1. "Tuning stability" is the Guitarist's own specific variant of OCD.
2. Another Sennheiser HD fan here, have a set of HD200's, and they're superb and given many years solid performance. Though, according to some internet guru's, you shouldn't use closed back headphones for playing and recording music...
3. Don't know if it's me, but I find that pretty much every featured artist on Later to be tepid. And I don't think it's just been over the last half dozen years, it seems that most of the new music from the turn of the century has been mediocre and somewhat insipid.
4. How did you learn to play bass? Eventually.
5. LOL. Bedwetter core, like it. Even more bizarrely, I have always found Coldplay to be insufferably whingy, whiny and full of their own self importance, and their music to be as dull as week old dishwater.
6. Never used to like Steels on bass, was always a huge fan of Nickel's, but came back to Steels a good few years ago, and won't play anything else now. As for guitar strings, it's Nickel's everytime.
7. There seems to be plenty to rebel against, but people seem to want to be spoon fed pre-packaged meals rather than going out and finding the ingredients. Everything appears to require a defined category before people seem to listen to something new. "Social Media" has a lot to answer for IMO. Bizarrely, I always thought that Keane were actually quite good (for public school-boys).
8. Always found it a bit boring, though I now wish I'd spent a bit more time learning more about it.
9. For C#, a set of 110's should be fine. 105's are good for D, but can start to get a bit too sloppy that extra half step.
10. I'd buy 3 Rickenfakers. Or just get a 4003.
11. How about a P/J, or a G&L. The L2000 is definitely worth a look and a play. A Thunderbird is definitely a good one to try. I would highly recommend a Ric 4003, though, I'll caveat that with "try before you buy". Some people "get" them, most don't. If you're playing a P bass anyway, the neck won't feel too weird (if you played a J bass, it will feel very weird!), though you might need to stretch your budget.
12. I always thought he was seriously underrated in all his bands. The Sisters, Mission, Coloursound & The Alarm. Solid playing, great stuff.
13. It would be very cool to have it back in action though.
14.
Primarily a Wal, Rickenbacker 4001 and a Hofner violin bass. Bet you can't figure out who's basslines I was learning bass to at the time... Funnily enough, I was going to pull the trigger on a Wal but never did. Could have kicked myself. I don't really hanker after any of them nowadays... although the Wal would be nice to have in the collection.
Geddy Lee?
15.
Like others, listening to records I liked and trying to pick out the bass line and copy it... much simplified if necessary. Also worked through this classic tome. Oh the joy of getting a flexi disk to work properly... Oh yeah, and any opportunity to play with others, however modest or low key!
I had that book as well. The flexi disk was a pain and sounded dreadful. Must have worked though, still playing after 30-odd years. I learned by reading the book, playing along to records & joining bands.
16. All of them. Though I lusted after a Rickenbacker for about 15-20 years before I finally got one.
17. Owned a couple of Stingrays and a 4003, but my most expensive music equipment purchase was a handbuilt valve amp & matching cab from Matamp.
18. That Scott's bass lesson vide was really good & makes a lot of sense. Going to have to have a look at that myself.
19. Do the cosmetics affect the way it plays? Looks like a good, well used P bass, with a bit of real history I'd agree with everyone else, and say that you would pay an absolute fortune for a Fender Custom Shop relic. If the wear is not affecting the way it plays, then leave well alone. If you're not happy playing a bass with wear on, sell it as is, and find a new one that is as close to it as you can, sound and feel-wise.
20. Do you do warm up exercises before you start playing? Stretching finger muscles, arm muscles etc.? Again, have a look about how your bass is on the strap, and especially the angle of your left wrist while playing. Too sharp an angle, and you could be restricting blood flow.
