1. Oooohh... Whereabouts are you?
2. Apologies for being a bit obvious but it has to be Close To The Edge. Utter once in a lifetime, Mars in conjunction with Jupiter-style perfection.
3. This was mine - it's an excellent pedal. I'm tempted to buy it back.
4. How is this still here?!
5.
Please delete this thread, don't have time for some people's answers. Btw, leave me alone, I'm going to bass gear, I only wanted to ask. How am I supposed to try something out when it's not at any store in UK except for Bass Gear? They'll probably go out of stock anyway because it is a Fodera. So thanks a lot for some people's answers on this forum. Those of you who were kind enough to give a decent reply (even though how stupid the question sounds I admit), thank you. 6. I think Billy is more than up to the job. He's a previous member of Yes of course so he knows the material, and can manage the harmonies too. He was also great friends with the great man so to me he seems like the natural choice. Have a look at this - Billy on bass with Alan White and Tony Kaye: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8xkonlAu8Y
7.
Those do get quite a bit of positive feedback - and can sound huge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiqMsdizcxU
Sounds great!
8. Looks like a classic Fender parts bin special, and the name is ridiculous, but it sounds damn good!
9.
I've really valued reading through this thread as I'm in a similar boat. My Ashdown RC500 evo ii has died a death and is beyond economical repair (needs new PSU and it's cooked half the transistors on the board). I have a Sansamp Bass VT and use a trex bass fuzz and tend to have a slightly overdriven sound pretty much all the time onto a full on fuzz through a schroeder 410l. I need to get a new head but don't have a huge budget to play with. I've been looking at a lightweight heads but have been a bit disappointed with the overall heft of some of the amps I've tried before. They just haven't had the same big chunky natural low end of the Ashdown which I really loved. However I don't want to get anything as heavy and I don't want a hifi esque tone. I've been eyeing up the new sansamp VT 500. It's appealing as I'm used to the tone of the pre-amp pedal that's been in my chain for years. If I get one I can also sell the pre-amp pedal too for £100ish. Are there any other contenders for less than £500? Am I asking too much for this budget? I play in a really loud 3 piece with a big hitting drummer which doesn't help! Any advice is much appreciated.
If you like the sound of the VT Bass pedal, you could use it as a preamp into the effects return of any amp. That's what I do but with the Leeds pedal. That way the actual amp itself isn't so important, as long as it's loud and powerful enough as you are really only using it as a power amp.
10. I'm ashamed to say I thought he was long dead!
11. Bump and price drop for the bass wah.
12. Paul is now the hopefully proud owner of my Joyo Classic Flange pedal. Not just any flange - classic flange. No problems whatsoever - enjoy the pedal mate!
13. Just sold my EHX Linear Power Booster to Dan with no problems whatsoever. Great comms and quick payment. Enjoy the pedal Dan!
14. Dan is now the hopefully proud owner of my EHX Bassballs. A pleasurable deal all round!
15.
Does not help much.... (one listed has photo of back cover) http://www.ebay.com/...=p2047675.l2557 edit: headstock looks similar to the acoustics
That looks like the one!
16.
I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty certain that is one of Peggy's Rob Armstrong basses. He was definitely playing Rob Armstrong basses around this time. He's holding it in the back cover photo on Richard Thompsons "Hand of Kindness" album.
We have a lead! I've just googled Rob Armstrong guitars and his acoustics have a distinctive curve to the upper body that looks similar to the Pegg bass above!
17.
Not many. Blue
I have no idea what this means.
18. Damn good bass player, Eric Haydock. I Can't Let Go has to be one of the greatest basslines of the era - Fender Bass VI I believe (that's not him in the video). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN8KraEvsnc
19.
From young people saying; " I don't get The Beatles" Blue
There's a difference between a young person not 'getting' The Beatles and this huge cultural divide that you seem to insist exists! I have no doubt there are a lot of young people who rabidly dislike the band and are unable to understand what all the fuss is about. Equally there must be some of the older generation who feel exactly the same way. It might be different in the US.
20.
I'm not quite sure what it is but it is absolutely not an Alembic.
Yeah, definitely not Alembic. The tone isn't that clear on the clip but it sounds like a Precision but sharper and growlier.
21.
Hard to see. Is this pic (below) as good as it gets?

Hard to see. Is this pic (below) as good as it gets?
Cheers ikay!
22. A little Friday challenge for you all. I've had this concert on CD for ages and have always loved the bass sound, but had no idea as to what was making it (Not Dave Pegg's fingers). I've just stumbled upon some Youtube footage from that very concert and there it is! Sadly I don't recognise the shape at all, hopefully it's not some mystery custom job. So, does anybody recognise it, or know what Peggy was playing around this time? It's a pretty murky clip but there are a couple of moments that clearly show the body shape and control layout at the 3 minute mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th80xJbWAIg
23.
Just wanted to check, is the wah this one: http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/105q-cry-baby-bass-wah
It is indeed! I'll amend the OP.
24. 4:17 is a sight to behold! And how great would it be to see Geddy use one of his Hofner violin basses in the set? That would be one for the 'it's all in the fingers' crowd... 😄
