1.
Really...?? Marcus Miller. Anthony Jackson..apart from the rock star bit. I'd say Jimmy Haslip is instantly recognisable...or as far as SL would be. Abe Laboriel The first two are definitive, IMO... Jeff Berlin Tony Levin Love Lukather's playing as well.
I see what you mean, but Toto were a much more mainstream act.
2. Steve Lukather. Great player, own sound and style, rock star, played on some of the greatest records around, member of Toto, legendary band. I can't seem to think of a bass equivalent.
3. My Jazz came fitted with DR Fat Beams. I played them to death and replaced them with a set of Rotosound Nickels. Sounded and played totally different. Put a set a set of DRs on and it's back to it's former glory. Don't diss the strings. They can make all the difference.
4. I hear Walter Trout, Robert Crayfish, Salmon Dave, and James Brown, the Codfather of Sole, have all shopped there.
5.
If this is true, I am in shock!
Opportunists or what?
6. It's nice to be instantly recognised for your style and sound, but I don't think Nathan East is complaining.
7. The Porcaros haven't had much luck.
8.
OK, if we're talking real magic lamp fantasy stuff... I'd like a 5 string fretted bass that could be made fretless at the flick of a switch, with Delanos and an East eq plus the innards from a Line6 Variax bass.
Your wish is his command, Rich. 11. I used to own a VB400. Best sound I ever had, but it was just far too heavy.
12. Just one...only one.
13. You find the lamp, rub it, the genie appears and grants one bass wish. A custom-built Alembic or Ritter for me.
14. sh*t, I wish I'd never seen this thread.
15. Even if you don't like the album, it's still a great study in creating the perfect bass part for a song. Not a note is wasted.
16. It's hard to choose a favourite track, but from a bass player's point, Marcus's part on the title track is sublime. The way he tackles the amount of chord changes is both interesting and groove-laden. One of his finest moments.

18. This is supposed to be £899 RRP. http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/4547...-king-head.html
19. It's interesting to see Fagen using Marcus Miller on the less funkier tracks. But on reflection, the title track suits him perfectly. It's probably my favourite song.
20. Does anyone else think this should have been included in the 'Classic Album' series? Every track is a masterpiece, and the album features arguably the best bassists on the planet.
21. Probably one of the finest funk tracks ever. Bass is simple but very effective. Guitar riff to die for. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-1d-zD2eOk
22.
Has this one already been shown ?... one of the ultimate funk tracks for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXpa0Ef25XQ
Excellent choice.
23.
The first track "Compassion" put me off, what a crap song, and the drum track sounds like it was done on a Casio Keyboard, shocking. However, by the time I'd got to "Act Of God" things were looking up, that sounded a bit more like the Prince of old. So, we'll see if it's a grower.
Exactly what me and my staffmates said.
24. I agree. Will people stop replying to this thread and let it lie?
25. For me, it's mainly dependent on the audience and how they react. Other than that, it's difficult to explain. With our band, I find it happens more if we've done a fair few gigs on the run. I think it's all about being relaxed and confident.
