1. If I had a "Dream Bass" that Burgundy Mist Precision would be VERY close to it.
2. You won't do better than this for the money: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/245034-martin-dx1-electro-acoustic-solid-spruce-top-fishman-electronics-l225/
3.
I know that Ace of Bass did Wheel of Fortune. Not sure about the rest of them. Is it 'Now 27'?
A valiant attempt but no.
4. Saw Richie play an acoustic show in the 12 bar club in Denmark St. quite a few years ago. Had a good natter with him & his dad afterwards, both really nice people. (The support that night was Seasick Steve, who was absolutely f***ing terrible. I couldn't believe it when he went on to become so successful).
5. OK - I'll check in again on October 1st.
6. How long do I leave this before "The Big Reveal"?
7. As far as I know they're not the same company that made the original Orange amps. I think it was Music Ground bought up a load of the old names (Hiwatt is another example) & started churning out visually similar but inferior products featuring the name.
8.
Wind of change immediately flagged up scorpion but it's not them.
I thought it might.
9. OK, here we go: Wheel of Fortune Fountain Wind of Change River The Preacher On The Way Home
10.
OK, I will! How about Silver Shoes Don't Come Back Persephone Hometown Lady Jay FUBB
That'll be "There's the Rub" by Wishbone Ash.
11. Try some James Thurber if you've not read any. "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath is also a great laugh.
12. Just checked my iPad & it's been put on there. It's a bit cheeky really, isn't it?
13.
buy a Japanese Fender. you will never look back.
This, even though I personally don't like Jazz basses.
3 words......Lakland Darryl Jones.
Three other words.... Ugly As f***.
14. No. If I'm brutally honest with myself I wasn't born to be a musician of any kind.
15. Went for about 6 years without playing a bass at all, and still go for anything up to 6 months at a time between playing bass as I tend to concentrate pretty much exclusively on acoustic guitar, mandolin and (most recently) pedal steel guitar these days.
16. I'm no expert but the truss rod adjustment at the headstock looks a bit dubious to me for a supposed Japanese model.
17.
There's LOADS of Rock music everywhere. Too much of the stuff. Honestly.....I spent 90% of my time running away from it.
This. Sick to death of it, and I used to play in a really heavy band. I'd be happy if I never heard another loud distorted guitar again.
18. As far as I know Zon frets are epoxied into the fretboard so you might have a bit of a job getting it defretted. I certainly wouldn't have had anybody work on my Zons that hadn't had experience of working with composite necks before. I would suggest emailing Joe Zon for advice but he's not known for his promptness in replying to questions.
19.
I like the way they look, apart from the Stingray 5 and the Silhouette guitar, and I often like the way they songs on record, but every time I pick one up it just feels massively underwhelming. I had a fretless Stingray a while back which was just meh. I keep looking at Sabres because I love the look but I know I won't find it inspiring to play. A friend of mine has a Stingray 5 that he loves and also a Silhouette guitar, and I respect this guy's opinions in general, and he's very sincere about how much he likes this stuff, but I've played both these guitars and they just feel... Playmobil, to me. They feel exceptionally mass-produced to me, almost like plastic. That probably sounds weird.
That's exactly the way I've always found them; they just feel cheap & mass produced to me, not to mention big, heavy & cumbersome. The Stingray 5 I had was one of the biggest disappointments of any bass I've owned; I got it "as new" for an incredibly low price & still felt that it wasn't worth the money.
20. I'm probably in the minority but I cannot bear to listen to 95% of the music I listened to for decades, and this has been a very recent development. Most people who have known me for a long time would think of me as somebody that's really into Prog & metal stuff, but I just cannot stand it anymore. Nearly everything I listen to & love now I'd never even heard of a year ago.
21.
Oddly these pages seem to be blocked at work, will need to check out at home. Looks like there might be many happy hours of drooling to come.
Might have something to do with the word "Porn" in the title.
22. As much as I'm enjoying doing the occasional gig again (guitar, not bass) I'm very aware that I'm a lot older than the other guitarist & most of the people watching us. I feel a bit of a desperately sad old twat if I' m perfectly honest with myself.
23. Great for me personally as I did a gig a few weeks ago playing acoustic guitar & singing which I've never done before, so it was only one gig but a major milestone in my own little musical life. I was part of a trio that consisted of another guitarist/singer & a superb female vocalist I've known since school. We did a short spot at a food bank benefit gig in Cardiff & the positive reaction we received was overwhelming - loads of fantastic comments, offers of other gigs & even the offer of a UK support slot on somebody's tour. Probably not what you were looking for with this thread but I wanted to mention it because it's probably the most enjoyable, positive thing I've done in 34+ years of playing music.
