Although, obviously it's better to have 'integrity' and not get high profile gigs.
Nah... he's deffo doing it for the money. If money was no object do you seriously think he'd still do it?
2. I like the idea of these : Bravo Valve Headphone amp No eq - but I bet it would work a treat.
3. I've played 2 of those 62RIs and own a 65RI - they're the best basses I've played and I've played some rather nice ones Lovely.
4.
Actually, I do have a tiny cheat-sheet... but all it's got are the song titles, the keys and a sign for whether it's me straight in on the intro or not, just in case of total mental breakdown. But I haven't glanced at it the last three times.
I do this. I write on the set list. The key, the first note and when to come in. On songs when in first, I give it a different name that reminds me how the first bar goes, perhaps a sentence with the right meter.
5. You could always rewire the 8x10 to be 8Ohm.
6. This has got to be some sort of shill bidding scam.
7. You look a bit different with that haircut! Great sound. I was gonna come along, but can't come now. When are you next playing in Nottnum?
8. I've had one go on me. Was due to a fault (dodgy transformer) on a pre-amp, but a fault that didn't blow either of my mosfet power amps. Repairing them isn't easy, parts are expensive and tend to only be available from manufacturers. In fact, the manufacturer of mine wanted me to send the unit back for repair rather than sell the parts. I'm resigned to carrying round an extra 10kg for the trouble I've found.
9. I tend to let soundmen do what they want. It's their rig, their room, etc etc. Once I've got to know them, perhaps played the venue once or more, had a few beers with them, then I might start asking them do things. Otherwise, I find it's best to let them get on with it, unless they're really f***ing things up. DIing from my bass, I'm not sure I'd class as f***ing things up... though I'd feel a little silly dragging my amp there and back if so. On the whole, I've found engineers easy to get on with, as I am too If we're paying them... then that's a different matter. But being a pain in the arse over "I want the crowd to hear my carefully" whatever will get you nowhere. You want that? Bring your own PA and tell the engineer to piss off home.

Best 2x12

No love for the Schroeder 1212L? 'tis a lovely little beasty.
11. My left hand is better than my right on this test... which is rather worrying!
12. TIs all the way. I've stopped using them after years as they're just tooo flexible...
13. So... part of this thread is slagging off a thread on TB for slagging off some bass player? Can we get one started on TB, slagging this thread for slagging off their thread..? Otherwise I'm not interested
14. It's possible (maybe desirable) to do this if you've got a stereo amp and a cab with 2 speakers. You have to mod the cab to do it though. eg. I have a 4ohm cab which is made up of 2x12 @ 8Ohms each. The speakers are rated at 400W each. The cab @ 800W. I have a stereo amp which outputs 400W per channel @ 8Ohm and 600W pc @ 4Ohm. Having each channel run it's own speaker gives slightly more power. 2x400W instead of 600W. Benefit (if any) isn't really that it sounds louder, it's that it runs the amp slightly less hard. Not really the same as what you're suggesting though
15. I have one exactly like that and have been looking for another for years. Mine's made by "Stones Music". Don't they exist any more. Well I was wrong... here you go...
16.
For uncoloured cabs you really won't find anything to beat Acme Sound. Having owned pretty much every cab from Epifani to Trace to Aguilar to Eden to Markbass to EA to Bergantino and Accugroove, I've stuck with the Acme's. They go deeper than any other cab, they're not hyped and overpriced like Bergantino, and they REALLY are very, very uncoloured. They're also superbly well made. Partner it with an EA or Markbass head. I know you said you didn't want Markbass, but the LM2/3 does scope as being very 'flat'.
Yep. I used to have Acmes. I bought them off Alex Clabber. Too neutral for me though. I like a bit of mid hump in my cabs, easier on my amps! Some Low B2s, a decent power amp (probably 500W+ per channel to make up for the inefficiency of the Acmes) is where I'd start if I were the OP. Some sort of compresssor / gate / limiter to cut frequencies that don't work in the room - esp with such full range cabs, then find a suitable pre amp that sounds nice with the bass used.
17. I don't really get bored playing songs I know in a band. The Devil's always in the detail.
18. I think it was Derek I spoke to when I bought some valves there. He's got an SVT-IIP and SVT 300 poweramp. If it is. Knows his Ampeg pre's.
19. I love my Pitchjack. Other than a rack tuner, I don't think I'd bother with anything else.
20. Thanks! We've done sporadic Neil Young for a bit - then we started doing more... We'll be doing some studio ones and recording some more live ones. I broke my A string at this gig and had to play the 2nd half with 3 strings! I agree about it being a bit quick... I think this was 1st on the list after the break.
21. When You Dance (Live) Forgive the myspace... and please forgive this being the first time being played out - and after a few beers, after not too many rehearsals!
22. I love the valve stuff obviously but the cheaper HiWatt stuff is absolute rubbish.
23.
Do they make a passive one at the moment? Scouring the Fender site I could only see this one...
Not sure about that. I think the maybe the passive ones were FSRs... mine's an FSR matte black with an anodised aluminum (I think) plate. Lovely it is. And £800 when new in 2002.
I've not seen a passive one. I'm not usually bothered about active electrics, but they work very nicely on this bass. I read somehwere, that the US version of my bass has different pickups but I can't confirm that. I really like the mix of precision and jazz pickups. It gives you so much choice. Having a pan control is excellent too. I like it, with about 2 thirds P. to 1 third Jazz.
Unless the US deluxes had there own unique pups - these are the same. They do two variants of the noiseless jazz pups - a standard and a vintage. These might be the vintage whilst the US has the standard I suppose. Certainly the decal on these is vintage.
24.
The people most likely to pull your playing apart are the guy in his 40s who used to play bass, but gave up when he left college and became a solicitor, and the guy whose brother-in-law was a roady for Shawaddywaddy. You don't need to worry about either of them.
Very true! I've been there before... not so much the self doubt thing... but playing at acoustic open mics with a singer songwriter... It's good fun and certainly improved me a player and writer a lot more than knocking around doing covers with some "all the gear" crew. We were an acoustic duo - we're now a 4 piece electric band with 2 fellas who both asked to join after said open mics. Which is nice.
