The iconic BB series bass is the 1200. It was the original model in the series, and first appeared in the late 70s. If I were you I'd make a direct comparison with the 1200, and use the prices that these sell for to gauge the potential resale value of your 3000. To give you an idea, I recently purchased a 1200, in a natural finish, with original moulded case, plexi scratchplate, tools and polishing cloth, for in the region of £450. Except for some minor blemishes, and one small-ish ding to the body lacquer, that 1200 is in fantastic condition. About a year ago, I picked up another 1200, dating to '82, which had some more wear, but well below average for it's age, for circa £350.

Hi-Beams are also bright, although not as harsh as ProSteels. I found that Lo-Riders, which have a taught-ness between Hi-Beams and ProSteels, a slightly more subtle tone, but with bright slap/pop characteristics, suited active basses more. And the Lo-Rider Nickels have a more 70s tone, if you're thinking classic StingRay.

The neck, although with a resemblance to the design used on the RSB series (although the SB is 2 + 2) definitely has a chunkier feel, so even that puzzles me slightly. I’ll get a photo posted when one gets taken!

A '79 BB1200 and NE-1, and I get a fantastic range of tones. I have to say I prefer the BB2000 model for pickup configuration over the BB3000. The reverse P-pickup combined with thru-neck build gives both the BB1200 and 2000 an individual character that sets them apart from other P-basses.

Having trouble identifying a particular SB series model. Purchased by me in '88, used, the bass has an '85 serial number. Based on the weight I'm guessing that the wings are a North American ash, finished in black, with the traditional maple and rosewood five-piece centre block. Now, here's where I start to get confused: the bass is not thru-neck, but has a socketed and glued neck, with a deeper profile than than usual for an SB, and which is comprised of three sections of maple, with a dark (possibly Jacaranda) touchboard (dot, not eye/block, markers), a 40mm nut, tapering to 18mm bridge spacing. Bridge is chromed, tuning pegs are chromed, nut is brass, control pots knurled (finished gold), and pickup appears to be an MB-II. My best guess is a late issue SB 600, as it's not an SB R-60 or SB Elite-I. Anyone have any thoughts?

First strung one of my basses with DR Lo Riders earlier this year, and was sufficiently impressed that I swapped a few other basses over soon thereafter. Then, as you do, while sitting around with time on my hands, I had the crazy idea of A/B'ing Hi Beams, Lo Riders, Lo Rider Nickels and Sunbeams (all 45/65/85/105) on identical basses (Aria Pro II SB models). For me, the Lo Riders and Lo Rider Nickels felt/sounded best (although felt that I might benefit from reverting to 45/65/80/100, particularly if I were using Hi Beams). Just wondered if any other basschatters had any DR observations, particularly as to which of the sets, particularly Lo Rider or Lo Rider Nickels, they found worked best on active basses.

So the BB1500 has the same tone circuit as the TRBi. That clarifies things.

For some reason I'd assumed that the original series I TRB models were thru-neck, and that bolt-on appeared with the series II models. But a TRB I've been offered is an original series I, bolt-on. Given that, unless the circuit was altered, and with the exception of the string access recess, is there any difference between a series I and a series II 5-string?

Has any basschatter A/B'd these models, and have any thoughts/comments they could offer? Probably worth me mentioning that I own a BB1500A, which has TRB electronics (although which version of the TRB electronics I've no idea).

I've posted the first part of this in the wanted thread, but thought I might have more success here. Looking to source brass bridge saddles suitable for SB series basses. If anyone has any original 70s/80s saddles, which have not been filed for string guidance that would be ideal. Also looking to source a mini toggle/phase switch suitable for SB series basses. If anyone has an original 80s/SB Elite-I switch that would be ideal.
