4.
gotta listen to more of the new Driza Bone...this is still fantastic though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeVYCxDEX3E
Played this track with a funk band as a wedding first dance request. Love it.
 5. Another of his tracks. Brilliant, but would like to hear real bass, though.
 6. Fantastic. Great old school sound.
 7.
As a Peavey Cirrus player I was doing a bit of internet searching for like minded players and came across this amazing chick that plays a 5 like mine - except a lot better than I do. Looks a lot better too. Dammit! Check it out.
Where is she?
 8. Bernard Edwards.

 11. I think most of the Michael Jackson hits are recognisable: Billie Jean Thriller Don't Stop... Bad Smooth Criminal Bass Guitar Magazine did a 'best bass line' poll. One of the writers said that he was teaching a young lad to play bass and was showing him the line to 'Peaches'. Both the lad and his mum recognised it instantly. This was what prompted the thread.
 12.
Not at all. I'm not a critic of any of your threads. Keep posting as many as you like. I was not criticising the thread just some of the responses. My point is that the thread quickly descended into lists of "my favourite bass line".
Fair enough, and fair point.
 13.
We should change the thread to "avatars that everyone recognises"... I think we all love yours pete:P
14.
+1 What a strange thread. Most of these posts are just fantasy! Very few people who are not musicians would associate a line of music to a bass! To Joe Public it's just a song. They don't deconstruct a song they just listen to the whole.
Yet again, a perfectly obvious and harmless thread gets criticised. I fully understand it's a generation thing, but I was just asking people to name a song that people would recognise instantly by the bassline alone. ie. Peaches. Judging by the responses there seems to be a lot of songs that are instantly recognisable.
 15.
I wouldn't say people would know 'Word Up'. Maybe 'I want you back'? Then again, maybe not.
Yep. That bassline is the song.
 16. It proves how important the bass part is to people recognising the song.
 17.
I think you are way over-rating the ability of the so-called 'man in the street' to recognise a bass line.
Not necessarily.
 18.
Who are Cameo, I've never heard of them.
19. Jacksons. 'Shake Your Body' Stevie Wonder. 'I Wish'
 20.
Come together (Beatles) Love Cats (Cure) Word up (Cameo) Can't think of anymore right now but I bet there is loads
Good call.
 21.
Under Pressure, Queen and David Bowie.
Yep again.
 22.
Walking on the moon.
Yep
 23.
Nah. I wouldn't even know it. Obvious choices- 'Stand by Me' and 'Gimme some Loving'.
Definitely. Also 'Everybody Needs Somebody' and 'Green Onions'.
 24. I would say 'Soul Limbo', the cricket theme.
