1. Fantastic stuff again, Andy. You are indeed the Basschat Guru Of Funk.
2. If we're talking about discipline, then it's slap, as you have to suppress the urge to overplay.
3. Suck my bottom lip.
4. f*** me...how much are these pedals going to go up? These prices are getting ridiculous. I appreciate you are basing these prices on current Ebay listings, but I doubt you'll get that. Good luck, anyway.
5. If it's the same Barry Johnson, which I think it is, he features on the the album called 'Nard', and is amazing. Marcus produced this album. A must-have classic for bass players.
6. Thanks Andy! This guy deserves more praise.
7. He's an amazing player.
8. I'm not sure how many of you have seen the Incognito 30th Anniversary DVD, but I would highly recommend it. You will not hear any better musicianship. The keyboard player is jaw-droppingly good. The bassist, Francis Hylton, has to be the best unknown I've ever heard. Phenomenal. And there's a guest appearance by Randy Hope-Taylor. It doesn't get any better than this. I urge you to check this out.
9. Anything by Mark Adams of Slave.
10.
<Ped> Oi! Academy! I've warned you! </Ped>
What?
11. Being in a 10-piece band and playing small stages, I have barely enough room to swing a cat. I therefore use a 3 metre cable.
12. Great post, Mike. In my opinion, Victor is without doubt the world's best bass player. His technique is flawless; his groove is impeccable; his tone is awesome; he's a also a great showman.
13. So, reading music does have its advantages.
14. Doddy leaves tomorrow for LA, where he will be playing on the cruise ship Golden Princess, travelling to Hawaii, for four months.
15. Does this only work if your cabs are on the floor?
16. In retrospect, the switch probably sent a subliminal message to the crowd, telling them that if they clapped, this clown would eventually f*** off.
17. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Sold_Gallery_files/Pete%20Roscoe.JPG Roscoe SKB5.
18. A quick bump up for this gig.
19.
Very bad form not to clap in my view. Even if I don't like a band, it takes a lot of effort and courage to step on stage which deserves respect and a bit of a clap. It is upsetting when people don't applaude your performance. Keep going, there will always be some people who don't appreciate what you/we do as musicians What did the switch do?
Haven't a clue.
20.
Ah yes, that'll be the switch that brought a projector into play displaying a scantily-clap super model on the backdrop
21. A few years ago a customer came into our shop and said he'd had his PA amp modified by an electronics guy. He had a switch fitted, and he said before that nobody ever applauded his performance. However, when he flicked the switch, the audience clapped every time. True story.
22. Thanks again Andy for posting more amazing stuff. My only (extremely slight) bugbear with James Brown's live stuff is the tempos being much faster than the originals. Sex Machine is one of my favourite all-time tracks, but it just doesn't work for me at the live tempo.
23. Lovely stuff.
24. An interesting year. Fewer gigs, but well attended on the whole. We have spent £1500 on national newspaper advertising, which seems to have helped. It seems that people still want to see live music, but the venues need to promote it properly.
