1. Amazing. One of the best posts ever.
2.
Some years ago, I made that kind of journey, but in the reverse direction. Depped in a jazz band for one gig. Hideous train-wreck, bodies everywhere, strong men weeping, etc.
3.
Oooh love that stuff. Were you Norm for the night? Did you wear fake eye bags? I dep a bit and really like the different ones though the work needed can be a bit daunting and drives the family a bit bonkers sometimes
I played most of the set with a pick to get the right sound (something I've never done before) and my hand seized up after a couple of numbers.
4. She's one of the greatest groove players on the planet. Who's the bassist at the Glastonbury gig?
5.
I sent a Pm to him and he replied with _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Does that mean it is not available? I have no idea?
Sorry! Was on a gig last night and tried to reply via my phone. Obviously didn't work. PM reply sent.
6. I used to own one of these amps. Incredible sound!
7. I stood in with my mate's band last night, a charity event at a local pub. One hour set consisting of Dr Feelgood covers and other blues-rock numbers. Great fun, and as far as you can get from my usual gig. Made a nice change, and I got to play my new 79 Jazz, to boot.
8. Do you think he'll be doing any other clinics in the UK?
9. E/H Knockout. Never used. Boxed. £30 delivered.
10. ABM is their pro range - better components, speakers, construction, etc. MAG stuff sounds great for the price and if you're on a tighter budget, though.
11. I really like the song. Very tight playing. You play exactly what's needed. No overplaying...perfect. Good luck with it - it's a great track
12. Usually anything scuffed, scratched, or has been knocking around the shop for ages and needs to go. The shop should automatically discount it.
13. The more I concentrate, the more mistakes I make. Relaxing is the key.
14.
You really do have some gorgeous basses Pete! Here's wishing for a long and happy relationship
I actually now only own two basses - the Jazz and the Roscoe. I think it's because I've worked around them so long, I've become de-sensitised. I just don't get sentimental about instruments. But I can appreciate how much players can become attached to their basses.
15. I'm hanging onto this one.
16. On Monday I took delivery of the '79 Jazz which was for sale on here last week. Wow...what a great bass! Great condition for it'd age, original case, tags, and covers. The sound is pure Marcus and Jaco. Plays like a dream, thanks to Boss Hogs' pro setup. Exactly what I've been looking for over the years. And Boss Hog (alias Mick) is a great guy to deal with. I'm a very happy chappy, and it's making its debut at a stand-in R&B (not the namby-pamby current Craig David-style bollocks, but the Dr Feelgood-style stuff) gig this Thursday. I think Doddy will also vouch for its wonderfulness.
17. I use an LMK with my Roscoe, on which I boost the active controls quite high. I have both channels on at once and my volumes are set at approx number 2, inc the master. The blue light comes on occasionally, but I ignore it, as there's masses of headroom. However, if it's on all the time, there could be a problem, but it's doubtful. If you're concerned I have an email address for one of their customer service guys. Very helpful.
18.
I USED to run a bass specialist shop (now retired) and it didn't take long to discover what the average customer seemed to want:- Something for nothing (and they'd still complain). Actually I'm not as bitter as that may sound, I made some great friends in the 15 or so years I had the shop - still got most of them! Must be hard going now with the internet and forums like this moving so much gear that would normally go through shops. Respect to anyone still in the game.
The internet rules as far as retail goes. People gen up on gear and are savvy about prices etc. If you can't beat 'em...
19.
Don't need another team member do ya?
Sorry mate, not at the mo, but a CV wouldn't go amiss.
20. I've been in music retail for almost 30 years. I worked in small independent shops for about 25 of them, then worked for the now defunct Academy of Sound and then Sound Control. The way SC worked forced me out of retail. The business has changed immensely over the years, but I couldn't handle SC's ridiculously unnattainable targets. Plus I couldn't get off early enough to get to long-distance gigs. Stupid, considering they needed to employ musicians. After a two-year stint working for an entertainment agency, which I loved, I was made redundant and now work at the old SC store in Hanley, which is now totally independent and is again The Academy Of Sound. I like the fact that we do P/X and get some nice gear coming through. Apart from the Markbass stuff, The Ashdown BTA 400 rig is probably the most impressive piece of kit I've seen and heard in a while.
21. There's nothing more we can do. Turn off the life support. Call a priest.
22. I used to have this album...brilliant! Lent it to a drummer. Never seen it since. Typical.
23.
Is the cat thrown in too?
Not for a million pounds...he's priceless!
