There's a Stick thread here if you've not seen it. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/164195-the-stick-thread/ I'm hopefully going to be getting another Stick in the next few weeks.

Don't know how "high end" you want the parts to be but the Trevor Wilkinson tuners & bridges are UK designed & are pretty good quality, probably not made here though.
-
I bought one back in the 80s but it sounded so horrible I took it back & got a refund.

Can't go wrong with Levinson gear, it's superb. I used a B4 jazz bass as my main instrument for 20 years & I've also got a Texas Standard strat style guitar which beats the crap aout of any "proper" strat I've ever played.
We got this far without Mark King. Does this tell you something about BC folk's vision of slap?
All it tells me is that you didn't read posts #44 & #47, and that some people aren't copying & pasting in the order the lists are being compiled in.
....as does Trevor Bolder.
I put him on the list 30 odd posts ago. I see my inclusion of Nick Beggs has been edited from the list too.
The last time this topic came up (a few months back) there were quite a few posters who were adamant that selling stuff on here for more than you paid for it was a massive abuse of the community and completely and utterly unforgivable.
The same "community" that has sold me knackered gear in the past & then used the old "well it was fine when it left me" line to wash their hands of all responsibility. I've been f***ed over for best part of £1000 on here so don't anybody dare have the nerve to talk to me about the noble community spirit that this forum has when it comes to buying & selling stuff.
...... It got fairly heated as I recall.
Really? I find it hard to believe that would have happened on a Basschat thread......
I was heavily criticised on here a few years ago for selling a bass for £200 more than i bought for on here....
I can't see what the problem is personally. The bottom line is if somebody thinks something is overpriced they don't have to buy it. I bought a bass on here a couple of years ago for a stupidly low price - I could ask £250 more than I paid for it & it would still be a bloody good buy. If I can make a decent profit & still sell something for a good price then I'll do it. I do occasionally buy bits of gear (when I see them at crazy low prices) purely with the intention of selling them for a profit. I've not done it on here but I've done it on Gumtree & Ebay with no qualms whatsoever. A good example of this is a valve guitar combo I got from a local seller early this year for a seriously stupid price (I don't haggle or try & knock the price down BTW - if I think it's a bargain I'll pay what the seller is asking) & recently sold at auction on Ebay for a 100% profit. Even at the price it went for it was a bargain, I made a tidy profit & the buyer got a great amp for a great price - what's the problem with that?
-
I've shipped basses & guitars all over Europe & to the US without any problems. The only places I won't ship to are Eastern European countries as there are just so many scammers & general shipping horror stories from those areas.
There's a reason that you see most studio's and their tech's using Mac.
All the studios I've done session work in over the years since digital became the norm have all used PC based systems. Been in four different studios this year & there wasn't a Mac to be seen in any of them. I've never had to sit around twiddling my thumbs for hours while they tried to get the PCs working properly or had them crash on me even once. I recorded with a producer who has had some major success over the years in January & when asked why he didn't use Macs he gave the same answer all the others gave me: Logic is a pain in the arse to work with. I'm not saying Macs don't get used in studios but this "most studios use Apple" myth is just not true.
....since a J isn't really a slap bass.....
Really? I would have said a Jazz bass was one of THE slap basses - Marcus Miller & plenty of others seem to think so.
-
How so? I'd never heard that before and can't find any reference to that at all. The only version I found was that Gillan took a load of 50s rock and roll lyrics and stuffed the all together in a song.
Of course you can't find any reference to it - I made it up.
-
There are quite a few of these if you look into it: Deep Purples "Speed King" was written about none other than banjolele toting B+W superstar George Formby.
-
The bass player was moonlighting with Sutherland Brothers & Quiver when Carrack found out about it & wrote the song.
-
I don't think that's true! Did they not used to have that Hugh Syme guy - or somebody similar - on stage playing some keyboards in the 80s?
No, they've only ever played as a three piece.
-
Looks like a stripped Fender Mustang to me, difficult to tell though.
....roll on 11 o'clock
Is that the time you'll be advertising it for sale?

What bass would serve best tonally as backup to acoustic guitar?
RhysP replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
... and it's getting more and more difficult to actually have a conversation at Basschat.
That's largely because people like you want to argue the toss about everything. I'm out of here. -

RhysP replied to mashup's topic in Bass Guitars
More people have played fretted and non-acoustic so surely that's the real cliche.
Who cares? I did qualify my original statement with "Personally...." and "but that's just me" - it wasn't a statement of absolute truth. -
How is that a cliche?
Because so many people have done it, how else?
