1. Used to do 'Morning Dance' in a covers band many moons ago.
2.
So sell it and buy something taller. Job done.
Why didn't I think of that...d'oh!
3.
It'll only devalue the cab if you're expecting to sell it, and if that's the case then obviously it still isn't the right cab for you.
Maybe so, but these are the right cabs. I should also mention it was quite a big job getting it done and also the new cabs aren't as tall, and so would hinder the correct height of the legs. Or something like that...
4. It looks like an Ashdown rif-off, especially with the Ultrabass control and VU meter. A good starting point is with the tone controls at 12 o'clock, as this is usually a 'flat' setting. Anti-clockwise should cut the tone and clockwise should boost. Might be helpful if you specifiy what music you play and what sound you like.
5.
I was pondering this very topic this morning following the first outing of a new rig with two GS112's on Friday. I thought the extra height would help the whole band to hear the bass guitar a little clearer in the on stage setting, without increasing the overall volume. The choices at this point were - To stack the GS112's on their sides to gain the height for the top cab. Not sure how this would affect the performance of the speaker cones themselves however. - To carry some kind of purpose built stand. The least preferable option as it would involve more carrying. Perhaps there are other solutions ? T
A couple of years ago I posed the problem to my girlfriend's uncle, who is an engineer. I was then using an Ashdown Mini115 and 408 rig. He built retractable legs into the bottom of the 115 cab. You pulled each leg out and tightened them with a built-in thread. It was quite ingenious and although the legs were a tad wobbly, it served the purpose. I got some ribbing about it, though, from other band members. I'm tempted to have him do this again on the New Yorker 604, but I think it would devalue the cab. So any other solutions would be appreciated.
6.
I don't use any top end so it's not an issue. Maybe taking something to tilt your cab back on to would be more convenient? I think Markbass do some folding wedge thing.
I thought about the tilt-back but I feel more comfortable with the cabs raised.
7. Been thinking about the in-ear monitor route. Mmmm....
8.
I will indeed. How's the G string? I only ask as I've had to knock the pole pices down on my sub to get a better signal from the G.
I haven't noticed a problem, but I haven't played it much. I'll check it out again but I think it's OK. I hope to sell it before, but if not, I see you're in London and I'm playing The Pigalle there in May if you want a peek at it. <shameless gig plug over>
9. Due to my hearing impairment from years of gigging, I need to have my cabs at ear height or I just can't hear any top end. I find that virtually all the venues we play at don't have beer crates any more. I struggle to find something suitable. Someone lent me a portable lightweight camping table to try. It was spot on height-wise, but a little too flimsy, even for my ultra-light Markbass rig. Anyone else have this problem and has managed to solve it?
10.
And me. If I sell the DD it will be about £700 ish but I've not really thought about it yet. I've had a few PMs from people but ive not decieded yet. I recently got a fralin for it so that was another £140. I'm not really sure if a SR would work instead of my DD yet. I've done a couple of gigs with the sub and it's working well but I think I should do a few more before I make a decision. Its not so much the tone, its the neck im worried about. I find the Sub neck to be ok but the DD neck is fantastic.
No probs. Give it some thought.
11.
Well she is vintage and very road worn ;-) Im almost tempted to sell my Duck Dunn for this. I dont think it will hang around long enough for me to get my lazy ass in gear though. Good luck with it
She sounds like me How much are you looking for the Duck Dunn?
12. Great player, always liked him...although I reckon quite a few people will draw comparisons with VW for his slap style.
13.
i dont suppose you would do a trade for my mum would you lol. This is such a nice bass. wish i had the money.
I wouldn't rule it out.
14. A Mother's Day bump up for this little beauty.
15. Seems all great to me.
16. I would definitely keep it but the bank account says 'No'.
17. I have acquired this lovely Stingray 4, dark blue metallic finish, 2-band EQ, rosewood fingerboard. It's immaculate, with a little wear on the scratchplate where the thumb would rest. The body and neck are completely unmarked. Original hard case has a little bit of scuffing. I would keep it, but I've just bought the Fender Jazz. I'm looking £750, no offers. This is a good price for its condition. I can arrange delivery via Interlink, if needed. 18. 'I've Been Waiting' is amazing.
19. Just realised who you are, Mike. Hope you value my opinion.
20. Honest opinion? Amazing technique and very clever - I couldn't even come close to it - but tedious after the first few bars. Just my opinion, folks. I like a groove. Careful how you throw those eggs.
21.
one of these was up for sale on here recently. It went. Same to see it go to a charity shop! I've got a S D Curlee licensed by Hondo - nice little bass. not worth much, but I'd never part with it. Ever. Had it professionally set up a little while ago & was thinking about changing the p/ups. The luthier said dont, they're pretty good.. So it is as it is!
SD Curlee, as does Hondo, brings back fond memories - along with Columbus (my first 'proper' bass, a Jazz copy), Antoria, Jedson, Gherson, and many more. And if I'm not mistaken, did Woolworths have a brand called Winfield? Pass me that Werthers, dear.
22. I thought those old motorcycles were collectable.
23. The bass part is simple but effective. I've heard many a bassist overplay on that song. Just doesn't need it.
24.
Your ears do not deceive you. Sparko (Dr Feelgood) played almost exclusively with a pick, as did many of the blues rockers of the time.
Thank you, Mr Delvar.
25.
Doing a blues gig with a pick...?????? nope couldn't go that far? or even do it anyway.. might be an exercise in double thumping but even then...??
When I was listening to the songs, most of them sounded like they were played with a pick. I haven't used one for over 30 years. About 3 songs in, my hand became really painful, so I had to ditch it. Pity, as the sound was spot on.
