2.
I'm halfway through Slash's autobiography and I'm loving it. I'm not a die hard Guns and Roses fan, but its a fantastically comical and interesting read.
Couldn't agree more - although I am a big GnR fan. Bought Slash's book as such. Was very surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it as a reader rather than a fan. I'm reading Ronnie Wood's biog at the moment. It's good but it seems to be dragging on a bit. Slash's just kept on rocking!
 3.
big john- which input is which? i have a '92 JCM too but i dunno what input is which
On mine the hi-gain is deffo on the right. Not sure on the vertical aligned ones. You can sort of "see" from the circuit diagram 1992 preamp pdf Taking mine out for it's first rehearsal with it's new little friends tonight - a pair of Acme Low B2s. Got it's first gig tomorrow too! What cabs do you use with yours?
 4.
Apparently it's two channel, so high and low gain for each channel maybe?
Hmm - yeah it says something about hybrid between a bass and lead series. Would be interesting. I wonder if you could wire it to take a stereo bass into each channel (or if that's the point - with Lemmy playing Ricks)
 5. Interesting - I wonder what the four inputs are for... My 1992 has 2 inputs - one high gain and one low.
 6. I've got a bass that I'm slowly repairing. At one stage (about 15 years ago) it got got flood damaged, and ended up with quite a serious bow. It must have got wet, and then whoever was in charge of if left the strings on. Using the truss rod - and a couple of washers to get extra turn on it - I then managed to almost get it straight, but then split the neck - the truss rod came right out the back up by the headstock. Was a shock to say the least. I glued this split - clamped it - and tried again - the same thing happened. Only then did I think "hmmm - I'm putting flatwounds on it" - and realised the tension was higher. The neck has since been soaked in a bath - and jigged to put a back bow in it. Now it's quite straight with flats on - but some of the fretboard has swelled, so it needs frets removed and the fretboard to be sanded flat again. All fun. All because I decided to use this bass again and I don't like roundwounds anymore. Certainly in general - flatwounds are higher tension. Stands to reason really doesn't it - there's more metal in the string so they take more tension to get to the required pitch.
 7.
Vinegar being the common name for diluted acetic acid, it does alot more stuff than you'd expect.
Vinegar, wd40 on your nuts, dirty screws? The tone of this forum is going downhill. I'm off to look at some porn.
 8.
Sometimes we might be playing a song and I think that a little fill might sound good but like you I don't trust myself to just do it, especially in a performance. So any fills and runs that I very occassionally put in are all in fact pre-planned and rehearsed.
I wish I had your restraint! Although - to be honest - most of my "fills and runs" are me finding my way back home after finding myself accompanying whatever our guitarist has decided to play today. Agree with all the learning TV commercials and stuff. I've always pretty much ignored music theory (I know what key I'm in, and a few scales - that's about it...) and learned patterns on the fretboard - and then learned to link those patterns to my ear. A good trick is learning to tell what key something is in by listening to it - when you start to play along, people think you know how to play it! ha ha ha!!
 9. WD40 is good. Spray some into a small jar, put your nuts in. As with the vodka - don't drink it after.
 10.
Hi, How does the marshall sound? What is the eq like? Can you get it to distort nicely like an ampeg?
Yeah Yeah Yeah. It's a beast It does some mean distorted sounds. Nice with these Low B Cabs too (although I don't do low . All the overdrive is amp not cab. It's deeeep. Eq is good - it makes a difference - it always sounds rock/blues though. Which is nice
 11.
Yes, I had a friend who did this on his Precision - P p/up straight to the front knob and J p/up via a new audio taper pot (where the treble bleed pot had been) on to the front vol.
Ah cool - so it is possible then. So that should mean Master Vol / J Pup Vol / Tone is also possible. Instead of P Pup Vol / J Pup Vol / Tone which I have on my current bass. Is this an easy mod?
 12. How was it? I'm in Nottingham too. Did you go local?
 13.
But then you go smaller than a micron .
My girlfriend was funny last night when I was testing her patience by watching the Stephen Hawking programme. "so if the nucleus of an atom is the width of a human hair, the electron is 2 miles away? how can an atom be the width of a human hair? How can it be 2 miles when they're so small?"
 14. Is there a way of wiring a vol pot just on the j pickup? I'm thinking (when I eventually get round to building a bass) of having a vol pot on the j - and a master vol pot. 2 knobs. 90% of the time I play with both vol pots up 100% - sometimes I turn my j down a bit.
 15. I find 15s a bit muddy. I don't find them any deeper. I find 2x15 cabs even muddier. But 15s mixed with 10s are fine. I've got a combo with a 15 and an 8 - and that is far from muddy. I really like it but it's not loud enough for my current drummer. Was great with my last one though. The 8" really provides the clarity and punch the 15 lacks. I prefer 10s though now. I'm really not sure about 12s. I was thinking about going down the 12s route until I played with a Marshall 4x12. Not as good as their 4x10. It's all personal though isn't it.
 16. Here's my new one. Thanks to Alex for the B2s. Not heard it in full flight yet. Even with one speaker on it's making a mess of my kitchen. MacMearshall (not like Tee's Oranguilar at all )
 17. I'm in a three piece so won't have much bearing! We're (me and the drummer) are thinking about him turning his kit 90 degrees towards me - and us playing right at each other. Sure we'll do it soon enough to see if it works.
 18.
The eq is not as flexible as others I`v tried but to amplify the sound of a good bass I am delighted and cannot think of anything better.
That's it. I've got a JCM800 Bass Series. It sounds just like a JCM800 Bass Series! Like any amp - it amplifies the sound of the bass - but it does add a good bit of rock and blues for you. Excellent thick distortion - and back to clean thump & honk. I get more variance in tone from adjusting the tone pots on my j/p than I do with the eq - I tend to just use to the eq to find the space in the mix I can hear myself the best in the room. In short - they're inflexible. But that's perfect if you want what they sound like anyway. Mine is heavy - you want to walk the shortest distance with it. Park outside etc. 400m is toooo far.
 19.
i think you could stick it on ebay as a "Fender Jazz Bass" and then list the build in the description. I think you might do quite well out of it - that's just me saying, but if not, let me know how much you want for the control panel
I'd have thought so too. you wouldn't get as much as a MIA, as it isn't, but you'd get more than a MIM I'd have thought. If I bought a standard MIM, I'd be looking to upgrade it similarly so you'd have saved me the bother. Although I'd use different parts and want to do it myself Lovely bass though. If I'd have built it, I'd be loathed to take it apart again.
 20. I know goats are popular with us computer geeks. I never realised rabbits were so musical. Do people prefer wild or shop bought?
 21.
Hell yeah, it goes up to 11 doesn't it?
Mine goes down to -5 also - are you in a rented rehearsal room? If so - ask to try another - or rehearse somewhere else. A dead practice room is not the place to be.
 22.
Great band with some great, great songs! Stone in love Whos cryin now? Dont stop believing superb!
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart). Love it!
 23. Has the tube just "fallen" out or is the socket damaged?
