  4. @bassfan Had a bit of time before classes started this morning so was able to knock something up quite quickly. Please excuse the sloppiness! It was quite a quick process. So, no processing, just as it comes out of the bass - no EQ, just added a smidge of compression to even out my sloppiness! Anyway, I hope it helps... 1 - Neck pup, flat EQ, active mode 2 - Both pups, flat EQ, active mode 3 - Bridge pup, flat EQ, active mode 4 - Both pups, tone on full (more treble) in passive mode 5 - Both pups, tone wound back (dark and woolly) in passive mode 6 - Bridge pup, tone of full (a la Jaco kinda sound) in passive mode 7 - A bot of slap, both pups, flat EQ in active mode. It has quite a range of tones, obviously I couldn't cover everything in but hopefully it gives you a good idea. The Glock is a lovely transparent sound when flat, really allows the sound of the bass to come out. Being a cut and boost EQ (unlike the Sadowsky you have), it does give it a bit more versatility in my book and I kinda miss that when I play my metro express which has the VTC circuit in it.   5. I think the glock pre is a different sound to the sadowsky… I have a metro express with the vtc preamp in there and there is (to me) a significant different in tone… I will see what I can do today and pop a reply on here…
  6. To be honest mate, I doubt very much! Same pups, the GLOCKENKLANG pre is very transparent and has the benefit of a switchable passive tone (the original pre didn’t have this..) I can do some sound clips tomorrow if you would like to hear some… to be honest, it sounds like a classic jazz in passive mode and a jazz with some extra phunk in active mode. Let me know what you think and if you would like to hear it, I could do some tomorrow. Carl.
  7. Up for sale is my gorgeous Atelier Z DAL 5 in natural finish with clear scratch plate and bell cover (the preamp is not attached to the clear bell cover so can be removed). Something has come up that has made me go into bass buying convulsions so to make up some of the shortfall, this has to go... plus the bass I'm after is similar in looks and style so I don't need two similar basses. If the bass I'm after goes I will be withdrawing this from sale. This is in amazing condition, no noticeable dings or marks and the neck is lovely - it's amazing to play and sounds great. When I got it it was a standard preamp with volume, blend, bass and treble. I have always liked a passive option so I upgraded the preamp to the Glockenklang 2 band preamp with passive tone control on the treble pot - this one: https://www.glockenklang.de/en/products/bass_systems/onboard_2-band.htm From the website: The GLOCKENKLANG 2-band onboard preamp is active/passive switchable (at the volume push/pull), has a balance-pot with no volume dip in center-position, a treble-pot with +/- 18 dB@18 KHz in active mode, acting as classical highcut in passive mode and a bass-pot with +/- 14 dB@40 Hz. Battery-connection is 9 / 18 volts. Due to the high performance electronic, in flat position of the eq you can hear no difference between active and passive mode! Comes with the Atelier branded soft case (between a gig bag and hard case) and I have also added Sadowsky style knobs as I thought they look a lot better than the Jazz style knobs. I will include the original knobs and pup cover in the sale. I don't have the old preamp I'm afraid. I know these come with an Atelier Z sticker on the scratch plate - I sourced a replacement from Danny at Bass Japan Direct which I will of course include as well. No trades I'm afraid as I need the cash for the new bass, I have a box and can organise postage with costs covered by the buyer. Will need insurance as I won't send it without. Will probably be £30-£40 to post. Will get some quotes on postage if there looks to be a sale. Hit me with any questions! I got this from Bass Direct and have included their original pictures.

Not off the top of my head - I would say it is neither lightweight nor heavy... a typical 9 / 9.5lb bass... it's definitely heavier than my Stingray Special that I had recently, but not as heavy as an older SR5 I had which was a heavy old beast... if you are keen, I do have some scales at work I could use to get a more accurate weight...

I'm not sure if this is accurate? Is there an easy way to measure and check?
  11. Lovely Sterling Musicman Ray35 in very good condition. Beautiful quilted top and roasted maple neck. Has been gigged and has minor signs of use - the worst of which are two minor dinks on the back (pictured). Comes with its original padded gig bag. The roasted maple neck feels great and to be honest, I sold a stingray special a while back and I would be hard pressed to tell any massive differences! Certainly not £1ks worth when you look at second hand values. I'm sure I will start a barrage of Stingray lovers spewing some hate here, but that's my opinion! frankly, a while back I was firmly in their camp... now, I'm not so sure of the value of premium basses like Stingrays when you compare them to their far eastern counterparts. I think the quality of these far east instruments has sky rocketed over the years. I got this a while back on here and to be honest, I'm not using it very much and a new kitchen and home extension means I need to recoup some funds. Its a great bass, I just find myself picking up my Sadowsky and nowt else gets a look in! Currently sporting a clear scratch plate, which I had made as it shows off the lovely top, plus the control PCB on display looks pretty cool as well. I have included a picture of it with the original black one which I will include in the sale so the buyer can make up their own mind. Will included postage in the asking price, any haggling will incur postage costs, collection obviously welcome! Any questions, please do get in touch!
  12. I have found quite a bit of variation between units... I have a fretted 5 and a fretless five and the scratchplate from one didn't fit the other! I recently changed my metro express pre to the sadowsky dropin version with VTC and that fitted but I had to drill new holes and i didn't meet the scatchplate either. I can live with that for the sound benefits though! Strange considering these would be mass produced and generally, consistency of parts fitting is pretty good... I wondered if mine were from different batches...???
  13. Sadowsky Preamp with knobs and bell plate for sale. Taken out of my metro express as I wanted to upgrade to the VTC (the only real difference I believe). I had some issues with this recently, drop outs and the such, which I managed to trace back to some loose connections on the end pot (bass or treble - can't remember which!) The white cover over the pins was holding it in place (why it was intermittent) and no amount of solder reflowing seemed to cure the problem. So I trimmed the cables back and soldered onto the pot some new micro pins and rejoined the cables - I have tried to show the joins in the pics. I did this a couple of weeks ago and it has been fine since. I plugged it in again today to check and it was fine and dandy. I back ordered the VTC drop in kit a while back and it arrived today so this is up for grabs. I am selling this as it is but would of course accept returns if there are problems when installed. it isn't a professional solder job but it's solid and should be fine for the next owner. All pins and joins were covered in heat shrink as you will see by the pictures. No issues with noise in this one as it was one of the later metro express models. I have shielded the rear of the bell plate as I like doing it and tend to fiddle around with things. You could even buy the VTC kit to add to this which replaces the bass and treble pot with the passive tone and stacked T&B. Includes the Sadowsky style knobs, bell plate and jack socket. You can literally drop this in, solder in your pups and away you go. The new drop in kit took me 15 mins to install. £60 plus postage - a fiver will cover it insured.
  14. I remember this bass well, I got it from @bubinga5 and was ‘on it like a car bonnet’ as soon as I saw it for sale. I always hankered after a ‘super jazz’ as I love a jazz bass but passive ones always seem a bit ‘meh’ to me… unless your talking a ‘76 in natural finish with mojo and the 70s logo… anyway… it served me very well and to be honest, I only sold it due to financial issues I was facing at the time. It is an amazing player, and certainly no throwaway, stick it in the corner type of bass… when I saw this come up for sale I was quite tempted but have fallen into the Atelier Z web and am loving my current DAL5 that is one of go to’s at the mo… @tauzero it will certainly serve you well ( the Barts x-axis pups were in there when I got it and I put the John east uni pre in there… not sure if that is what it is still sporting though… it’s an excellent bass for modding and experimenting with configs… a great bass and a looker! Enjoy!

Thanks for all your helpful comments guys - I have decided not to keep the b3 (70cdr has already been sold) and am going to look at individual pedals I think… it seems to be the unanimous vote that multi fx units are good for certain things but will always lack somewhere… I think I will investigate the specialist synth stuff (SY1 etc.) and go from there… cheers everyone!

  17. Try and find someone with a laser cutter! Makes for a much nicer edge and finish. Scan in your old scratchplate, create a vector image and boom! Perfect every time!
  18. Add a bit of heat to the fret before you do it, helps to loosen any glue that may have been used. Also, make sure you use some flat edge end cutters... tease them out very slowly and carefully and you will minimise your tear out. You will probably get some, however minimal. When you sand, save the dust and feed it into any missing bits and add some CA glue. Will help to disguise any tears in the wood. If you can, keep the tears there and glue them back down. IMO, makes for a much neater job.
  19. Hi everyone… I’m quite a seasoned player, 25 plus years of function gigs, theatre stuff and reading and it is only recent that I have started using fx. I love synths and do a lot of production work on synths for someone who runs a audio production company - new gigs means I need to produce a cool 80s synth bass sound and not being a live keys player, I’m trying to achieve that on bass. so, I start researching and found this: a great sound… I notice it’s listed as produced on a B3. So I do a bit reading and find out that an Zoom Cdr70 can do it… so I buy one and struggle to get anywhere near this. so I buy a B3… and still I struggle. I understand synthesis in detail. But I cannot get anywhere near this sound. tracking doesn’t seem to work well when I play, is it a gain thing? im running the b3 on the fx loop of my Radial bassbone. Has anyone with a B3 been able to get near this sound? if so… what are the settings? I quite like the rest of it but I really want a decent synth bass. Is there a technique thing I need to embrace? I get it is going to be more monophonic, but I just can’t get anywhere near this. can anyone help? Or offer some advice as to what I should be looking at? I’m trying not to spend loads of dosh but, if needs must! having said that… if a b3 is used in this video, what am I doing wrong? i have messaged the person in the video but had no reply… any advice is most welcome. I have listed the 70cdr and B3 for sale in the classified due to frustration, but would definitely keep one if I can get there with this! cheers in advance for any help… carl.
  20. Yeah I’m quite surprised someone hasn’t jumped on this, considering the functionality it offers for £80… to be honest I bought it on a whim but with the Radial bassbone I have and the 70cdr, it’s a bit redundant…. I guess I was just curious if it would offer me something extra…
  21. Zoom B3 in VGC, boxed with non standard PSU and box. I will include a volume pedal in the price to use with the B3 for expression. In the desktop software it can be assigned to different controls. Knock off £5 if you don’t need the volume pedal. I picked this up recently to try out as I already have an MS-60B and wasn’t sure if I would prefer the B3 but I think I am going to stick with the 60B just for a bit of Chorus and octave… I already have a Bassbone as a front end so I don’t need all the amp sims etc. It’s in perfect working order, a couple of marks on the rear panel, that’s it. the PSU isn’t a zoom one but does work fine with the unit. postage is fine, should be about £7.50 to post via Royal Mail tracked and insured next day delivery.
