1. Just brought on an attack of nostalgia. These are the names I remember from my distant youth: Lincoln Curlee Kay Columbus (I had a Jazz copy) Vantage Cimar Avon (I had an EB0 copy) Winfield Harmony
2. If my memory serves me right, there were some basses around at the time which were branded 'Lincoln'. Mostly variations on the S.D. Curlee.
3. I'm usually OK with someone else using my gear, as long as a I know who it is beforehand. I've been in situations where it's been impractical to bring two rigs, and have used someone's else's rig. I think if the other player(s) is experienced, he or she will treat the gear with repect. Saying that, if it was a few bands, I might be a bit wary. We're doing a gig with another band soon and I'm using their rig, as we're the opening act. It's an Ampeg SVT AND 8 X 10"
4. A frtiend has asked me what this Hofner 500/5 Stuart Sutcliffe might be worth, with a view to selling it. I think it's 1959 or 1960. He's fitted a new front pickup and scratchplate, bought direct from Hofner. Otherwise, all original. Any ideas? 6.
Or maybe someone nice would have knocked on the the door and said "excuse me sir, I couldn't help noticing...."!
If only.
7. My experience made me glad I don't actually live in a nice area. If I did, the recipient of my Tobias might have realised it was worth more than the next hit.
8.
I've only owned a pimped up jazz bass does that count?
Pimp My Jazz? I'm calling Channel 4 now...
9. Maybe I fell lucky. This Jazz just doesn't need any enhancement. Saying that, I may consider breast implants for it at some stage...
10.
My Alembic MK Signature - the only bass I ever regretted moving on
How much did you sell it for, if you don't mind me asking?
11. A few years back I arrived back home from a gig and stupidly left my Tobias Classic 5 outside my door after loading into the house. At the time I was using two basses for two different bands. The next gig for the Tobias was a couple of weeks later. On the night of the gig I went to fetch it from my spare room and couldn't find it. I then realised it had been taken that night. I contacted the police and put together an info sheet for local music shops etc. My first port of call was the local Cash Converter. They took the sheet with the photo and info on it and said they'd look out for the bass. Five minutes later I got a call saying they knew where the bass was. Apparently, they had bought it from a young lad for £25. The lad was probably just after some drug money. The shop hadn't a clue what the bass was, so sold it someone for £80 (or so they said). They told me they could get it back from the guy they sold it to. To cut a long story short, they must have had it in the back of the store all the time, until they could suss what it was worth. I ended up paying them £60 and I had it back in safe hands. I would have paid £1000. So, has anyone else had something stolen/taken and got it back again?
12.
Just had to nip to toilet that if you are reverting to me? lol
You can't ignore nature calling. Give the Epi a wide berth.
13. Ooh...he's nipped off.
14. There have been a few past threads on this subject. Opinions seem quite divided. Personally, I like the more expensive stuff.
15. Epiphone is the cheaper brand of Gibson, made in the Far East. It's generally good, depending which series you have. However, I wouldn't associate it with funk. What model have you seen?
16. How did we forget this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6HPJJjqvG0

18. I fought the urge to change the pickups and bridge, and stick an East preamp on it. Doesn't need it.
19.
Agreed I am selling my 73 Jazz for this very reason. P-basses all the way for me. Want a 73 to go with your 79 Pete?
Sorry mate, can't afford.
20. I've played and owned a fair few basses in my lifetime. I've always loved Jazz basses but have only recently taken the plunge and bought a 79. Best purchase ever. It does everything. Anyone else agree?
21.
Don't do this to me.........
Come on, you know you want to.
22. Extraordinary.

How's that for a double-whammy bump up? Bass and gig in one!
24. I'm a Roscoe user and can only say this bass is absolutely stunning and should be bought...now. I have not received a backhander for this post. These are just amazing basses.
25.
An ear for music is a gift. I'm cursed without a good natural ear.
What about the other unnatural one?
