1.
STOP PRESS: I tried the Fender Bassman TV 2x10 one today. My initial thought was they need dirtying up cosmetically. Not a problem though - once the amp has done a couple of hot sweaty gigs that tweed won't look quite so fresh. I was surprised with how clean they looked though. Weight wise, it is a weighty beast as I'm sure people would expect. Now I've been excited about these so had high hopes. The reality is that they are good. Not great and possible not worth the money but good. I like the Fender tone where you can control the level of grit & bite with a volume and then set the master volume accordingly. I played around with the settings and (as with most tube amps) it sounded best cranked a little. I was in the sterile enviroment that was a virtually empty Dawsons so I can't confess the tubes had warmed up but it was easy enough to get a good tone. The problem was I'm also able to get good tones out of combos with much easier portability. I'd like one but at that price (for a combo) I'd probably be saving my money. I'm still curious about the 1x10 though.
The 1 x 10" has a surprising amount of bass end. However, the 1 x 12" isn't that much more expensive.
 2.
Ed posted a clip of Loius Johnson doing his thing with George Duke and his solo ends up with him burstng the strings, the post was titled, look what happens when you let your drummer loose on bass, or something.
I've got that concert on DVD. Still as clear as mud, though. Did someone get upset?
 3.
presumably you missed the original post. Never mind, it's just stupid.
Post a link.
 4.
Well i just thought it was funny the way he's usually a drummer and he basically murdered a bass doing a slap solo lol.
Sorry mate, but who?
 5.
well according to the bloke off drummerworld, he was a drumer or something. Ahh whatever.
Care to explain?
 6. Just play what the song needs.
 7.
I can't seem to open this. Any ideas? I'm getting a little icon in the far left hand corner.
What song is it?
 8. Those are ridiculously good prices for hand-built instruments.
 9.
Apologies if this has been posted already, but I always liked this:
I can't seem to open this. Any ideas? I'm getting a little icon in the far left hand corner.
 10. This is an old school jazz-funk tune. The sound is unusual and in-your-face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdsnbkg2bmM
 11. Pino's sound is sublime.
 12.
That, my friend, is just. not. fair. Lucky man!!
50th birthday prezzie to myself.

 15. Cue a certain member who will disagree with me. Yes, you know who you are.
 16. Jam nights...aaarrrgghh!!! My advice is to keep well away. It's always a 12-bar, or Johnny B. Goode, or a Stones song, etc, etc. An excuse for a guitarist to show off. I HATE blues songs where the guitarist insists on soloing for ever and ever. And don't get me started on crap drummers.
 17.
The Elixirs on my Wal are over 3 years old and still have a lot of bite in them. I like! D.
3 years???!!!
 18. Reminds me of that famous bassist...Stanley Clank.
 19. Should be a DVD of it coming out soon.
 20. There's a a composer called Karl Scheit. Pronounced sh*te, I think. Unfortunate.
 21. I see young bass players every day and they can slap and play ultra fast. Try playing your bass parts at a slower tempo...you might find it quite difficult, but it will improve your playing no end.
 22.
im 15 and been playing bass for nearly 2 years, i can play pretty fast as well as slap and tap also am pretty good at theory i know i can just keep improving getting more fast/accurate but id like to explore other things any suggestions :):)
Play slow. You will eventually find it more rewarding in all respects.
 23. Giuseppe Verdi...plain old Joe Green.
 24. I'm reckon I'm a competent enough player with a good ear. Being unable to read hasn't affected my playing career very much, but I admit I have lost jobs by not being able to do so...jazz gigs, etc. Also, I did some teaching in the past and while I could show someone technique and cover tunes, whenever I was asked a theory-based question, I was stumped. I thought it was unfair to the pupil to carry on.
 25.
Julius is playing drums...which was Jaco's first instrument AFAIK, until he broke his arm.
Ah.
