1.
Not surprised there. I've only seen Chris Squire in an interview. He seemed very impressed with himself in that too.
I've heard quite a few stories about Squire from various people over the years; not one of them has been positive.
2. Saw Asia on their very first UK date at Wembly back in 1982. Something went terribly wrong with one of Geoff Downes' two(!) Fairlights at one point & it was making some horrendous noises.
3. I don't understand people taking basses to open mic nights to be honest, as they very much tend to be places for singer/songwriters to play their stuff. If I was playing any of my acoustic stuff at an open mic night the last thing I'd want is a bassist with no experience of the material being played trying to bluff their way along with it. Jam nights are a different thing altogether. In my experience all these sorts of things tend to be incredibly cliquey & as a result I tend not to bother with them anymore - spent too many evenings waiting to play whilst the organisers & their friends turn it into a big buddy club circle jerk.
4. Because it's a bassists forum I guess.
5. Saw Chris squire fall flat on his face during his solo spot on a Yes tour in Cardiff a while ago.
6. Mark King - Lovely Bloke. Tony Levin - Lovely Bloke. Pino - Lovely Bloke.
7. There is a really good piece on this topic in Tony Levin's "Beyond the Bass Clef" book.
8. If there's no trim pot on the preamp housing it must be an older model. Shouldn't damage an amp, just adjust the input gain accordingly, or wind the volume back on the bass a tad. I was using a .130 B string on my Euro 5 with no problems. Might be worth you looking at tapered low B's if it's a tight fit.
9. So the drummer & guitarist hate you, surely that's exactly how a Police tribute band should end?
10. I've bought three books over the course of 35 years playing & I've yet to look at any of them.
11. Very much depends on what you are buying as there are different rates of import duty for different things. For musical instruments you are looking at additional costs on top of the price of the instrument & shipping costs of around 23-25% (VAT, Import duty, courier handling charges).
12. What I did with all mine was sell them - so much easier now.
13. Why would the fact that he used to be a bass player mean he's not a dick? There are just a many dicks playing bass as there are playing any other instrument. He might not have had any rhythm or groove because he was a sh*t bass player before he was a sh*t guitarist. Just because he played for 15 years doesn't automatically mean he was any good at it.
14. The debut EP by a great new young Irish band called The Sour Seeds.
15. I don't really like gigging; it's the least enjoyable part of the whole music thing for me, largely because I have no desire to "entertain" people. Used to do it a lot, nowadays only very rarely.
16.
I'm sorted now ta! (See above, got myself that nice Fender.) It sounded right for me in the shop and sounds good at home too. Slowly learning and gaining a little confidence too.
Excellent! I play more acoustic guitar than anything else these days - love it!
17.
That`s what I thought - sure a courier of choice is available to the sender, but once it`s over here and passed through customs, Royal Mail/Parcelforce get it, no matter what.
No they don't - what you're saying is just wrong. I've had international parcels delivered by all manner of couriers, it's only the USPS stuff that automatically gets delivered by Parcelforce.
18.
Amazing isn`t it, "it always happens", so instead of sorting things so that it doesn`t, they try and remove the Sat option. Still, I suppose seeing as the only option - as far as I know - is Parcelforce receiving it from Customs, they have the monopoly/no competition, so no incentive to help the customer.
Of course it's not a monopoly, OFCOM won't allow that. If you have stuff sent via USPS then Parcelforce/Royal Mail will deliver in the UK. If you don't want Parcelforce to handle your stuff from the USA don't use USPS. There are plenty of other couriers operating in the UK now.
19. OK, nobody is going to get it - it's "One Live Badger" by Badger.
20.
This one?
That's the one. I wouldn't have the bridge & Pickup covers or the anodised scratchplate but the rest of it is perfect.
21.
Think the one above is shell pink
Yes it is - I was referring to the Burgundy Mist Precision that somebody posted a picture of earlier in the thread
