1. I personally prefer the feel of a down-tuned 4 string to a standard fiver. The extra rattle and growl suits me and can be amazingly aggressive if handled correctly. I generally find B strings wooly - except for that Spector Euro fiver I briefly owned.
2.
I tune A# D# G# C# I did use DR DDT's but they had a nasty habit of rapidly wearing out my frets!! I now use D' Addario's nickel plated round wounds. 135, 105, 85, 65. i don't suffer any fret wear with these mofo's! Depending on the severity of your desired tuning, you will more than likely have to adjust your neck and intonation.
You've tuned up to A#?! Lightweight!
3.
Have you tried ringing them, just maybe the web isn't set up to deal with this but they may?
I emailed the chap when the website didn't calculate the discount. Just for clarification, I was ordering several sets of Rotosound Swing bass but they weren't all the same, a couple were 50-110, a couple were 45-105. It meant I paid the price for two sets of two, rather than get the discount for 4 sets, if that makes sense. This is just a minor quibble and most of the time I would order the same sets anyway so I still use them.
4. I wish the discounts for multiple sets of strings still applied for sets of different gauges... Otherwise, excellent.
5. The opening to Hamburger Concerto derives from this little treat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAuqxEMRapg
6. Just for attending the bass show in a brown work coat (complete with biros in breast pocket), he commands my utmost respect and admiration.
7.
... But I personally think that Marillion lost any kudos and edge when Fish left. His solo material is so much more interesting than anything they have done since Season's End. I
Agreed. I was pretty much raised on early Marillion - One of my earliest memories is sitting in the back of the family 2CV, arriving at my nan and grandad's just as Punch and Judy was playing. Odd the things you remember. I'm not a huge fan of the whole 'Neoprog' thing but I still listen to Fugazi - great album and some stunning clank going on.
8. I think they are gorgeous, it's a shame they'e been discontinued. I always thought they looked right up my street but never saw one in the flesh (wood?) to try and didn't fancy spending the money blind considering I had no idea what the thing actually sounded like...
9. Nothing much to add really... I brought a tear to my eye seeing him get up and play at that Madness concert on Friday night, particularly when I had to explain to the Mrs why I was getting a bit 'emotional'. He looked so happy and carefree.
10. I look forward to hearing this... I was hoping for some Wetton/Bruford though
11. I think a lot of soapbar-style pickups house a split coil... EMG do one.
12. I was going to suggest an Ibanez SR300... but the Bass Collection you've gone for will tick all the same boxes. Pics!
13. Were you playing a different bass? The only time this has happened to me was when I played a Fender Geddy Lee or an old Rickenbacker 4001 - much slimmer necks to what I was used to at the time which resulted in cramp in my fretting hand.
14. Such a beautiful song, and a heartbreaking performance. Agreed, the Costello version doesn't come close.
15.
A friend of mine, he used my Rickenbacker bass on one of his albums. (Argus Through The Looking Glass) - Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash.
I saw them a few weeks ago, that album was for sale... Wish I'd bought a copy now, could have got it signed! I'm intrigued to hear Argus played on a Rick...
16.
Bit of a shot in the dark here, but I don't suppose anyone noted what the microhead was in use at the Cort Booth? I only noticed it in a photo on Facebook but I didn't recognise it...
There's more info on the other Show thread - in Off Topic I think. I can't be more helpful myself as I know the guys from Proel (Cort distributors) and have been sworn to secrecy. But it's all on here if you have a look.
17. Very sad. I love his playing on the first album.
18. I was offered a ticket for the Hammersmith gig on Friday but had to decline it as I've got a family 'do'... Seriously gutted.
19. If it powered Alien Ant Farm in any way, then it deserves to be destroyed with fire.
20.
around the fur. One of the all time best metal albums.
Agreed. I'm not a huge Deftones fan - Didn't like the debut at all and lost interest when that 'Back in School' vid was on TV all the time - but Around the Fur is absolutely monstrous. Perhaps I should give the new stuff a spin.
21. No, it wasn't Phil. For the record, I don't watch Jeremy Kyle, I've just 'seen it'.
