1. I think the Beatles output compositionally surpasses all the Motown output.
2. I can't see the link at work, but I know exactly who you're all talking about.
3. This would do better in the 'For Sale' section.
4.
I punched a knuckle off my right hand, once, in what was a truly regrettable injury. Not recommended.
More details needed!
5. I don't think it's an unnecessary thread. Some light-hearted bitching about poor service in Denmark St seems to be acceptable, so why can we not talk about the Gallery in a similar way? A lot of people on here love the Bass Gallery, and a lot of us have had appalling service, me included. The staff can attempt to justify their manner with customers all they like, but when I have my choice of amp and string met with snorts of derision by them (seriously), I can't help but take it personally.
6. Again, I have no tabs but amazing song and a superb bassline.
7.
Sounds about right. There's a video knocking around YouTube somewhere of one of his live solos from the late 80's, and it looks like he's literally been in the shower, bass an' all.
That would be the pure sweat of embarrassment.
8.
Not very impressive. I find Mark at Bass Direct very good. Huge range of gear and happy to let you try out as much as you like. He's also a big Dingwall fan.
Agreed. Mark and Bass Direct are everything the Bass Cellar should be.
9. I'll cheerfully never return there. I don't care how good the gear is. Such was the level of rudeness and technical ineptitude I was sure Jeremy Beadle was about to leap out in a fake beard. Alas he was long dead and I realised they were for real.
10. I've played this very bass. It's damned good. An excellent example of the breed.
11.
I have bought a number of basses from MMR (as we are calling him) and he is an excellent bloke to deal with. I have been to his home to pick up a bass and he is a thoroughly decent guy and only too happy to invite you round and show his collection of instruments. Classic and Cool is a very firm favourite on my browser. He currently has a lovely '73 sunburst fretless which is not on his site. I have suggested to him that he advertises via the affiliate page here as he has some wonderful instruments - currently a Zon bass which is so lovely even a dyed in the wool P-bass man like me wants it!! If he is selling something I would have no hesitation in recommending him. I'm just glad Limelight haven't done a late 60's sunburst P-bass with a rosewood board.
That Zon used to be mine! I sold it to Mark. I've traded with him many times, never had a problem. I like the look of his Limelight basses, and nearly went for one in a trade but eventually decided against as I would have been getting one on blind faith alone, which was too risky even for me.
12.
AFAIK Geezer rarely played that low though, songs like Children Of The Grave has the riff starting up on the A string while the guitar is open E (C# really).
Geezer would always match whatever tuning Iommi was in - so from Master of Reality to Sabotage he was tuned to C#, F#, B, E. It's not always obvious as a lot of the riffs would still be in E, only played higher up the neck.
13. The best cab I have ever had the pleasure of playing through was an old Mesa Boogie, part of the backline at a pub we used to regularly play. If my memory serves me correctly it had a 15", a 10" and a 6" - plus a horn. You could either run 2 amps into it, splitting the 15" from the others, or send one amp to all speakers. It was simply the best sound I have ever heard. I tried to contact the venue when I found out is was closing down but I was too late, it was already a Costa Coffee...
14. Hmmm... Tricky one. I think the style I have developed as a player can be most clearly traced from: The Who - Live at Leeds Black Sabbath - Master of Reality. In that, as hard as I try, I always find myself running about on little flights of fancy. Works well with one guitar player though, and I seem to have got away with it so far! There are countless other massive influences on my playing, but none so clearly apparent as these two.
15. Well that was fairly awful. Utterly unoriginal too - nothing I haven't heard 100 times already, and done with far more conviction. It sounded really lightweight too - not enough guitar. Zero effort, barrel -scraping.
16.
I have dropped the word MINT from the post. Satisfied ? I only wanted to post everything about the bass which a potential buyer should know. But basically it is - in my eyes - in MINT condition. ... Perhaps I should write showroom condition ? Anyway. I am not in a rhetoric workshop here... I think you all get the point from the description.
The rolly eyes was meant to show my light-heartedness. No offence meant!

19. I used to have the 4 string version of this, years ago. I really wish I hadn't sold it! These are excellent basses, and very underrated.
20.
I cant believe nobody has flagged this as a discussion point before. Class topic. I learned on a bass which was advertised in Kerrang magazine in the late 80s. I bought it around 1988/1989, the make was Axe. Any body suffer the same pain please let me know....! The ad in Kerrang was awful, bass being played by a huge bloke in a stage-esque setup - plugged into a battery amp 6 inches high with less power than a rooster fart. It was all I could afford at the time as I was working as a part time fish gutter ; and second choice as I wanted the Axe drumkit but my folks just said "not this side of eternity Ringo"; (it was probably crap as well). Looking back, bearing in mind I was literally just picking bass up from scratch - the sound was grim and never changed no matter what the tone control was set at, the bridge was held down by only four small screws (one in each corner) and when you brought it up to tune it came away from the body; I played out of tune as I learned on floppier strings than usual. The strap button on the top horn fell out after a month and got screwed back in to the back of the bass. I eventually stuck black insulating tape over the name on the headstock I was so embarrassed to be seen with it. I stopped short of wearing a brown bag over my head as I played it, but only because the drummer's kit was actually worse than my bass. I really wish I had a photo of my early garage days . . . .. . . . . .you would laugh your ass off. Especially at the night we were raided by the police following neighbours complaints; they just left after laughing at the singers bad Axl Rose copy of Welcome to the jungle. 1 - 0 to the NWOBHM My dad put me out of my misery after 12 months and picked me up from school and took me to the big guitar shop in the city and said pick one..... I got a gleaming frosted white Charvel/Jackson 4 string. Talk about parking a Robin reliant and driving away a Ferrari.
I used to lust after those Axe basses! Mind you, I was only about 7 at the time... Not a terrible bass by any means, but the worst bass I have ever owned was my Epiphone Thunderbird - lightweight and flimsy, lifeless tone. The neck was nice though.
21. I have 2 of the NEO 2x10s. Not a bad word to say about them. They are stackable in a few different arrangements too - I generally have them stacked upright, a vertical 4x10. They sound great with every amp I've used them with, and of course they work excellently with GK heads!
22. Looks a bit odd to me... Like the neck has been set too far into the body.
