  1. Whichever sounds best & plays best.
  2. RIP Jimmy Bain, never realised he was a Highlander.

  4. Some cool responses. Surely, if they can upgrade the G3 to the G5, did they use the same processor for both? For me, a B5 unit would be ideal, I could have my amp setup (amp model > EQ/Reverb > Dirt) and then a couple of switchable effects in addition. Guess I'll have to keep my eye's peeled for either another B3 or something along the lines of another unit (Bass Pod xt Live?).
  5. I've ordered a few bits off them over the years, they've always been pretty good.
  6. Also, a lot depends on which service you use to transfer the funds. If you use a bank transfer, they all have their own rates, and PayPal has another lower rate. At the end of the day, money transfer services are in the business of making money.
  7. Bit of an update, as there's not been much going on in this thread recently... Courtesy of the RikenFakers FB Group, I have managed to purchase a new scratchplate & TRC for each of my Rockinbetter's. No.1 has the mirror finish "RickenFacker" TRC & scratchplate, and No.2 has the blank mirror TRC & 'plate. Both were made & sent out within days of ordering. They look great IMO.
  8. Nice. Active or Passive?
  9. EHX Small Clone (in the not so small steel box)
  10. I know there's a lot of "love" for the Zoom B3, but is there anyone else who thinks that it could do with the same development that our guitar playing friends have received? Zoom provide the guitarists with the choice of the G3, the G3X (built in expression pedal) & the G5 (expression pedal, pre-amp valve & up to 9 effects in a chain). To get anywhere near that, you would at least need to buy the FP02M expression pedal, and possibly another B3. Surely it would not take too much development from Zoom to do bass versions of the G3X & G5, as I would imagine that the chassis & hardware (motherboard etc) already exist, and the software would only need minor tweaks to give us bass players a seriously flexible unit. Your thoughts? Should we petition Zoom?
  11. How about "Manshed Music Emporium"? Noise abatement-wise, I'd be inclined to put Rockwool in the walls & roof and then clad the insides with either plasterboard, ply or MDF with a neoprene strip on the structural members. Likewise the floor, a slightly raised false floor, with Rockwool insulation & neoprene strips. As for the alarm, it depends on how "risky" the area you live in is, and what gear is going to be left in there. If you're putting power in there, then get the shed wired into the house alarm & bury the cable with the electric.
  12. Must admit, I'm kind of in a very similar situation... Up to around this time last year, I'd not been in a band for about 5 years (and then I was playing guitar). Saw an ad locally looking for a bass player and they mentioned not only were they planning on doing originals, but were also a bunch of forty-somethings. Got in touch, started something up and were getting on great until one guitarist got a new job & had to relocate. Band disintegrated. I advertised again, got a couple of approaches for covers bands, so went along not knowing how to play the songs fully, apologised in advance & then quickly went through the songs with the guitarist and followed him & the drummer. Wasn't perfect, but must have done something right, as they asked me to join the band at the end of the rehearsal! Anyway, I've now ended up getting something going with the other guitarist from the first band. Covers? Learn the basics of the song & interact with the guitars / drums / keys / vocals as you would in any other band situation. And good luck, hope something suitable comes your way!
  13. I bought a Tascam DR-05 literally just before the old band disintegrated, so I never managed to get any use out of it. It's sat in the box for a few months, but now the new band's starting to get moving, it'll be taken along to the next rehearsal.

  16. If the sale falls through, let me know. Thanks.
  17. Sweet. Enjoy!
  18. Any movement with the trade, or is it still for sale?
  19. And as a complete aside, buy & download a copy of "Ace of Spades" & get it to No.1. RIP Lemmy.
  20. Well, we can categorically state here and now, that BassChat has absolutely no affiliation with the RickenFakers facebook page, it's just that a few members of this foru, are members of the FB page as well.
  21. There are usually a few decent Fakers for sale kicking about on the RickenFakers FB page, it's also a good resource for learning about various Fakers. Yes, my Fakers have 2 extra frets & half an inch longer necks, but they are still through necks and sound great to my ears. Oh, and cost me a damn sight less than a current version (though they did cost ever so slightly more than my last Ric).
  22. Don't think I know that many people who haven't been touched by the man's music, and if I do know anyone who hasn't, they don't know me. RIP Lemmy. Killed by Death indeed. Mourn the man, celebrate the legend.

    Zoom B3

Thinking of buying a second B3, the first one for the amp setup (amp/reverb/boost etc), the second for effects (modulation/synth/wah/etc).
  24. I can only say listen to bands like Bad Brains, Black Flag, Discharge & the like. The bass is thundering away underneath the solo, reinforcing the rhythm and pace. As Cosmo said, look at what you're playing rather than adding effects, though a bit of reverb might help "fill" out the sound.
