I had a dream about one of these basses once. When I asked the guy in the shop to get it down for me it was an Aria SB1000, but was a Steinberger when he gave it to me. The sound was beyond anything I had ever imagined and I soon had a crowd of gasping admirers. Caused quite severe GAS for some time, let me tell you.

Mine is Heard It Through The Grapevine - played in the CCR style. So much room to play around with the bassline.

I played one last year and loved the feel - particularly the neck - but found the whole thing too dark for me. I often wonder about getting one and popping in a couple of those Bisonic reissues...

Does anyone else think the vocal mix was a little odd? It sounded like Geddy was going through an 'old-time radio' effect throughout, quite boxy and echoey.

[/quote] The same article states the Steinberger Spirit has a maple (I believe) body and neck, then goes on to marvel at how warm the instrument sounds considering it doesn't contain any wood... For all the sloppy errors, BGM is still far more entertaining than Bass Player, which is little more than an advertising pamphlet these days. And they've changes the shape too - I mean, [i]why[/i]?!

Another fan of Animals here! My favourite Floyd effort. It's strange, as much as I love DSOTM, Meddle, Animals, and The Wall, I [i]cannot stand [/i]Wish You Were Here.

I generally don't like extreme singlecuts (LP/Tele are ok) but that one really works - bravo!

Ours was a Columbus P bass copy, with flat strings and stupendously high action. I thought it was incredible. I remember the amp too - a 1x15 combo branded 'Cougar', who I have never heard of since. I remember most of the knobs and sliders didn't do much to the sound but I loved feeling the air moving when I turned it up.

Sensible answer - tort. I don't really like black on sunburst - well, not on a P anyway. Gold would look great too, like the ones they put on the 50s reissues - Then add the ashtrays and you will look as cool as Duck Dunn.
