too. Deal with confidence.
Mind you, I bet those twin P-style pickups make it roar like a beast. On steroids.
They do indeed. I had one of these for a while, it was clear why Entwistle used the PP arrangement for so long! I'm always surprised we don't see it on more basses.

Incredible find! Coincidentally I was watching John Entwistle play one in the Kids Are Alright vid this morning. Such a cool looking bass.

If the fiver is in the same league as the four string I tried at the LBGS it will be something very special indeed.

I'm not really an Abba fan but if I change my mind, I'll be the first in line.
See Jet at 0.38 and again at 2.10: https://youtu.be/xFyVLsLNEBc
And that, friends, is why I lust after a Classic Vibe Precision!

That is a killer looking Precision.
