Todd Rundgren - Not seen him mentioned on here much :(
RhysP replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Todd was all over the stage in a bright yellow lycra onesie and really worked the crowd with a great set
I've seen plenty of photos of that yellow lycra outfit - a pretty scary sight given the legendary enormity of the Rundgren willy. -
Todd really knows how to wright catchy prog pop. This one's for RhysP
Thanks Nige. "Genius" is a much overused term, but I think it's valid in Todds case. I've been a huge fan of his since first hearing Utopia's "Caravan" on the Friday Rock Show when I was 15. Here's a pic of me & Todd from 1994: -
3 senior gents, moved to tears by their own song
RhysP replied to John Cellario's topic in General Discussion
I'm no Zeppelin fan but credit where credit is due that is a great, timeless song. Ann & Nancy Wilson are a class act. Must have been especially poignant for Robert, Jimmy & John to have Jason Bonham on stage playing his fathers old kit too. Even a cynical old sod like me got a bit misty eyed watching that. -
However, I still resent someone's tele holding sway over someone else's musical practice.
Why? It's all noise, one isn't inherently better than the other. Some people like to play music, some people like to watch TV, and they're all a pain in the arse if they do it too loud.
Because if you do that when then the winner cant pick the photo until a week into the next month.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the photo picking thing. Duh. (Wasn't suggesting what I said was a better idea, I just wondered why but obviously didn't take the photo thing into account).
Voting goes up 24th morning for 7 days voting... I think
What is the thinking behind this? Why is the competition not open for entries all month & have the voting take place the first week of the following month?
Also, tell them you have joined a Bass Forum FCS..!! ... they will think you are uber keen
Or they'll think he'll be too busy talking bollocks online with the rest of us to do any serious practice.
-
Might not be bad news, he might just want to arrange some extra practice sessions or to see how you're getting on with learning the set. Are you planning on this band being a major source of income for you? If not then even if they tell you your services are not required it's no big deal in the grand scheme of things is it? Another band will come along.
Have others experienced this phenomenon?
I experienced the exact opposite. Played fretless for years but one day just found myself hating it. Sold it & haven't missed it for a second. Can't even listen to fretless players anymore without wanting to vomit.
is you the pigz?
That's definitely not Nige - he would have said "Feds".

I have to say Precision because there is nothing I like about Jazz basses - don't like the sound, don't like the necks & think they are really ghastly looking.
It doesn't say it's on here. Says live at the apollo.
Maybe Shappi Khorsandi is going to give us her version of "Concerto for Group & Orchestra"......

No, it's flame maple with a transparent black finish & all black hardware. Sexy as f***.

How about a trans black finish like my Euro 5LX?
Regarding your hobby comment if I was doing in range of 50 hours or musical practice a week would that count as a hobby?
IMO yes.
Also what you're saying is that any musician who has another source of income can't be a pro player? Which is ludicrous.
Why is is ludicrous? Have you never heard of the term "Semi-Professional"?

80's Tokai Hardpuncher & 1996 Japan Fender Precison
RhysP replied to Jonesy64's topic in Bass Guitars
They're both excellent choices if you're looking for a Precision. The MIJ Fenders are in many peoples opinion (mine included) the best available quality-wise, and the Tokai will most likely also be as good. As far as choice goes I guess it will come down to aesthetics, but those early 80s Tokai models are becoming more sought after so might possibly be a better investment. Replacement scratchplates shouldn't be a problem, but you could always get Bassdoc on here to make you a tort one using your original as a template - it would be better quality than a shop bought one. -
If I was doing this is a hobby I wouldn't be such a problem....
Do you earn your living as a musician? You say you have a full time job so I assume you're not a pro player. Regardless of how much time & effort you put into your playing or what you expect to achieve from all this practice, if it's not your main or only source of income then like it or not it's just a hobby.
He's got two. He's currently using a powered mixer. Perhaps just a change of speakers would do although saying that the the mixer is quite a large heavy beast.
I guess the only option other than variations on what he uses already would be a combo of some sort. The Roland ones are pretty good, and some of them run in stereo too. Peavey keyboard combos are OK, and can be bought really cheaply secondhand, though the older ones will tend to be pretty bulky & very weighty. Ultimately it depends on his budget.
