Woodenshirt pointed out it would look better with neck binding, and I have to agree.

Haven't tried the new ones, but anything Tokai make is bound to be good. The 80s ones are sublime.

Reminds me of that old chestnut: What's the difference between a drummer and a bass player? About half a beat.
-
Taking in a few bars sometimes helps, too. Especially in Leek.

I've always locked with the bass drum. However, one drummer advised me to listen to the hi-hat instead. He was dead right. That's where the groove is.

I've just played the new 50th Anniversary Jazz. Looks gorgeous and plays like a dream. A real vintage tone, too. Winner.
Welcome to BC. When you see your first one, you could post in 'Reviews' under Miscellaneous http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=17. Notwithstanding the old codgers' scrap that occurred with Silddx (those Zimmers can be lethal in the right hands), I don't think anyone's having a pop at Pete in particular. He started this thread with humourous intentions, but the fall-out from the others hadn't really settled, so this one was doomed to controversy from the outset. Basically, some people don't like certain postings - and I'm thinking particularly of the earlier -I.L.F threads. Objectors may be motivated by issues of personal credential, by aesthetic distaste or by concerns about exclusion. Either way, such threads are a divisive, hot-button topic and often lead to bad feeling and conflict. For that reason alone, the Mods often shut them down. They enforce the rules we all sign up to when we join. Members might counter that this is all in good fun and that one shouldn't be so sensitive. Nevertheless the mods have posted that some female members don't enjoy the presence of such topics. I'm aware of no reason to disbelieve them. We're a community; as in real life, that involves respecting the feelings of others, even if it means we have to forgo certain pleasures. So why upset another member simply to assuage one's own preferences? It's just good manners. Most of us can accept this trade-off, but a few would prefer to make an issue of it.They complain about 'free speech' and 'Political Correctness', attack other members and bitch about the mods, who do an excellent job for no reward. To what end? To get their own way at the expense of other members? The 'right' to post a few images? So they can shout "No - I'm Spartacus!" IMO, the marginal benefit of such threads to a minority is less important than the detrimental effect on the whole. It's a numbers game and they're on the losing end of it. How do I feel about these threads? Personally, I'm unoffended but I recognise the potential for a negative outcome. As to the motivation for posting such threads, well, that intrigues me. Issues of personal credential? Aesthetic pleasure? Concerns about exclusion?
Very good points, as usual, Mr Delvar. Or may I call you Skank, as I'm now a Very Advanced Member? I fully understand the admins' responsibilty and what a hard job it must be to police this forum efficiently. I never doubted that. Just a bit of schoolboy humour. Sorry if the thread offended anyone. I was smacked and sent to bed with no supper and just my tattered copy of Viz to read.
Ultimately, the moderators control all and can decide which threads stay or go. Moral perspectives are subjective. But I do get the impression some are going a bit far with trying to show their 'right on' credentials. For me, there's been no harm in any of it. No abuse, porn or debasement. Just a bunch of musicians bantering and indulging in a bit of bawdy humour in an off topic forum. Like a lot of films or tv programmes: if you don't like it, don't watch it.
That's exactly what I thought.
Ask yourselves a simple question... how far would any of this sh*t have got on Talkbass.com? You think it's overly-PC here, that people jump at nothing and have no, ahem, 'sense of humour' here? Try a MILF thread over there and see what happens.
Siddx wasn't happy with my thread. A couple of PM's have rectified the situation. For the record, I'm not sexist in any way. I thought the MILF thread was harmless, and I'm entitled to an opinion. My own thread was a joke, but if people didn't find it funny, then fair enough. That's my sense of humour. But to be humiliated with a warning was a bit harsh. As for TalkBass?...well, you're talking about a country that overreacted unbelievably over Janet Jackson exposing a breast for a few seconds. A bunch of hypocrites. Anyway, back to my copy of The Sport...
I think it is the lack of respect that some have for the people that give up their free time to make this forum available in the first place that saddens me the most.
Care to explain?
Can I at least be shortlisted?
I'm sure you can. Be careful not to display a sense of humour, though. You can get an official warning for that.
