I reckon every bassist has gone through this. We are there to support the band, and most importantly, the song. The song is king. It requires a lot of discipline.
It's what you don't play.
I can play slap bass, but over the last couple of years I've toyed with double thumbing. I'd really like to learn it, but can't seem to stick to a lengthy practise regime. I just keep thinking: 'Is it really necessary?' Maybe I'm just a bit long in the tooth.
Anyone else found this when attempting to master a new technique?
Very late to this thread. The slap bass vid shows someone with a decent technique, but has no concept of time. Totally amateurish, and reminds me of many players that become over-confident.
Why apologise?? The man is showing us the way forward - doing what Stanley and Markus have been doing since the 80s and pushing at the boundaries of bass playing. If you get the chance get to one of the Hartke seminars - we saw him at Digital Village last year - inspirational!! Anybody looking for a new bible - get a copy of "The Bass Lesson" by Mr Wooten. Looking for "must have" listening - "Thunder" by SMV. Probably preaching to the converted...
I gather the forum is divided where Vic is concerned.
Sorry to bring him up again, but this clip shows Victor on tour with his drummer, JD Blair, doing a solo show.
This is just amazing playing.

HAHAHAHA! I hadn't seen the vids until ten minutes ago. This is my favourite so far.

It would make me interested to come and see you if you were not too far away
Maybe I'm wrong then.
Can we see it Pete?
Quite a few on YT. Maybe I'm being harsh...initial reactions and all that. The OP was asking if anyone likes insolicited vids of their band/performances.
I think the problem with bass is that it just doesn't get represented on a cheap recording.
Ask them to take it down if you're not happy about it.
Only just seen it. I think we will.
Someone filmed us at a gig a couple of weeks ago and decided to post the clips on Youtube. The quality is awful. It doesn't represent us live whatsoever.
Having live footage of your band on YouTube is obviously good publicity and a good showcase. But do you think if the quality of recording is bad, it can have the opposite effect and put people off?
