1. I can't fault Fender Stainless Steel strings, last well, sound good, and they're reasonably priced too.
2. Or is that a capital "I"? Ibanez serial numbers at the time are Month Letter then Year then 4 digit serial no., so that would make it September 1978, No. 6932.
3. Nice, I've got a 1224 & 2 different (1x12 & 4x12) matching cabs sat at home. Been wondering what it sounds like with my bass...
4. Nice. Is that a GT200 you're running? Great amps, great company.
5. http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2016/post-18402-0-83335300-1471190627.jpg "What are you doing? Taking pictures? I'm photogenic." Kitty photo-bomb. Gorgeous bass, want, but can't afford. GLWTS.
6. Don't do it... you may well regret it... Convincing enough? Didn't think so either.
7. As some of you may recall, I'm running a POD HD 500x, and we have one song with a bass intro, that is crying out for something like a AutoWah (I'm currently using a Phaser for it). The thing I'm having difficulties with is the volume between effect on & effect off. The volume drops with the effect on, then comes back up when it's switched off. I've played with a few of the Auto Wah models, my favourite being the "Tron Down", but I can't seem to get the volume levels right with the effect on. Anyone got any suggestions?
8. Nice. Though at this juncture, it would be a nice reminder to everyone that the Sale, Advertising, Trade and other such exchange of Rickenbackers and RickenFakers is prohibited on the BassChat. I would suggest that the eBay link is removed ASAP. Thanks.
9. Wasn't Westminster a Matsumoku brand?
10.
Future have pretty much ruined Guitarist too. Many old readers on the fretboard forum (that forum coming from the death of the Intermusic and Musicradar forums) don't bother anymore and switched to "Guitar and Bass" instead.
The misnomer is in the name, "Guitar AND Bass"? If we're lucky, there's one, maybe two bass related features. The current editor is an ex Guitarist / Guitar Techniques writer, and it's seriously gone down hill since he took over.
11.
Welcome to Basschat. Good luck finding an amp. Should be plenty of second hand one to choose from. I suppose you want something that would be suitable for gigging as well as home practice? When I'm not playing bass I like to ride my motorbike. I toured Scotland last year and have fond memories of riding the A9 from Inverness one morning during an almighty rain storm. It was like the lights had been turned off and a waterfall appeared.
Sounds about right around here! There's some cracking roads around here.
12. I've heard a lot of less than complimentary things said about the SD Ric pickups, and my past experience of SD's leaves me not wanting to experience them further. Though, I must admit that a noise free bass would be nice!
13.
no cover band heroes original music only so they must be able to come up with their own parts own transport a must a working knowledge of music theory. no time wasters if they are a singer, they MUST have their own PA, we have our own amps and guitars, it's only fair.
This pretty much sums it up, but I will include: The band members have to pass the dickhead test. If there is a dickhead (or dickheads) within the ranks, walk away.
14. Welcome aboard mate. Check out Gumtree Highland, the music shops don't have that great a selection in stock, there's always the local Buy, Swap, Sell on Facebook.
15. Nice dungaree's Lefty! So, has anyone tried any of the replacement pickups in their Faker's? I'm considering some different pickups for one of the triumvirate, but can't decide which ones to try. Not too sure about the Seymour Duncan's, previous experience of SD's, I haven't been very impressed with the sound quality of them. The Gemini Waverider/Tsunami pickups look pretty darn good. The JBE's are just too expensive. Any others I don't know about?
16. More 70's/80's Heavy Rock & Prog, leading on to Thrash Metal, leading onto Punk, leading back to Metal, leading back to Heavy Rock. Blame Geddy Lee & Geezer Butler mainly, but also Cliff Burton amongst others.
17. I had a Washburn Mercury for about 10 years, but I didn't touch it for about 5 of them. The next longest was my old 4003, which I had for about 5-6 years before parting with it.
18. If pop fashion was bad, then alternative scenes fashion was only slightly less so. Thrash was skinny jeans & big, white basket ball boots (went there) Goth was black lace, duster coats, big crimped hair Indie was skinny jeans, brogues & your Grandad's big coat Or it was skate gear Or army surplus Good times, dodgy fashion.
19. Another vote for the Polytune, though my old Korg DT-10 is still brilliant.
20. Now the old thread has resurfaced, and been locked, we can get on and discuss RickenFaker's.
21. Rickenbacker TRC's on RickenFakers? Some of it is down to brand snobbery, some of it down to wanting people to think it's something it isn't, some of it's down to "feel good" factor. Don't get it personally, but if it comes to selling stuff on, they need to be very clear about their "modification".
22. As someone said in an earlier post, get one of those straps with a 2 position "rear" strap, then set it up for an acceptable height for both pick & fingers. I always used to have mine slung low when I played with a pick, but the down side was having your fretting hand at a weird angle. The bass height has raised a bit over the years, but it's now at a more sensible (comfortable!) level, especially as I'm now playing with my fingers. I lowered the strap by 1 notch the other week at rehearsal to make it easier on my playing wrist, and had to put it back up the next week because my fretting hand was sore. Can't win!
