1.
PSA 240, not 230.
Sorry, you've been overcharged there. The PSA240 is the old model, which was never more than about twenty quid.
2. Was that power supply a Boss PSA-230? We sell them for about twenty quid.
3. I'll forward the questions to the seller.
4. I'm not a DB player but I used to sell Stentor violins a few years ago in another shop. Cracking quality.
5. Did you get some pics of the Warrior? I've always been intrigued by these basses and how they sound in the flesh.
6. When I first bought my Tobias Classic 5, I settled for whatever was available. It had a Lacewood top, alder back, and a wenge sandwich plate. I bought it because our guitar player (who's also a bassist) had one. His was a bubinga top and walnut back. My bass had a distinctive back pickup sound, like Jaco's. I tried my mate's in a gig situation and couldn't get that back pickup burp. However, the bass end with his Tobias was far warmer than mine. A couple of years later another mate bought one with quilt maple top and walnut back. I gigged that one and the sound was smack in the middle. So, IMO, the type of wood makes a difference. Obviously, it's in the fingers, but choosing the right wood is a starting point for your ideal sound.
7. Love this. Completely sums up the thread topic.
8. 'East River' by the Brecker Brothers. Truly awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7l1zjp_wb4
9. A little bump
10. A family friend has asked if I would try to sell his Rickenbacker 4001 for him. Serial number 6299, October 1974. Jetglow finish. The neck paintwork is fairly worn at the top, and there's a crack in the scratchplate. Other than that, all original. No checkerboard binding. I'm trying to get pics uploaded but having trouble. Hope to rectify this soon. He's looking for around £1700. 11.
Yes, Victor is hugely misunderstood, which is perhaps the greatest shame. Because he is not just the flash and the tricks everyone sees, he is IMO the most talented bassist around not just in terms of technique but in terms of musicality and personality. The guy can play anything he turns his hand to and when he does, you will always know it is Victor. He is also very humble, and always talks up other players and how they are better than him in some way, when even their most ardent fan would be hard pressed to argue Victor's point. Not only that, but he an groove harder than anyone. He has so much funk in him. Even the old skool groovers like Jamerson, Jackson, Graham etc etc...none of them can groove like Wooten can! Wooten is not my favourite bassist, despite the fact I really dig his stuff. But whether I liked his music or not, I couldn't argue that he wasn't a f****** fantastic musician who is light years ahead of pretty much everyone else these days except the fusion elite!
Damn, you got me started again! Yep, I think that sums him up...misunderstood. But I suppose we're all guilty of that in most respects.
12.
Greg Phililinganes plays the part on synth as well,so I'm guessing that it was probably a written line.
It definitely sounds 'written'.
13. Brilliant! And I'm just strapping on my old 83 Steinberger again.
14. (is it Will Lee?) Edit: Shara5string was right, it was allways going to get nasty was this....... ... no popcorn left?
It was Will Lee. I think Bilbo posted a transcription last year.
15.
Well I would like to add something else to my VW comments please.. I always liked the Golf but thought the Scirocco 'overstated' Now I'm definetly done too... Please erase my memory!!
19.
Bristol is driveable (1 hour), we're a bit further south in Dorset, but travel for a good show wherever.
We're at The Metropolis in Bristol on Thursday the 28th of this month. First ever gig there.
20.
saw nearly dan on friday. quite a good turnout considering the weather. not gonna do a critique but really enjoyed it. great performance, really laid back. just brilliant. if you get the chance, make the effort and see this band. well worth the 2 hour drive
Thanks for that. Really appreciate you travelling so far. It was our first gig of 2010 and we were pleased, especially with the new setlist.

23. Nearly Dan are playing the Jazz Cafe in Camden, London next Sunday 17 January. We are proud to feature in our brass section, James Knight, one the UK's finest sax players. Aja, Caves Of Altamira, Babylon Sisters, Cousin Dupree, and Bad Sneakers back in the set, plus new songs Brooklyn and Only A Fool Would Say That.
24. An elderly-ish chap came into our shop and was browsing the books. He handed me a little piece of paper, on which he'd drawn a diagram of the back panel of a Marshall AS50D acoustic combo. He hadn't a clue what the inputs and outputs did. Turned out he'd bought it from a little shop a few miles down the road. He'd paid full money for it and they told him it was brand new. As far as I know they are not an official Marshall stockist. I could have told him to go back to the store, but I showed him what everything did by showing him one we had in stock. Turns out they hadn't given him a manual and told him he needed to find one himself. I printed a manual off for him and said he needed to go back to the shop and claim a 3-year warranty for which he was entitled. The problem is, if they aren't an official dealer, the poor chap won't get this. He was pleased with my help and spent £100 with us. I don't know how shops can do that, especially to obviously naive folk.
