  1. Unfortunately, I know exactly what you're saying. I quit my last band earlier in the year for a number of different reasons, most of them stemming from the singist. I put a few ad's out there, saying what I was after (original material, etc.), but was still approached by covers only bands. Also approached by a couple of people wanting to do originals who sent links to their material, but when I listened to it, calling it "woeful, formulaic rubbish" would be generous. Anyway, @NancyJohnson, I don't think it's too much to ask. You can only polish a 💩 so much, until you realise it's still a 💩.
  2. Good bands need good singers, unfortunately, most good singers come with excess baggage that doesn't always make them good team players. As much as the singers think that the band revolves around them (much like their ego's), they also have to work as part of the team.
  3. Don Ouse Forget About Me - Simple Minds
  4. Thanks, I'll have to try and spend a bit of time playing with it all.
  5. Does anyone have any recommendations for a plugin for a Virtual Drummer? I've seen the Virtual Drummer on Logic, but is there an equivalent for something like Cubase or Studio One? I do have an old SR16, but would prefer a plugin. Thanks.
  6. Saw Slipknot on Sunday, good show, and surprised to see their bass player using 4 string basses, mainly a Status with SIMS LED's, a Flying V and something else I didn't recognise.
  7. The bridge pickup bezel is a good call.
  8. What about the Warwick Rockbass Star Bass?
  9. Fabulous acquisition, enjoy! 👍

  11. Wind of Change - The Scorpions
  12. The Times They Are A Changin' - Bob Dylan
  13. Off to see Slipknot on Sunday in Glasgow with my lad.
  14. It's been discussed a few times, but that's as far as it went. The singer was all for it, but the guitarist / songwriter was adamant it wouldn't happen. The drummer's not really available, as he died a few years ago. It'd be a one off, and probably no one would turn up, but it would be fun to revisit some of those songs again.
  15. Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini - Timmy Mallet
  16. Snake Bite Love - Motorhead
  17. Very nice indeed!
  18. Tanglewood always used to make a nice range of affordable, good quality acoustics. Likewise, Vintage Guitars. The only recommendation I could make, is that with Acoustic guitars especially, you need to go to a few shops and try out a shed load of instruments to find one that sounds and plays the best to you.
  19. Wings of a Duck - Madness
  20. Another reason to fuel my GAS for a HX Stomp...
  21. My son was raving about them after they played a local festival (Belladrum). He managed to speak to the drummer, who was a seriously decent bloke, and a good laugh, apparently. Made his day when the drummer gave him a signed stick (my son's a drummer). Their set was featured on the BBC Scotland footage of Belladrum if you have access to BBC Scotland content on iPlayer.
  22. Keep practicing, but if you do miss notes or whatever, just keep playing and pick up the song as quick as you can. Most of the time, no one will notice. If you do mess up at a gig, then don't make a fuss about it or show people you've messed up (shaking your head or pulling faces etc.), laugh it off and enjoy the show. The only person who'll give you a hard time about it is you.
  23. The local scene here is awash with singer/songwriters. There's a few bands, but most of them are basically singer/songwriters who've roped their mates in. Even cover bands seem to be few and far between, tons of Trad Scottish / Ceilidh bands though.
  24. IIRC, he had a stroke in 2022, and they were back on tour in 2023. And to be fair, he is 72, so I don't think anyone's going to begrudge him stepping back from 2-3 hour shows. Saw them in Glasgow last year with my son, and Nicko didn't miss a beat.
  25. Jesus Built My Hotrod - Ministry
