Just giving mine a good clean... Looks the same to me I think, minus all the marker on yours...
-
Having a bad day and that has cheered me up. Very nice.

Looks pretty right to me... I'm going to change the strings on mine this weekend. I'll whip the neck off and have a look at the pocket. Looks familiar though.
I have recordings of me playing gigs where I was certainly tipsy and recordings of me playing gigs completely sober and IN THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY the recordings of me playing when tipsy are better.
I'm similar. I have recordings of me playing sober and recordings of me playing after a few. There's no discernible difference in quality. I've certainly never been asked to redo lines because I've played them half cut. Up to the individual (and individuals involved) to decide what is and isn't acceptable. What I don't concur with is the holier-than-thou "I don't drink cos it cheats the punters" and therefore no-one else should either. That's a contraction of "I don't drink because I think it effects my performance and I think that cheats the punters". Nothing wrong with this, but when that position intrudes on your ability to form balanced opinions of others, or your perspective of someone else or their performance, that's wrong. It's a superimposition of your own viewpoint onto someone else who doesn't share that position. Judging apples against oranges. At best an impairment of your musical appreciation, at worst, a form of bigotry. I find my performance degrades if I've not eaten properly, or have even the slightest of hangovers. That doesn't mean I get all high and mighty on those who miss meals on the day of a gig, or skip breakfast before a session.

I too cannot perform hungover. Apart from in bed. Which has a lot to do with me not being able to get out of it.

There's lots of things effect your playing. Drink is but one of them. I don't think I've ever played a gig without having a few beers (or at least two) beforehand. That said, I often rehearse with a few beers, and often practice... after a few beers. Actually, I have played one. The Matthew Street Festival. No beers allowed BY ORDER. I don't think it has detriment to my performance. I'm capable of many things after a few beers. Playing bass is one. In fact, every member of every band I've been in has a few beers before gigs unless driving. We encourage it. I wouldn't do it if there wasn't a culture of it in the band though. That would be rude. Oh, and never, NEVER be more drunk than the audience. And I wouldn't drink whilst playing with strangers or in a professional capacity. Only when in the comfort of players who do the same and know each other well, on and off stage.
I have to be honest---the drummer might have been out of line but your mate also behaved like a grade A bell end too. Having a barney on-stage in front of a crowd is just a big no-no. Finish the set/gig and have words afterwards.
Yep, although I've changed my mind about leaving... I'd have stuck around just in case it got worse

A very keen price that. I've been thinking mine might go at some point, though every time I play it I dismiss the idea! I won't be offering mine up so cheap. The passive ones are hard to come by too. I've never seen another for sale. I remember the thread well. They are great basses. Much like a pre-cursor to the original Highway Ones, except built in Mexico, with the choicest parts. Oh. And painted proper
that's kind of harsh on the drummer - you think they could have done that at rehearsal!
Aye. Can't say I'd stick around in a band with someone who did that on stage, no matter how good they are. As for the audience! I'd have cringed off soon after... probably before if the drummer was that bad. But definitely after!

Minimum post count makes no sense to me at all. Other than Wayne's idea.

The Schroeder is an excellent choice for punk.

One has to look no further than a Barefaced cab. I used to have a Schroeder 1212L, it was nice, but did have a peculiarity that sometimes needed taming. That was a replacement for two 2x10 Acme Low Bs. I found this 2x12 to be much louder (actually much easier to make loud) than the 2x2x10. My Barefaced (15+8) Is even more impressive. Flat response and very efficient. And light. What's not to like? If it's the price that bothers you... I'd say wait and try to snap one up in the FS section, but they just don't come up there. Which says it's own thing.
The Schrödinger solution: At any point in time there is a small but finite probability that the right opportunity will present itself. The relaxed corollary: spliff up while you wait
And listen to this. And get yer bass out... Sounds quite similar to me no matter what Mr Ed does with the EQ. Nice amp though, but I get the Hi Fi thing. Very Seinfeld.

The SVT pro 3 is a very versatile amp. It'll do clean and flat. But it'll also do very distorted. No overdrive, through mild overdrive to heavy, heavy overdrive. You don't quite get the full growl of the power amp section of an all valve SVT, but it's not bad at all. Ampeg's shizzle is all in the mids, which is where the growl is at. The other thing I like about the SVT 3 and the SVP (SVP is the pre-amp) and the SVT-IIP is how well and how much they respond to changes in valves, there's a lot that can be tailored. I've not tried one through Bergs. Aren't Bergs full range and hifi? If so, it wouldn't sound a million miles away from my rig. I can get plenty of growl from it, using fingers and flats, even using a P with the treble rolled completely off. It sounds plenty "Ampeg/SVT" when I want it too, without an Ampeg cab. The only criticism I've got of them is that they're not quite beefy enough in the power section for me. So would depend on how loud you go and how efficient the Bergs are.

I joined yesterday but ceased to make an introduction..

More Liverpudlians! Hurrah!! (That is unless you're Evertonian??) Hello anyway. -
Maybe something like this would do what you want? Don't know what effect it'd have in practical terms or how much it'd cost to try, but I saw it when I was reading up on onboard pre-amps the other day, so thought I'd mention it.
The function of that box is allow you to connect speakers or arrays of speakers into amps with different impedances without causing damage isn't it? What I'd be doing with 2 4Ohm Acmes is doing what I did with them. Turn them into 2 16 Ohm cabs. Then do what I should have done with them and run them in parallel using a nice powerful bridged power amp at 8 Ohm. Or singly @ 16 Ohm. The problem I found with them @ 4 Ohm (even without a low B ) is the strain they put on the power transistors. Even amps that should be able to run them get very hot! This is because you have to give them plenty of power because of their relative inefficiency and their proficiency at reproducing low end which draws even more power than you think you are hearing. Didn't have a problem at all after they were required. Amps ran noticeably cooler at higher gain.
-
I agree with the Foxen... I had 2 4 Ohm Acme Low B2s and actually rewired them so they were 16 Ohm. Even that didn't change perceived volume. Though it did stop me blowing fuses and melting transistors in my amp. They just aren't particularly efficient cabs. They sound great, go low and do go dead loud when pushed with the right juice, but they do need the right juice. I much prefer 8 Ohm cabs now. Not sure I'd ever consider a 4 Ohm one again.
