Have you tried using the Tubeman with the bass? Tech21 stuff is great, you could try and find a Behringer BDI21 for a fraction of the price. There are plenty of different Preamp / DI pedals kicking about that sound good, there's also a good number of digital units available. Experiment and have fun.

Another vote for the Vintage, a surprisingly versatile guitar for the money (cost me less than £100 new when I bought it!). It's now been claimed by my son, but it gets regular use. Best bit of advice with the cheaper, laminate back acoustics, is buy a decent set of wooden pegs. Swapped the plastic ones that the Vintage came with for a set of Rosewood ones. Also, make sure you get one with a solid wood top.

A Unity 500 for £350? Bargain! Does it have an Effects Loop? Get the Unity & plug the Darkglass into the FX Return, bypassing any "colouring" that the amp's preamp may bring, though there may be some colouring from the power amp & speakers. Have been having a similar discussion for quite a few years now, but due to not being able to stretch to one of the "top notch" FRFR / PA Powered cabs, I've been using my Ashdown MAG 300 combo with a succession of Multi-FX/Modellers (currently a Line6 POD Go). Works for me.

Wondered what had happened to Black Midi, there was a big buzz about them a few years ago, then it all went quiet. Must give Geordie Greep a listen.

The oldest are a couple of years old, but that bass doesn't get used much. The next are about 8-9 months old. D'Addarioi Pro Steels.
