I loved the first song, the rest were a bit 'smooth' for me.

SOLD: BC Rich Mockingbird Heritage Bass (thru-neck) £235 ono
Cosmo Valdemar replied to robocorpse's topic in Basses For Sale
To be fair, it has 2 very nasty bashes on it, one on the bottom point near the controls thats down to wood. Photo link in original post leads to good closeups of the dinks. I think I have priced it VERY fairly though. It plays really nicely despite the usual BCRich neck angle issues, and if I had more time, I would do the bridge rout mod and get it absolutely gnats-wing on the 12th fret First offer of 220 takes it, it's not actually THAT metal, it has the metal shape, but the trans finish and curly maple just oozes class...
Oh yeah. Didn't look at the old thread. Still a bargain. -
It's all about how you hit the open E.

I think I have seen the greatest bass in the world!
Cosmo Valdemar replied to merello's topic in Bass Guitars
The great thing about lots of JE's basses is that they look like the sort I used to draw on the back of my school books when I was a kid. -
"I know this guitard, his guitars are high output so they push his amps harder. I can't imagine him turning down. He's gone deaf now, so his tone's rubbish." Doesn't that sound good?
That sounds dangerously close to Entwistle bashing, we don't take kindly to that round these parts... -
I have a Spector Euro up for sale... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=spector It's a 4 string but works great strung BEAD, the previous owner had it strung like that. PM me if interested, I need it gone thanks to a considerable bill (ahem*Rickenbacker*) so could do you a great price...
I've just been reading that page, when one of the stupidest things I've seen in a while jumped out at me: "The bass was so loud on stage The Who and their road crew used to vacate my side of the stage whenever I played it." A. It's the amp, not the bass, John. B. Turn it down a bit, John. If that had come from a guitarist, I know what I'd be calling him...
John's quote was perfectly reasonable if you ask me. His Alembic basses were known for their high output, which would have pushed his amps a lot harder. And seriously, can you imagine JE turning down on stage? That's why he went deaf later on and ended up with that 'interesting' tone he got with the Status... -
Wow, that's my old Mockingbird. What the f*ck has happened to it? Looks like someone used it to clean out a scrap yard
Looks pristine to me. I used to have one of these, excellent basses and unique growly sound. You can see why Entwistle was so enamoured of that pickup arrangement! -
Only mobile phone camera, piss poor lighting & nothing else special but I love the red on black contrast of this
What bass does that belong to?

Colour? Orange - check! Neck? Fender Jazz - check! Body? Explorer! - check!
I can't watch the clip at work but if it's the bass I'm thinking of, surely it's a Precision neck? JE found the Jazz ones too thin at the nut. -

Fender Geddy Lee Jazz bass- your thoughts please
Cosmo Valdemar replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
I had one for a while, never really been a J man though so sold it. Also, beware of the skinny neck, my hand just didn't agree with it and I'd get cramp after about 10 minutes of serious playing. Didn't like the Badass either. Nice sound though. -
Rickenbacker 4003 - setup advice needed
Martin Sims - http://www.simscustom.com Based near Bethersden, about 10 minutes outside of Ashford. I used to have 2 Rics (both gone now), but he set up both excellently last year. At the time I went in, he was doing some work with a chap's Ric that he'd couriered from the US for Martin's services. Tell him Iain from Tenterden with the Rickenbackers sent you!
That's good enough for me. I'll send them an email now! Cheers. -
Rickenbacker 4003 - setup advice needed
Cosmo Valdemar replied to Cosmo Valdemar's topic in General Discussion
Take it to the Gallery in Camden. It's not that far.
I've had a couple of basses setup by them over the years, including an old 4001. Contrary to general opinion I have never really had good service from them (in fact I find them unhelpful and unfriendly) so I won't be returning in a hurry. Thanks for the suggestion though. -

Can anybody recommend a good tech in the SE London / Kent area who has experience of setting up Rickenbacker basses? I've read too many horror stories about exploding necks and things so I would like to take mine to someone I can trust.
Needless to say my eventual party trick was the opening piano part of "Awaken" by YES. (i think it was Awaken - long time ago now ?) That took a lot of practice and many hours speeding up the process.
That I would like to hear!

Early '90's MIJ Squier P vs MIJ Ibanez Blazer
Cosmo Valdemar replied to solo4652's topic in Bass Guitars
If the Blazer's in good nick, it will probably be the finest P-style bass you will ever own! I picked one up for £200 a couple of years back and it soon became my number one. Even the ultra-sarcastic tech/luthier I go too was impressed (Aside from a little giveaway on the fretwork of it's budget origins). Gutsy, growly tone- a bit more balls than the usual Precision tone. Probably down to the DiMarzio pickup and heavy brass bridge. No contest between this and the Squier IMHO.
