1. Whereabouts in SE London are you mate? This is so bloody tempting... I used to frequent Chris' workshop back in the day and remember seeing this bass in it's damaged state... The quality of the repair job is incredibly good, I remember trying to buy it off him once he'd fixed it!
2. Bump. Forgot to add, the bass comes with a new Ritter Thunderbird gig bag.
3.
Tickets booked for Manchester (Anderson or not). Personally I'd rather listen to a sub who will hopefully be on form to JA croaking his was through some tough vocal numbers. Close to the Edge was the first LP I ever bought, so hopefully it will be a special evening,
FWIW, Jon is one of the few singers of that era whose voice hasn't deteriorated over the years. I've only seen Yes once but have seen Jon at his solo shows and his voice is still astounding.
4. Make me an offer Ash, it's your destiny...
5. As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought of the Hofner. I love mine too - it's a strange, fragile little thing (and looks utterly ridiculous on me) but it's just a joy to play. I wish I could leave all my basses out on stands, but an excitable two year old means they must stay locked away.
6. I was once recognised at the Download festival by someone who'd seen my band a few months previously. That was nice.
7. Some close-ups of the wear to the body edges. 8. After much soul-searching I've decided to put my old Greco Thunderbird up for sale. Not sure of the exact year but I believe it dates from the late 70s and is made in Japan. It's a very close replica of the classic, old-style Gibson Thunderbird and tonally is spot on - very big sounding bass but lots of clanky growl to go with it - very Wishbone Ash Differences - it has a slightly wider nut, so the neck feels more like a P bass than a real 'bird. It is a set neck rather than through neck. All hardware and electronics in full working order and it is structurally sound. It's been clearly been well loved and gigged well, the body edges show quite a lot of chips and dings - see pics. There's also the expected amount of general playing wear - the odd light knock here and there. Playability is not affected. The scratchplate is not the original. I'm looking for [s]£525[/s] [s]£500[/s] £470. Open to trade offers, particularly involving lightweight amps/cabs, and Yamaha BB basses, but hit me with what you've got! Collection preferred (I'm minutes away from J1 of M25), or can deliver/meet if not too far. Can also arrange courier at buyer's expense- a lovely brand-new Ritter gig bag is included. 9. For sale - my Ashdown LoMenzo Hyperdrive pedal. You know the score - stunning distortion pedal, very controllable and versatile. It's not the sound I'm hearing in my head so I've hardly used it. The pedal is in excellent condition - however the footswitch is a little temperamental, often taking a couple of goes to engage. Having owned other Ashdown pedals this always seems to be a weak point in their design but it's a very cheap and simple part to replace. Comes with the original box (slightly tatty) and paraphernalia. £50. Collection welcome - can post too, should be about a fiver I imagine. 10.
Just had a look . No doubt ardent Rush fans will snap this latest offering up , just like everything else they do , but to my sensibilities this business with adding a string section smacks of desperation to try and inject some novelty into procedings to try and sell a few more DVDs . The simple fact is that if you've seen them play Spirit Of Radio , you've seen them play Spirit Of Radio . The something really important missing from most of Rush's music for the last couple of decades , namely enough decent songs to make an album , and if I were them I would go away and have a serious think about whether it was really a fitting end to such a monumental band's career to become a prog rock cabaret show that does the circuit between sub-standard recordings . This is , after all , Rush . Could and should do better .
I don't know if you've heard CA but a lot of the songs feature the string section. Rush simply wanted to be able to play the songs live as they are on the record, not simply to 'inject some novelty'. It also gave them a chance to dig out a lot of older songs they haven't played in years - The Manhattan Project springs to mind. In fact the setlist for the CA tour is very different to the last few. Having followed Rush obsessively since the age of 14 I can honestly say with CA, and the CA tour, they have done considerably better than they have done in living memory.
11. Love it. Looks just like my Blazer, same colour and everything. Just with an extra pickup.
12. I love them, but like anything, they have to be done well. And it has to be on the right instrument too - i don't think any burst finish looks right on a Rick for example.
13. Out of the two mentioned - Precision all the way. But I generally always say that when given the option. Otherwise, the Epiphone Jack Casady has a very warm, natural sound that works very well with an acoustic guitar.
14.
I think the sb elite I is the same bass
This. Although I have a feeling someone will be along shortly to correct us...
15. I wonder if they'll make a Leeds version...
16. I now own Lozz's old LMT. It's a great little amp but the valve really does sod all. I find the amp sounds slightly warmer when the blend knob is between SS and valve, but then it evens out again when you turn fully to the valve side. It's not a huge deal for me as I use a Tech 21 to dirty things up, but I find it odd that Markbass went to all the effort of designing the amp to have a valve when it makes virtually no difference to the sound.
17.
Just to say, One of these slabs will be auctioned off at the WHO Convention in September for the Teenage Cancer Trust. It's a great cause and it would be great if we could all get behind it. http://www.thewhocon...on.com/auctions
I'm hoping to get along to that.
18.
Also, I hope they don't ruin it with a skinny, spindly Jazz neck. Keep it beefy!
Damn right.
