Both of them have blown the power light though. Which is a shame cos they're a nice blue colour.

I've not played with the b200r, But I've got a b50r and play with a b100r at the studio when we leave the drummer out. Both excellent amps. I've been thinking about getting a b200r for a while now myself.

I'm in a 3 piece. Our first drummer left - went to university in Norwich :wacko: (he's quite a bit younger than us). Luckily we got another, but he wasn't anywhere near the style of the first, which meant we rewrote the material. Then he left - off to go play percussion with Julian Cope or something or other. We rewrote the material and some different and started playing as a duo. We've recently started playing with another guitarist. So we're back to 3, but with no drums. Interestingly, for me anyway... playing live with no drummer has been the most eye-opening thing I've done as a musician. We're auditioning a new drummer next week who we've got high hopes for. After playing for 6 months - about 10 gigs and an album without one. I suppose my point is that if you can get on with the remainder - why not just carry on - you don't need all the parts you think you need, you just need determination and a willingness to make music from who's left.

I used to always use a pick. I spent years learning how to play fingerstyle. I've now forgotten how to use a pick. V odd.

Acme Low B2 - where can you get them from in the UK ?.

I've got Alex Clabbers Acmes. I use them with a 100W Marshall JCM800 Bass Series head and haven't struggled to get volume out of them despite them having low sensitivity and Acme themselves telling me that 100W wouldn't cut it. They recommend 300W per 2x10. However, that said, I don't think I'm getting anywhere near the volume out of them that they're capable of. Although I've played with 2 drummers with this rig, one of whom is insanely loud & proud of it. No problem at all. In fact people remark about how loud and full the sound is. Two works for me better than one - but that's probably due to me underpowering them. They are designed to be the equivalent of a "standard" 4x10. Alex did order them direct from Acme. -

They have the same tuners as MIA reissues. The stock blank MIMs are the same tuners you get on Highway 1's

Sounds to me like you've got a neck with a natural bow and that the truss rod has no adjustment left. To see if that's true, loosen the truss and see if that makes any effect. If it does : You could try removing the nut from the rod and putting washers on it, put the nut back on - that will give you more adjustment. I did this once, it worked, but the truss broke through the back of the neck. Apparently though, that's a very rare occurrence and we did hear warning "creaks" before it did. The neck got fixed by glue and submergence in water in a jig. It's now fine. If it doesn't - does the truss rod haver any effect at all? ever? if so - I reckon you should remove it - clean it, and reinstall it. If that doesn't work - get a new neck.

Hmmm. Why all this talk of losing the g string? surely if you tune BEAD then G is the second fret of the top string. You don't lose anything, you just gain an extra two frets lower and lose two frets where you shouldn't be playing anyhow. You fella's talk car-azy talk, your problem would be : 1) your bass's a) itonation )although if you were to use eadg strings - that shouldn't be a problem really) set up 2) your speakers (maybe) 3) your engineers (if any) 3) your ears 4) your playing flop flop...

I clean em with a duster even now and again. Flatwounds stay clean really. Even when I used roundwounds I hardly ever cleaned or changed em though. I don't like zingy new strings.

I was thinking of getting one a while back. I've seen them go A LOT cheaper than that. £250-£350 range. That was maybe a year ago.

I've got an Ampeg b50 Rocket which I got off ebay for about £150. Was a few years back. - But is excellent for around the house - it sounds like a proper amp but is smallish - being a 1x10 and is not too thunderous for next door. Don't think there's that many of them about though.

I've got a MIM precision with a bit of flaming on the back of the neck. my camera phone doesn't pick it up but it is there. It's a 2002.

Well. How often does this question come up? As with all basses and guitars 3 factors make a good instrument. 1) Workmanship 2) Materials 3) Set up If you consider that MIMs are made from the same stock material as MIAs (esp MIM factory upgrades and FSRs with MIA electrics) and that the MIM and MIA factories aint a million miles away from each other - it's quite easy to deduce that the set up is the main difference between a MIM and an MIA? MIJs are a different comparison - they're made from totally different materials and by a workforce / factory on another continent.

I took a plastic bag with my overdrive pedal in it to a gig once. Never used it though so I've never done it again. I should really take some spare strings but I've never broken one whilst playing - only when f***ing about with them - and I've never broken a flatwound. I carry a hardcase with a bass, a strap and a lead. I've got a good leather strap with locks and a 15ft whirlwind. If I've recently indulged in any setting up I sometimes take a small array of tools in order to be able make any minor adjustments I deem necessary before or whilst getting drunk / during soundcheck. Usually I don't bother.
