  1. Some interest but nothing so this is very much available. A few questions I should have included in the description: Weight - a smidge over 9lb (this was calculated using bathroom scales so not 100% accurate) - it feels very similar to my Sei Jazz which is a shade under 9lb... I have included pics of the bridge spacing - 19mm and some enquired about pickup size so I have added those pics as well. Cheers!
  2. I have acquired a Precision highway 1... the body has a nice patina after 12 years but the neck has hardly been used (previous owner used a lakland neck on the bass...) I want to try and 'vintage' the neck up a bit... any advice? It's a rosewood board so I will just be doing the maple... it's just so pale... i don't mind a bit of work and it isn't my main bass... so! Tru Oil?? will it give me a vintage amber look? or do I need something else? I just want a tint of age, not full scale relic so don't want to go crazy. Will I have to remove the decal or can a work over it? Any advice would be much appreciated! Carl

There's a good reason for never letting two year olds play with matches.

Is it like a psychic connection, so if she farts at home but you’re down the shops you suddenly involuntarily laugh?

When she's old enough she might learn how to possess them like Abe in Oddworld...

  6. Sorted! Thanks @Reggaebass
  7. How do I add status updates? I found a thread where someone mentioned you have to activate in your profile but I cannot seem to find anything in mine... Anyone?
  8. Any interest? - really looking for a trade - SR5 possibly with some cash or something interesting 34" scale of similar nature and value...
  9. No idea at the mo... I'm waiting for a new scratch plate so will have a look then...
  10. Can you change the pup covers on the basslines?? I'm intrigued to a black guard cream pup combo...
  11. Hi all.... My first proper bass when I was 17 was a fender MIM 57 reissue p bass (had various cheap alternatives before that) and I always remember it... I love the 70s p-bass look and to hark back to a simpler time I have picked up a US made highway one in sunburst. Anyway... I want to improve it and am after suggestions! Being as sunburst with a rosewood board, it has a cream guard but I'm going to change it for a 3 ply black one... Bridge - do I go standard American or leave the badass II on there? Pups? With a black guard on burst - cream pups? I like the idea but anyone else got that combo? Or do I stay with black? Any recommendations for pups? It has the bass lines pups in there and I have really tried it yet, not even sure what kind of sound I want! Just a p-bass sound I guess! I am capable with electronics... Do I worry about pots etc? Anyone made significant improvements on a highway 1 wiring wise? Just wanted to know opinions really? The body is nicely scarred and has a nice patina already... I would like the neck to look a bit more vintage as well - it's a bit too fresh! Any thoughts? Anyway... Pictures are welcome.... Especially the burst - black guard - cream pup combo of anyone has one!! Opinions are welcome! ATB Carl
  12. I'm putting up for sale this gorgeous GB Spitfire 5 String. I picked this up in a trade recently as I didn't get on with my 35" scale Lakland and it confirms it for me, I have been playing 34" scale for such a long time that I find the transition uncomfortable and therefore I won't play it. Not only that, for some reason I seem to have entered a real vintage phase... who knows where that will take me. From what I understand, this has some history on Basschat. The person i got it from got it from here so I know it has had at least 2 previous owners on here. It does have a few knocks and dinks but Pete who owned it before me, sent it to Bernie and had the neck completely refinished, the electronics serviced and updated plus a general overhaul. I believe he spent just over the £300 having this done. So, the neck is immaculate. Pretty much as new. The body does have some dinks and marks and I have tried to photograph them, but to be honest with the natural, lacquered finish they certainly aren't obvious. It's a great player and an amazingly built bass. Top sound capabilities, very versatile and like many basses of this ilk, modern sounding. Having said that, I did manage a cracking precision type sound the other day. Typical GB build with Bernie's electronics and pickups. It has the battery indicator which is really useful. Quilted maple top, the birds eye on the neck and fingerboard is absolutely gorgeous and with the refinish, it really looks special. If I was keeping it I would look at having the body refinished... it would look like new and I had quotes between 200-300£ to have this done. At this point it would be worth a lot more in my eyes. Priced on Bernie's website, it would, in Pete's words, "be the thick end of 3 grand" so feel free to have a look on his website. Feel free to ask any questions and I will answer them as best as I can. I haven't owned it long and a P bass is on it's way to me soon so it does have to go - damn GAS! Case wise, I don't have the official case but currently it is in my GruvGear Sliver gig bag. A deal could be arranged to include that (it is a pricey bag), you could post an empty case or I can try and find something locally to send it in. Postage should be around £30 fully insured. I'm happy to consider trades (34" basses please) and have no real idea what I would consider so feel free to throw ideas at me. I would definitely consider something funky colour wise (no Jazz basses though - I have a Sei which covers that) although something with a P or Jazz pup at the neck with a MM at the bridge could be good. I do love a Stingray... 4 or 5 string... who knows! Obviously a cash sale is also great! I would also be up for a partial trade with cash as well...
  13. Hi everyone... I have just aquired a rather tasty GB Spitfire 5 string... It is about 10 years old and has a large number of battle scars on the body, quilted top, natural laquered finish. Some belt buckle has worn away the laquer in places and whilst it doesn't show up that much because of the natural finish, I am considering a refinish. The neck was recently done by Bernie and it was a cracking job, but I do have a hankering for a funky solid colour at the mo. I have a Sei which has a gorgeous natural finish so I am set there. Basically, anyone have any idea of the cost of a body refinish? Solid colour? Or possibly a laquer refinish? It's a lovely quilted top but I really want a solid funky colour... Any recommendations for a colour to match a lovely birds eye maple neck and fingerboard? Any recommendations as to specialists who refinish guitars? I could attempt it myself, I have done small paint jobs on cars but I would rather spend the money to get a flawless finish. Happy to do the strip down and prep work myself if it helps... I have added a pic of the bass if anyone has any ideas for colour... How much could I get away with doing a wet and dry flatten on the laquer and then buff up? I do have a machine polisher...
  14. I have tried to capture the pearleasant in the paint... Not easy!!
  15. Moving on my Lakland 55-02 in Pearl White. This is a 2018 model, but pretty much as new. I'm just not getting on with the 35" scale and the neck isn't as slim as my Sei so it just isn't getting played. Time for it to go to a better home! Tonally so versatile, especially with the MM/J combo and various coil options, it annoys me that it just doesn't 'fit' me. 😣 The pearly white paint looks great and definitely has a shimmer which doesn't come across in the pics - (credit BD). I will add some more tomorrow when I get a few mins and will try to capture this. It really does look great. Anyway, I bought this from Bass Direct in December (have proof if needed) - aiming just to reclaim what I paid. As a sweetener, I may be tempted to chuck in my GruvGear sliver gig bag for the right deal... otherwise I will source a gig bag for transit. I can post - will be around £25, will be boxed and in a gig bag as I mentioned. Trades are welcome, same value or I could be tempted to add some cash for the right deal. Jazz type 5s are welcome, as are most things for consideration. Spec's: Lightweight Swamp Ash body Maple neck Maple f/b - 35" scale Pearl White Lakland pickups active 3 band eq Weight: 4.5kg (from what I could muster!) A Lakland Quad Coil hum bucker (bridge) and a dual-coil (neck) are teamed with the same 3-band active Lakland LH3 preamp used in the US-made 55-94 to let you dial in an incredible range of tones. 3-way toggle splits bridge pickup coils for increased tonal range. It has that deep Lakland cutaway on the high register side of the neck that allows easy access to highest frets for throwing licks on top of your grooves. Lakland Skyline luthiers now do their fret work using Plek technology to assure optimum playability. Plek is a CAD/CAM machine with scanning capability. It was developed to perform high-speed, highly accurate fret dressing, nut and bridge slotting and shaping, and engraving work. When used by an experienced luthier, the Plek machine produces necks with fretwork and action that equal the very best handwork and does it consistently.
