Marshall bass amps, any interest in a JCM800?
RhysP replied to bigsmokebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Then again I am a ridiculous Heavy Rock caricature.
Good man, keep the flag flying - I really miss the days when I was one. -
Iv always fancied tryin a bogart( i love the sound and playability of zons but not so keen on the asthetics)But you dont see many about, awesome stuff though. Ill be keepin my eyes open for a used one
The Bogart I owned sounded & felt absolutely nothing like my Zons. Don't let that put you off trying one though - they really are great basses.

Having just had to turn down an excellent band because of the hours I work I know exactly how frustrating it can be - good luck with getting back into a band & doing something you enjoy.

I sold my Ashdown ABM C110 300watt combo & bought an EBS combo - I really wish I'd just stuck with the Ashdown as it's the only amp I've never had any trouble with.

Don't know how relevant this is to the thread, but I've just got back from seeing basschat member danthewelshy play with his band - he was using a Barefaced cab (think he said it was a prototype Big Baby) with a Hartke head & it sounded f***ing awesome.
I was wondering why Cranes in Swansea has loads of Hudsons on display.
They probably had loads of Tanglewoods going back a few years too. I never knew there was a Cranes in Swansea.
Very sorry I will try again with your own quote, so Lakland Skylines are inexpensive at £1250? Better?
No, you're still being seriously thick, and are now trying to be a smartarse by trying to make out I said something I didn't. I was clarifying what I meant by "Cheap", and was referring to budget instruments made by the Cort factories - I at no time used this in relation to Laklands or any other f***ing bass that the OP didn't mention. Why anybody would think I meant the Lakland Skyline range when I said "cheap" I cannot imagine. Why are you finding this difficult, do you have a plate in your head or something?
-
Are Lakland skylines cheap at £1250?
For f***s sake, it wasn't me who mentioned Laklands! Are you stupid? When I said cheap, or whatever word you personally deem suitable, I was talking about the budget instruments the OP originally mentioned. Is that easy enough for you to understand?
An unplayed bass kept for investment is sacrilegious.
The large majority of the really rare vintage guitars & basses that are sold aren't bought my musicians, they're bought by rich professionals as investments. A lot of them probably never get played.

I found I started to make more progress when I began to think of my Stick as an instrument in its own right rather than a "bass or guitar with more strings". The hardest part is trying to "unthink" your years of playing bass or guitar as the technique & feel involved with a tapping instrument is very different. The learning curve is pretty steep but I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. I'm hoping to have another Stick in my possession within the next six weeks or so - can't wait!
though so is Lakland, Squier and Fender built in Cort factories so Cort doesn't necessarily mean cheap
By "Cheap" I meant "Inexpensive", not "crap quality" * * PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT REFERRING TO ANY OF THE BASSES THAT LukeRFC HAS MENTIONED IN THE ABOVE QUOTED POST, JUST THE ONES REFERRED TO BY THE OP.
I also didn't say the bass wasn't any good.
The title of your thread is "MY CRAP BASS" - if that's not saying your bass isn't any good then I'd like to know what is. There are lots of people on here genuinely trying to help you out & I've got to say that your attitude towards them stinks. I've given you the benefit of the doubt until now but I honestly think you're just trolling. Please don't bother posting another one of your "I'm terribly hurt & nobody understands me" responses to this - I've read enough of them already.
Your away on business and your evenings entertainment local to your hotel is .. A. A bar with a neon sign outside saying "girls" B. A bar with a sign saying Neo nazi night C. A bar with "tribute bands night" advertised Which option do you take, not wanting to degrade yourself?
Surely Neo Nazis are nothing more than a tribute act?
Just looking at the Tanglewood Canyons that are under £150, and it occurred to me that these look just like the Hudson brand and some Corts too. Are they just the same thing?
Basically yes. The Tanglewood & Hudson stuff are definitely related (Tanglewood were a brand owned by the guy that owns Cranes in Cardiff & so are Hudson) & I think they (and many other cheap import lines) are built in the Cort factory

Apart from old Fenders & the odd exception like Wal I think you stand to lose a fair bit of money on anything you buy new. There's so much good secondhand gear around these days that I'd never buy new again anyway.

I once turned my old 70s Rick 4001 from plain black to black & white stripes, but I did it with a low tack self adhesive tape so the process was completely reversible (Don't have any photo's unfortunately). Personally I'd think twice about doing anything that would require a lot of work and/or expense to change if & when you got bored with it or decided to sell the bass.

does this paint scheme have an official name?

If that finish was on a 70's precision or Jazz many of you would be creaming your pants over it. -
Lowering the pickup won't address the volume imbalance as all the strings will be equally farther from the pickup.
You only lower it on the E string side, not both sides.
