2.
Not quite Mullards, but these are made in Blackburn in the original Mullard factory: http://www.techtubevalves.com/ They're a new design that's a direct drop in for the ECC81/2/3. They're, unsurprisingly, not cheap... but have had pretty good write-ups so far. If you want new production, then I hear the new Tung Sol's are good too.
That'll be them then. I dunno why I had Coventry in my mind. I've never even been there
 3.
I thought the reason most modern valves are madeoutside of Europe is because some of the metals used in them/production techniques involve 'toxic' metals/chemicals which are not economic to use under EU law. Totally haven't got a citation for that at the moment though.
All I know is there's some clued up fella's who want to make "Mullard" valves and are near enough to going into production with them that the fella I take my amp to told me about em when I mentioned getting hold of some NOS. He reckons they'll be pretty close to the originals otherwise they wouldn't be bothering / he wouldn't know about them. He designs and makes bespoke valve hifis mostly so he knows his valves.
 4. A little dickie bird told me there's someone planning to make Mullards again soon in Coventry.
 5. Does anyone else think there's quite a big difference between a maple and rosewood fretboards? To me they feel, play and sound completely different. My main bass a the moment is an MIM rewired with a 62 reissue pup and a mighty mite maple neck. It's got a 1uf oil/paper cap in it too. It does dull thud all the way to an almost brittle snap. Although to be honest I tend to roll the tone back about a 1/4 and hardly touch it
 6.
Anyone tried one of these yet? Any good? Cheers, John.
Anyone had a go with one yet?
 7. Nice. Are they doing maple as well as rosewood?
 8. These are excellent basses. I've got the passive version and love it. Easily as good as any US Fender I've played. You're right about the neck. Very slimline with a jazz width nut. I've got a spare P bass neck which I swap over every now and again. I still go back to the "jazz" neck though even though I do prefer P necks.
 9.
I think I can now say....its mine. Best looking Jazz ever IMHO. Ruairidh has been ace in getting this deal sorted out, top man. Thanks again, Nathan
Well done! I abstained from basschat for a day or so and come back to find a bass I've been gassing for about 18 months goes on sale and gets sold I've been thinking about importing one these from Japan.
 10.
Hi all, I picked up a Marshall JCM800 Superbass MKII 100w non master volume head the other day- pics will follow asap- & while I've looked at Marshall's site & seen that almost EVERY other amp they made has a manual, I can't find one for my amp head. Anyone know where I could download one?? Cheers, Rod
I never found a manual when I had one too. I did find a schematic which I could dig out for you probably, if you want that...
 11. Chambino knows the score. He used to be a bass player himself. Not sure in which band, but that's why he's into big valve amps.
 12.
3, which takes the rough count to 1524 1/2
I'm in for 3. 1527
 13. Bass Fascists. Whatever next!? I rule my band with an iron fist. Nobody is allowed to tell others what to do or how to do it. Actually, I just tend to encourage that, rather than demand it. But woe betide anyone telling me what to play... I mean, I listen like... I might even take some notice... but I don't tell you how to play your bit do I? Unless you play drums... then I might have some suggestions. Oh... and I'm gonna play the main riff in that bit so I think you should play some harmony over it... Fascists indeed. String em up. Sounds like you're better of without 'em...
 14.
If you can't be arsed to try and work the above out, here is a live but IMO not-so-good version on Tube
The live versions not so good cos it ain't got a bassline
 15.
Is it just me who doesn't like maple with blocks? It seems 99% of the blocked boards I see are maple, but I think rosewood + MoP looks loads nicer.
I don't like maple and black blocks either. I like maple and pearl blocks, though I prefer rosewood too.
 16. I've been playing for about 20 years also, with a break of about 10 when I wasn't in a band. Also used to pick up the bass now and again for fun though. I still feel like the more I practice, the better I get.
 17.
You won't get a cheaper (or arguably better) solution than a linkwitz-riley filter crossover. If you want to have both low and high frequencies filtered you would simply use the Mid output of a 3-way crossover (think DBX, Behringer, Samson etc etc) The Low/Mid frequency control would be set to (example) 50 Hz, the Mid/High to (example) 3kHz. The Mid output would then consist of audio between 50 Hz and 3kHz. Nothing needs to be connected to Low output or High output, you just use the Mid. You don't need to use two channels, you can feed several amps from any output.
That makes a lot of sense. I'd have to use a Y splitter to feed the two channels of the power amp?
 18.
An easier solution might be to find a power amp with a highpass filter in - or use an fmod between your preamp and power amp. And then roll the tone knob off on your bass for the lowpass requirements. http://store.hlabs.com/pk4/store.pl?view_product=10 The Superfilter is hideously expensive for what it does. Cheap compared to their basses though! Alex
I did think about the fmods, but wondered how accurate and transparent they'd be. Whaddya reckon?
 19.
http://www.alembic.com/prod/sf2.html There has to be quite a bit of irony in owning a pair of the widest bandwidth cabs on the market but then wanting to bandpass them! What frequencies are you looking to have the filters set at? Alex
I am Mr Irony sometimes Well I was going to start by cutting out all the <40hz. That Alembic thing does look interesting but it's a bit pricey innit!
 20.
I suppose you could use the "MID" band on your Peavey in mono mode which should mean that both the crossover frequencies would do this. It does seem a bit crude though, and you would have to parallel the output elsewhere (your amp?) to make two mirrored outs but they wouldn't work independently. It doesn't appear clear on your diagram which out would be the mid out in 3 way mode. It almost seems like trying to use a sledgehammer to crack a walnut.... Maybe there are some boxes on the market (even a pedal) that just do what you're after? Not too much of a product catalogue index myself I'm afraid.
I don't have the peavey, I just picked that one out as an example. Thanks for all the replies... it does seem like there's no sensible solution to what I want to do... which makes me think I'm not being very sensible... There is this thing I've found... http://www.kmraudio.com/catalogue/product_...b0d4232792680af That does what I want but it's for a studio console. And it's errr... £500!
 21.
The problem you have (from reading into your intentions) is that you are after the top curve of the High portion, and the low curve of the Low portion on the same output. You then want this mirrored onto a second output for your other cab. On a fixed crossover like the one you mention, the two curves never meet as they are always on separate outputs. Some higher end DSP crossovers (I'm specifically thinking of PA stuff such as XTA as that's what I know) can be programmed to do what you're asking as both ends of the filter are programmable. However, what you are actually asking is for the crosover to work as an EQ filter. A lot of graphics have HPF and LPF controls/switches on them and give you all the EQ in between.
I can't find any crossovers that don't output different bands on different outputs. Thus my original confusion. I'd be happy with two knobs, one a sweepable high pass, and one a sweepable low pass. I don't need any other EQ as my pre-amp has low, mid (with a mid range freq selector) treble, and a graphic EQ on it. That's plenty.
 22.
If you're using this unit, although it has a adjustable crossover frequency(ies), it has fixed H, M and L bands. It wouldn't do what you want it to do becuase it deals with each section on a separate output.
I thought as much. Does anyone know of one that'll output into 2 channels?
 23.
Yes - you will need a 3-way crossover.
Ok. So say for instance I have a peavey vsx crossover... it does 2 and 3 way. The face plate is as such... The back plate is as such... How would it work in terms of the controls? And how would I connect the outputs to a 2 channel power amp?
 24. Okay... Okay! Thanks for the advice. But the crossover idea would still work if I wanted to stop low and high frequencies getting to the cabs (using the same frequencies for both cabs)? Or am I best off using an EQ? Basically, what I want is a sweepable high and low pass filter. I think
 25.
Run the lows to both B2s and have another amp/;cab for higher stuff, like a guitar combo or something.
I stuggle to get everthing in the car as it is!
