I would say one of the hardest basslines ever is 'Sex Machine'. That was Bootsy at his finest. Despite comprising a few notes, it's extremely hard to pin down the feel and groove. Some bass parts are complicated, but once you learn the notes they are quite easy to play. The hardest ones are those that have an amazing feel, such as Jamerson's and Stevie Wonder's synth bass lines. I would say the hardest one that combine's everything is Chuck Rainey's 'Kid Charlemagne' part.

First post in this thread. We played a gig this afternoon to about 120 people in a venue that holds about 500 people. The sound on stage was amazing. My own personal sound was great. The band played great. Absolute winner. I would rather play to less people and have a great sound.

A shameless bump in case anyone's near Nantwich today.

'Sex Machine' is simple but really get right. A lot of bass parts are easy but the feel is difficult. 'Brick House', 'Somebody Else's Guy', anything by Chic, 'Rhythm Stick', 'Wicki Wacki' and 'Bus Stop' by the Fatback Band.

I didn't post this to piss off the anti-Victor crowd. It's just a video demonstrating his awesome talent.

I don't think it's too bad. A case of a female being asked to sing male vocal tunes. I would change the set to a totally female-vocal one.

Their 'That's The Way Of The World' album, along with the AWB's 'White' album, shaped my bass upbringing. I played those albums to death. Verdine's part on 'Shining Star' is probably one of the most innovative ever. However, seeing some videos of EWF in concert, I'm not sure Verdine is actually playing the parts. In fact, there is so much post-production that I'm put off, and can't bear to go and watch them live these days,. There is a DVD where they're playing a TV gig and the viewers are phoning through requests (something like EWF By Request). It's extremely overdubbed.

Nearly Dan play at Nantwich Civic Hall this coming bank holiday Monday as part of the annual jazz and blues festival. On stage 2pm.

That riff is more about the feel than anything. It's quite tricky.

I'm well late on this thread. I thought it was about guitarists. I don't read music, but sometimes wish I could. I honestly think being able to keep time and being able to groove is more important if you're a bass player.
