1.
You can't replicate the sound of an 8 string with an octave. I bought a Pog for exactly that but it sounded shrill and terrible.
I borrowed a friend's Micro Pog when recording our last album, I was so impressed with the sound I would happily use one instead of the 'real thing'. Close enough for rock and roll!
2. I seem to have buggered up the first post and deleted the pics - here they are again.
3. Bass now back up for sale! £350 including postage - or make me an offer!
4. I liked mine, but the 'waffer-theen' neck gave my hand cramp.
5. Just got two free tickets to the O2 show! Right at the back though, and with a warning that the seats are not suitable for those afraid of heights... Still, free!
6.
However, his £30 deposit was trumped buy a large cash payment by the Elbow boys.
That's disgraceful.
7.
I dont really understand why I am lusting after this, Ive had two ricks in the past, but couldnt get on with them. However, in this colour,I think this is got to be one of the most attractive basses around.
My predicament entirely.
8.
the have gone up in price over the last 12months tho and a new one will set you back about 500quid. Trev.
You do get a nice Burns hardcase with them these days though I nearly bought one a few months back, but was dismayed to find the black ones had a white scratchplate and gold hardware - as well as different pickups. I contacted Burns and they said there was a balls up at the Chinese factory and they had been given the pickups from the more expensive Bison 'Shadows' model. They assured me the stock would be back to normal around February but this still doesn't seem to be the case.
9. The guy from Goblin was playing one of these when I saw them a couple of years back - best bass sound I have ever heard. If only I had the cash!
10. If it's one of the recent ones (and if it's the one that's usually on Ebay, it is) that price is lower than when they were first released. Still don't think it's worth that much though, otherwise I would have snapped it up ages ago!
11.
Ride the lightening and Master of Puppets have lots of clean cliff! Just its pretty hard to hear at times. For whom the bell tolls (after the iconic bass distortion intro!) and Orion i think are too best places to hear his clean tones (and yes probably his two most famous distortion sections are in those tracks too!)
Fair point. But if you listen to the isolated tracks on Youtube, the RTL stuff is still pretty distorted. The MoP isolated bass tracks (with the exception of the incredible Orion solo) sound pretty bad IMHO, and make it clear why he's pretty buried on that album. He plays this crazy angular line in the chorus of Master that's all but inaudible in the album mix - even knowing it's there it's hard to pick out. And yes, the quiet section of Orion is clean bass, but that tone could just as well be DI - what I mean is, there's no distinct amp characteristic being heard.
12.
You're probably right, but an all valve amp or valve hybrid is probably going to help more in getting that tone without the need for masses of pedals and effects, which can cost a small fortune in of themselves!
My point was the Cliff tone everyone always goes on about was not so much his amp sound, but his heavily distorted wah sound, which is quite easy to achieve with a couple of pedals. Once you have those the amp doesn't really factor into it. I think th only time you ever really heard Cliff 'clean' was on Kill 'Em all, and that sounds like a very dry DI sound to me. Not trying to bash Cliff in any way here, I love his playing and sound, I just don't think the amp plays too much of a part in recreating that tone.
13. More pics - plus one of the slight knocks to the end of the headstock.
14. Aria Pro II Elite I for sale, of mid 80s vintage. Superb condition for it's age, a few very minor varnish chips and knocks too minor to pick up with my camera. Also some light tarnishing to the bridge and machine heads. Nothing which can affect playability. All electronics and hardware in full working order. I thought this was a keeper, but true to form something else has tickled my fancy, so she must go. Feel free to ask any questions! Collection preferred but could probably arrange something else if needed. I'm after £350.
15. More pics.
16. Here we have a smashing mid-70s Japanese Rickenbacker 4001 copy, a true lawsuit copy if ever there was one. It really is an almost exact copy of the real thing, and even has neck-through construction - a lot of the copies from this era were bolt-on. In fact, the only detail that lets it down a bit are the generic no-name tuners (that otherwise function fine). The construction and electronics on this bass are all sound - the chap I bought it from had the electronics and wiring given a professional once-over before it reached me. Having owned a genuine 4001 I would go as far as saying this one is easier to play, and it nails the sound too. For a bass of this vintage it is in excellent condition - there are some nicks and dings around the bottom edge of the body, and a few very light lacquer chips - but nothing to affect playability. Any questions feel free to ask. I am after £350 inc. postage.
17. I quite like it, but it would be ten times better if it had authentic pickups on it, i.e. not modern Tbird pickups hidden under the old-style covers. Also, you know the price is going to be comical.
18. Bump for a beautiful bass.
