1. So would you simply retire to your bedroom?
2. If something happened where you couldn't get paid for gigs, would you carry on playing for nothing, just for the sheer enjoyment? When I was young I definitely would, but I'm not sure now. I know a lot of bands do play for no fee anyway. Any thoughts?
3. Good post, Nige. A mate of mine recently fitted an East preamp to his Classic Vibe Jazz and the result was awesome. I'm sorely tempted with my 79 Jazz.

Nearly Dan

Nearly Dan play The Fiddlers Club in Bristol, Saturday February 26.
5. 'Ain't Nobody' is bloody hard to play properly. Anyone tried it?
6. I've played that venue. It's great, but sadly a bit too far away for me. Hope it all goes well.
7. Has anyone got or heard the Yellowjackets first album featuring Jimmy Haslip? Released in the 80s, it's essential listening for anyone into jazz/funk/fusion. Every track is amazing. Jimmy Haslip's playing is sublime. Well worth checking out.
8. Get that into Funk and Groove now!
9. I was plodding along quite nicely, then I discovered School Days. Unbelievable.
10. For the active version that's an absolute bargain. Great bass.
11. Before Nearly Dan, we were a five-piece covers band. We chose to do songs that nobody else was doing. Apart from a fair few Steely Dan songs, we did Chris Rea, Robben Ford, AWB, Was Not Was, Go West, Paul Simon, Sting, etc. It went down really well in the local pubs, but we did a wedding and it bombed. It all depends on the gigs and venues you are planning to do. But i reckon if you play something well and with obvious conviction, you will always win the majority of the audience over.
12. First Bass Owned: Vox something or other. 'Go To' Bass: Fender Jazz 'Your' Bass: Roscoe SKB5
13.
Had never heard of Trip Wamsley - have now !!!! Impressive to say the least and entertaining into the bargain. Thanks Dave
sh*t...Trip Walmsley is amazing!
14.
If you want something a little different, I caught Ralf Gauck at Bass Day and he did a series of arrangements of well known pop tunes on solo bass, mostly Beatles, but some Police too. Nice bloke too: This is probably more of what you're after. He has some CD's out too.
Awesome.
15.
Another track.. It's quite upbeat and only a couple of mins long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAz0_cKzcfs...be_gdata_player
I really like these tracks. Great playing.
16. Loved those tracks, Great, tight playing.
17. Good effort.
18. I love those low end notes, but I still love my four-string Jazz.
19. Could have been worse.
20.
Hows about this from the incomparable 'Nard album
An essential album for any bass player into funk.
21.
Britney Spears http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l54O1CkcsY Nice slap riff, I think it sounds good on pop records
Great riff and old school sound.
22. I reckon slap bass is making a comeback. MK is polishing his thumb, as we speak.
23.
Haha did anyone see the picture of her in the morning, minus make up? Snapped by her darling husband Russell Brand too!
Defo no 'slap' on there.
24. This song by Katie Perry is incredibly catchy, features a ridiculously auto-tuned vocal, and a crap rap in the middle by Snoop Dogg. It epitomises the state of pop music in this day and age. But it also features a slap bass part. Could this be the return of slap? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jTdXPenx_8&feature=fvst
25.
Funnily enough I've just been listening to her covers of Bill Withers 'Who Is He' and Marvin Gaye's 'Make Me Wanna Holler' - absolutely solid versions with killer bass groove and a tone to die for. There's some amazing youtube videos of her live that just absolutely kill!
She's very underrated IMO.
