  1. There is the potential that I might become involved in a new project that will more than likely be heavy on the down tuning side of things. As I only own 4 string basses, all of which are strung with 45-105's, I'm starting to think I need to maybe look at getting some heavier gauge strings on one of the basses, and some nut adjustments to accommodate the heavier gauge. But, the question is, what is the best string gauge for BEAD (or possibly even lower?)? Obviously, been looking at various options, such as DR's DDT's, but how low from standard will the 45-105 set go before they loose too much tension? Just to add something else into the mix, I only ever use Stainless strings due to getting a reaction with NPS. Done a few searches, and it looks as though 65-125 would be a sufficient gauge to go for, but calling out to the collective wisdom of the BC massive for any potential guidance that can be imparted. 👍

  3. Just bought a black Ric TRC off Michael, came with some extra stickers and a badge. Top man.
  4. I'd hazard a completely uneducated guess at Kasuga.
  5. Depends on the day. My black on black 4003 is top of the list at the moment.

  7. Free bump, because I can't afford / justify another bass.
  8. That is a fine looking instrument. GLWTS.
  9. If you're not enamoured with the sound of the amp, then maybe use this to "upgrade" the amp. You don't say what sort of band you're involved with, and what sort of gigs you're playing, and whether you're using some or all of the Cube's 120w. IIRC, there's an Ashdown 1x12 combo in the Amps For Sale section, which is cheap, and would sound a darn sight better than the Cube, plus it'll give you a lot more headroom if you need it. Not affiliated with the seller btw. It also will have an effects loop and the ability to bypass the EQ section too. The downside is that they aren't the lightest.

  11. @Jean-Luc Pickguard, where did you get the black TRC from? Asking for a friend...
  12. Not helping my GAS for an 8 string... 😄
  13. Sounds like a phone call to Ashdown is required tomorrow.
  14. I Kissed a Girl - Katy Perry
  15. Was just listening to that album on Spottyfoo
  16. Working through the Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree back catalogue to find the rockier offerings.
  17. The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkle
  18. I'd disagree, as my volume is only on about a quarter, and it's plenty loud enough (probably even too loud, dare I say it!). The guitarist used to use a Marshall solid state 150 stereo rig, and the Ashdown was plenty loud enough then. He moved to a 20w valve Marshall head through a 4x12, and again, it's plenty loud enough. Depending on the situation, I may have to raise or lower the volume, but never by very much.
  19. Shoot To Thrill - AC/DC
  20. That sounds ace, would have loved to try out for them, just a shame that I'm at the wrong end of the country. Good luck finding a suitable replacement.
  21. You know he speaks the truth though. 😀
  22. I'm in Love With My Car - Queen
  23. All this talk of the Ric-o-sound in the Bass section has got me wondering... Not only have I been seriously looking at an HX Stomp XL, but also wondering whether the HX FX can split the left & right inputs into separate chains? Anyone got one & tried it? I downloaded the PDF manual, but couldn't find any reference to it. Thanks in advance. 👍
  24. All this talk of the Ric-o-sound has got me considering an HX Stomp XL...
  25. Not very by the sound of it. Left my last band earlier in the year, been informed by the guitarist that they've auditioned about three or four bass players, and they've still not found a replacement. Apparently, a couple of them didn't even learn the tunes.
