2. Is anyone offended by Christina Hendricks?
3.
Carl Thompson basses are already really expensive! Very rare too, given the size of Carl's operation, apparently he makes approximately 10 a year! I don't think even think Carl is making instruments now, last I hear a couple of years ago was that he was completing his order book and taking repair and refurb work on basses he had already made. They all seem to circulate in America too and I've not seen one for sale in this country for ages. Alembics, as mentioned, will just hold their value. Some of them have been sold for "giveaway" prices but they are what they are: beautifully finished handmade instruments. There are plenty around too, which is encouraging. If I had a 4 string series I or II I'd be happy man!
I would be the first to say Alembic. However, I used to own a 20th Anniversary model, one of only 200 worldwide, but looking at current prices, this instrument hasn't really appreciated in value very much. I'm biased, but I'd go with Roscoe. Truly hand built. And early pre-Gibson Tobias, too.
4. He's commited to Ashdown. That was probably a stage rig he used for convenience. This has happened at the odd European gig before.
5. Awesome band, awesone tracks! The best thing is how much they are enjoying it. The bass playing is ace.
6. Good post, Nigel. I recently posted a thread about our band going to Ireland for two gigs and the amount of effort involved for just 4 hours of actual playing. People don't always realise the amount of effort involved for a relatively short amount of performing, especially the rehearsals that have taken place beforehand. But when it stops becomg enjoyable, that's maybe the time to take a break. I agree with most of the posters - the audience appreciation makes it all worthwhile.
7. Both these clips are great. However, I think Meshell is unbeatable when it comes to groove. She plays everything from the heart.
8. Fantastic clip. Genius bass part.
9. He's an awesome player but he sounds a tad too much like VW for my liking. I'm sure he's got his own style and licks in there somewhere.
10. I read an article in BP magazine some time ago, where the player said that the groove you play has an hypnotic effect on the audience. I think this is true. To me, it's all about the groove, and the groove is what keeps the audience's attention. If you lose that, you're not doing your job. The song is the most important thing, regardless of what you play, and how much you improvise. The song is king. You have to make the singer and the song sound as good as possible.
11. It's all about the song.
12. Rhonda is such a great player.
13.
Late to the party pete!
As usual.
14. Jay Leno show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vITKFi2W_o
15. I like his playing.
16. I think, like most artists, Jamiroquai reached their peak years ago.
17. Good, but nothing new.
18. Lovely stuff, Jake. Nice bass, too.
19. Just watched a bit. Can't wait to see the whole thing,.
20. In full 'hamster cheeks' mode.
21. I've nothing to add to this thread except my avatar.
22. Nearly Dan...no groupies. Speaks volumes.
23. After the gig I've actually had someone ask me what I thought of the band.
24. I posted a thread about who gets groupies many moons ago. It would seem bass players don't score too often. I actually like a good chat about gear and stuff after the gig.
25.
It's like this Singer: hot chicks "can I have your number/a shag" Guitarist: musicians "love your slide playing mate" Drummer: slightly less hot chicks "the singer's not interested but you can shag me if you want" Bass: soundguy "love that rig, my mate Dave plays Mesa Boogie" Never varies C
Spot on.
