1.
Look at the GK Neo 112-ii cabs. Great value, build and importantly tone.
This! I have two of them.
2. [sub]Well done mate. There's nothing quite like playing outdoors is there! [/sub] [sub]Beautiful bass too.[/sub]
3. http://www.bachmusik.com/en/ Pretty good by all accounts, usual cheap pots/wiring but easily upgradeable and structurally sound. They seem to have drastically cut down on their Thunderbird-inspired basses, they used to do loads of non-reverse models. Wish I'd jumped on one when I had the chance now!
4. I haven't tried them but I would imagine the neck dive would still be extreme.
5.
In an ideal world I'd buy this, lock myself in my music room with some beer and just play all right now and wishing well over and over again.
Give me one of your T-40s and it's yours...
6. I never found a use for it. Mind you, when I first got the amp I did several gigs with it on thanks to that daft back to front button...
7. I've owned both. The Euro was heavier but more comfortable - my Rebop suffered with the old neck dive a bit as the body is very light and a bit smaller than the Euro body. I never owned them at the same time so never got to make a proper comparison but I remember them being very similar tonally, but then again, I dirty up my tone quite a bit and the results were similar, both can be brutally aggressive beasties. Clean actives are not the way for me.
8. I'm now open to any trade offers. Whatcha got?
9. Blimey, blast from the past there!
10. I can't imagine your current setup would be lacking in volume or power. Have you considered something like a Tech 21 preamp pedals? Loads on here swear by the VT Bass pedal but I love the Leeds, You can use them either as a standard pedal or run it into the effects return of your amp, effectively bypassing the preamp and just using the power stage. That way all your tone is coming from the pedal. Lovely vintage happiness all day long. And considerably cheaper than buying a while new rig!
11.
Loose screw somewhere or maybe a wire inside that's rattling against the horn (you mean tweeter don't you)?
That little thing in the top corner of the cab that makes hissing sounds
12. I've always been very much a disbeliever in horns on bass cabs, and usually have them completely off, but just for a laugh I decided to turn it up on my Gallien Krueger NEO112. Lo and behold it really brought an extra bit of life to my tone, and not at all hissy and raspy as I imagined! So that was nice. But there was a considerable downside - whenever I played a note, the horn responded with a loud rattly/shaky sound I can only compare to a maraca or something similar. This happened the instant I played a note but was only there for a second - the rest of the note rang out fine. Of course this was still unacceptable as the unwanted noise seemed to be as loud as the note. Being clever, I remembered I had two of these cabs so grabbed the other one to test and all was well. As I mentioned before I have never used the horns before. I have owned the cabs from new and have only gigged them once. They sometimes get played for an hour here and there at home but most of the time they sit idle sadly. Any ideas of what the problem might be? Bloody horns!
13.
Rolling back the volume also changes the loading on the pickups and reduces the treble a bit. So if your liking your top end a lot a pedal might work better.
This. Anyway as luck would have it I stumbled upon a used lpb1 (cheers Dude!) So I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers for all the suggestions.
14.
+1 for this. Standard practice, I'd have thought; a no-brainer.
Won't be very accurate live though and will probably end up in much twisting of knobs to get back to where I was before. Faffing about is the technical term I think.
15.
EHX LPB-1 maybe?
Now that looks good! Bit worried that the blurb continually refers to overdrive, hopefully it can be used simply a a volume boost... GAK also suggested the Behringer PB 100 - even cheaper - but the tone knobs look like unnecessary extras.
16.
Define "cheap". Pretty much any pre-amp pedal will do that if the EQ is set flat, just boost either the Gain or the Volume to the desired level. Come to that, most FX pedals with a Level control will do it too. Set the FX itself to be neutral and turn up the Level. My favourite work-around is the classic Boss LS-2 pedal. Run a patch cable from Channel A Output straight to Channel A Input (i.e. no actual pedal in the Channel A loop) and you have a very controllable boost pedal. Experiment with the pedals you already own, but which you are not currently using. You may be surprised ...
Cheap... I dunno, less than £50? In my head I'm thinking of just an on/off pedal with a volume knob. I get your point about pre-amp pedals and the like but that seems slightly like overkill as I only need the occasional volume boost, all the other goodies would be going to waste...
17. I'm not familiar with the model so I'm looking forward to seeing the pics! Congrats. Nothing like a NBD.
18. Does the Fernandes run in stereo? Please say it doesn't... Ooh and what is the scale length?
19. In our current set there are a couple of songs that require me to take the solo, but sadly at the moment it they aren't cutting through too well - is there such a pedal available that will give me a volume boost without changing the tone? Cheap and cheerful will do.
20. Wow! I've always been intrigued by these single pickup raptures but have never heard one or been lucky enough to have seen one in the flesh (wood?). Congrats! Let us know how you get on.
21.
He did but I'm not sure it was entirly serious..... It was hilariously pants though.
I'm afraid to say it was deadly serious... Might have been a bit more entertaining had tongues been planted firmly in cheeks.
22. I think popular 'Grumpy Old Man' Rick Wakeman used to be in a band back in the day.
23. Looks like Pete Agnew's Rick from Nazareth. Roger Glover had one with the same mods but his was black. Don't get me started on the shirt...
