  1. They had a decent selection last time I was in there.
  2. PMT? HotRox in Nottingham? RichTone in Sheffield? Other?
  3. https://www.musicradar.com/news/fender-fined-pound45-million-for-preventing-guitar-price-discounts-online Interesting read.
  4. TC PolyTune Clip or TC UniTune Clip. Much prefer the UniTune for Bass to the Poly, but I believe they are now discontinued.
  5. Managed to figure that one out on the HD500x. Use a second amp, set one up as clean, one up as dirty and then use the channel volume to blend.
  6. Now that sounds interesting.
  7. I've yet to see the full list of amp & cab models on this one. It will be interesting to see if there are any "dedicated" bass models on the standard model set.
  8. GLWTS. It is an '84. I had one in the late 80's 'til I stupidly sold it in the early 90's. One of the few basses I regret selling. From my research, they only appear to have been made between '83 & '84 as one of the "entry" SB models. Saw this on FB last night. 👍
  9. I would check the pickup height first before anything, simply raising the pickup may well give you the kind of sound you're after. If you want specific measurements, I'd say that you should have the treble side at around 2-3mm below the strings, and the bass side around 3-4mm below. Also think about what strings you're using, I prefer stainless steel rounds, but it can get expensive trying different strings. Still cheaper than trying different pickups & getting your bass set up properly again.
  10. You could look at something like the Hotone ThunderBass or something similar, but they'll still need a cab (not sure if you can just use it with headphones). The last guitar amp I had used some clever switching to use different configurations of valves to get different power levels. Even on it's lowest setting, it was still a bit too loud for quiet practice. Always had my trusty old PODxt there for later evening use.
  11. Attenuators are all well and good if you want to get a decent sound out of a valve amp, but at lower volumes, however, you still have to have enough signal coming through to the speaker in order to make the speaker work efficiently, and not "fart out" (not enough signal getting through to get a decent sound). Even with an attenuator, 9 times out of 10, a valve amp will unfortunately still be too loud to use at home and retain a decent sound (unless of course, you are after a totally clean sound, or just using it for very quiet practice). I've been through a few with various guitar amps, the best one I had was a THD HotPlate paired to a 50w JCM800 2x12 combo. It was great for rehearsing, but just that bit too loud for use at home. A small solid state amp is possibly the best way to go, or a headphone amp/amp modeller.
  12. TBH, it sounds more like you need to have a band meeting to figure out where the band is going in the future, and whether it's worthwhile trying to rebuild the enthusiasm for it, rather than spending more money on something that sounds like you'll never see anything back from. If it's worth saving, then maybe get the tracks released & get gigging again. If not, shake hands & walk away.
  13. Looks promising, would like to see the specs and amp/cab/effects models list and whether it's an HX or Legacy model. Are they finally getting around to making an HD500x replacement??? About time.
  14. Saw that on FB as well. Gorgeous looking bass. Quite tempting, but finances say no. GLWTS.
  15. Geddy at least admits that he's a Squire disciple. And Ox, and Jack Casady...
  16. I noticed when I was looking through the For Sale section earlier, that most of the instruments on the first two pages were mainly 5 or 6 strings. There seemed to be more 6's than 5's, very few 4 string basses though.
  17. My old Thunder 1A weighed a ton, but by god, it sounded ace.
  18. Beautiful bass, congrats. Always really wanted one back in the day, like you say, good old Henry on Rock School. Enjoy, just make sure you have a padded strap to hand when you play it!
  19. It was a really good documentary.
