1. I've only owned this beauty for a few months and I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm really a passive kind of chap after all. So I thought I would put it on here and see what happens. The bass in question is a Spector Euro 4, in excellent condition bar a few extremely minor marks to the body, two on the back and a couple around the lower edge of the body*. I've always lusted after one of these basses, being a bit of an Eddie Jackson/Rex Brown fan, and this one has 'the' Spector trademark tone in spades - I call it sledgehammer growl. It can do a lot more than this of course, but it's calling card is this wonderfully aggressive raunchy sound, all courtesy of the Tonepump circuit. But as I say, I'm really more into the passive, dirty old school sound so the poor Spector is just sitting about getting lonely. Oh, just remembered - the original owner decided to relocate the lower strap button to the centre of the body for some unknown reason. THe person I bought it from had it restored to the original position and filled the hole - even matched the colour. This is only really noticable if you look for it - I took a picture so see for yourselves. Well I think that's about it... I'm looking for about £650 but am open to offers. Collection preferable but could arrange a courier for about £15. And please feel free to ask any questions, I'm always open. 2. The Gallery's response was a bit shocking.
3.
Pictures please!!!
They're coming, fear not. Just waiting for a bit of sunshine. It looks just like the one in your profile pic.
4. If I were anywhere near Bristol I would buy it purely for the 'custom' finish.
5.
. I am definately not bored of how she looks or plays, it is quite simply the greatest bass I have ever played and the fact it was The Ox's is a huge thrill every time I pick her up.
I think you should hang on to it. There are few basses that can be considered utterly unique and irreplacable, and you've got one there.
6. I've always pronounced it 'basswood', as in bass, but it could just as easily be 'basswood'.
7.
Thanks guys. I have a look into hireing the VT pedel and go from there. The studio is in the middle of no were so there arnt any near by that have that kind of gear. Thanks for the help amigos!
Where will you be recording? I might know it if it's nearby.
8. Ahoy to a local chap! I don't have an SVT but I do have a Line6 studio 75 that does a damn good impersonation...
9. As a fan of Pitchshifter 'back in the day' when they seemed to be everyone's support act and opener at every festival, all I can say is this - that is ridiculously cool.
10. Just bought an EHX Bassballs from Mel. It arrived the day after payment, excellently packed and just as described. Got a good deal on it too! I wouldn't hesitate to deal with Mel again, top marks all round.
11. I've got the 35w version, ridiculously loud, however there is hardly any treble to be found in it! I have the treble knob on mine fully cranked and there's still hardly any top end. Still, it's serving a purpose as the lower half of a Rick-O-Sound setup, where all it really needs to do is go 'boom'.
12. These were great basses! Remind me of my metal youth.
13. That is beyond gorgeous, my favourite Spector finish. Loving the avatar. Easy to see why the 'birds' found him so irresistable.
14.
Best phone. Talk to Jeff, its funniest.
+1. They built me a couple of 4x12s a few years back to match an old Marshall Superbass I had. Jeff's pretty hilarious, has a tendency to drift off mid sentence though! Sound as a pound
15.
Hi. Has anyone here ever placed an order with Fender, via their custom shop, for a bass to their own specification? I'm thinking of ordering a Precision bass to my own exact spec - black, 4-string, maple fingerboard, medium relic, overwound passive p-bass pickup, brass hardware, black pickguard, neck between P bass and J bass. Cost won't be an issue - but I'd like to know if anyone has done this before, what did it cost, time from order to delivery and your general impression of the experience. ....... and did the bass end up being what you wanted?
Considering how close that is to a standard bass, plus a few minor alterations, you would be paying hideously over the top for the Custom shop to make you one. You could get a new Roger Waters sig and upgrade the hardware and electronics. Maybe get a luthier to slim the neck?
16. I know a guy who works there, he posted a job vacancy ad for them, if only it wasn't in bloody Epsom!! Pretty much my dream job right there.
17.
Thanks again nottswarick. I use a Fender custom shop NOS 1964 limited edition Jazz bass
There's no reason you couldn't get a wonderful sound with that bass and your Ashdown. When they were being designed, the Fender Jazz was used as the test bass throughout, so it's really as if the amp was designed to make that bass sound great. One question though - what strings do you use? If the jazz has decade-old flats on it's going to sound pretty indistinct from the off... Also, my hint for the Ashdown heads - I always found them to sound best with the shape preset off- which, weirdly, has the switch pressed in. A little bit illogical if you ask me. When I first got the head I did a whole tour with the shape EQ engaged, all the while believing that it was off. Should have just trusted my ears I suppose.
18. Link doesn't work anymore so I'm guessing it's been pulled.
19.
Bass cellar, perchance?
Congratulations! Now, simply send me your address and your FREE peanut will be on the way to you! Bloody villain that man was. Reprehensible liar. Still, I'm glad your bass doesn't suffer form that unfortunate issue! I remember it was a wonderful, grunting beast. Don't know if you're familiar with the band 3 Colours Red, but their album 'Revolt' was recorded with the 4 string variety, and it sounds excellent, a big influence on me buying one. If I ever see a 4 string version for sale I'll be straight on it!
20. The reason I play bass. Can't believe it's been 9 years. I still have the newspapers from the day at home. I'm going to drink some Remy Martin from a cycle flask in his honour tonight.
