1. The Whispers and Shalamar. Look up a Bernard Edwards discography to find out the acts he recorded with.
2.
Pete, I saw that tour/concert as well. They absolutely buried Santana. I loved their stage show as well. They were members of the Magic Circle and some of the "tricks" were amazing. Oh, and Verdine White is up in the top division. Have seen them about 5 or 6 times. Talking about stealing shows, James Brown made Red Hot Chilli Peppers look 2nd rate when I caught them in Manchester.
Wow, didn't think anyone else had caught that!.
3. I discovered the 'That's The Way Of The World' album when it first came out. Changed my bass playing life. I saw them live in 76 supporting my favourite band, Santana, and they just stole the show.
4. Just been watching an EWF concert from the 70s. This is the band that, along with AWB, got me into funk. The songs are amazing, the arrangements and vocals are immaculate. But how good are the bass parts? Do you agree Verdine is one of the best?
5.
Did I say "sh*tty factory"? Sorry, I meant to say Music shop..... Only kidding Pete!!!!!
6. Go to www.guitarcollective.co.uk where my mate Pat collects and buys Fender Japanese instruments. Mention me.
7. I don't trust live albums these days. Far too much post production IMO.
8. Seriously folks, these basses are unbelievable. And no, I'm not on commission.
9. As a proud Roscoe user, I would say BUY THIS!
10. Never tried Optima. I've tried a zillion different makes and seemed most impressed with Ernie Ball Coated...they lasted well and sounded and played nice (to me, anyway). Not cheap, though. I just bought a Jazz that's got DRs on it and they sound nice. If you don't want to spend a fortune, you probably can't go wrong with Elites, as there's some good deals on them.
11. Looks like an Encore or similar generic Chinese-made.
12. Sorry, they just don't do it for me.
13.
..Although technically,it was on his third solo album I think everyone probably knows my thoughts on Marcus already,so before this becomes a debate on whether he's ace or not,I just want to say that if you don't like him already, you probably still won't. But....hearing his band being augmented by the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is just supremely cool, and adds a lot of weight and brings a new vibe to the music.
I know, I know His first two were crap. I was really excited about 'Silver Rain', but when I listened to it I thought it was just the same old thing. I actually prefer Victor Wooten's Soul Circus, which IMO had some good songs.
14.
Oh!!??!!?
Am I too old to understand this? Freedoms? Are they a brand of trousers or trainers? Help!!!
15.
They are like those things you get for a quid in the pub toilet, except they have no knobbly bits, don't taste of black pepper vodka or curry, are they are FREE.
16.
YOU ARE JEALOUS OF HIS FREEDOMS!
Freedoms?
17. I thought the first album with Teen Town on was amazing. I like all of them, but I understand they can be a tad predictable. Wasn't too keen on the last one.
18. John Paul Jones uses them. Been going for donkeys. His dad Charles was a nasty piece of work, though.
19. I honestly think it works on record. Live-wise, I've only heard what I see on YouTube. Personally, I think it's groundbreaking stuff. Arguably the three greatest players on the planet. But I have to add that IMO Victor is the main contributor. The solo piece he does, where he adds one note after another on the fly, is not only a party piece but is sheer genius. How the hell does he pull that off?
20. It was lovely to meet you and your daughter...I think we may have a future Roland keyboard sale. Hope the Hartke does the job. Keep me posted.
21. Pretend the cable is faulty. Works every time.
22. I would personally not play altogether for a short while. Abstinence usually works for all forms of creative block.
23. Peg, Black Cow, Kid Charlemagne, Green Earrings, Greenflower Street. Spanish Hustle by Fatback Band I Shoulda Loved Ya by Narada Michael Walden Somebody Else's Guy Le Freak
24.
I look at it this way.... If you're an amateur, then playing gigs is fun, so just enjoy it whatever song you're doing. You're there to entertain an audience, so as long as they like the songs, thats what really matters. If you're a professional, enjoy it even more, you're lucky enough to be playing bass for a living.... you could be working 10 hours a day in some sh*tty factory! (apologies to anyone who works in a factory)
Is that a factory that makes sh*t? Geez, wouldn't like that job!
25.
If you want a rosewood fretboard go for a rosewood fretboard. If you listen to all the preferences expressed on these forums you'll never end up ordering your bass at all! For every person who says one thing is best there will be another with the opposite opinion. Stick to your own thoughts for your dream bass!!
You're right.
