I've never seen myself playing on video like that, and I'm very worried that after 32+ years of playing I'd find out that I sound just like that kid.
I missed this year's but will be there in March on Saturday.
Right that settles it, I'm definitely going - on Sunday.

Could have been the old "off stage keyboard player" routine. It's not very Rock'n'Roll to have a boring old ivory tinkler on stage, so many bands stick 'em behind the backdrop so they don't spoil the look of the guitarists while they're throwing shapes - quite right too......
Looks amazing. Always thought these felt like my bass. Lovely.
Ta! It's a beauty, isn't it? I especially love the inlays. Joe Zon apparently built this bass as an exhibition piece for a NAMM show. He commissioned an inlay specialist to do the work on the fingerboard, which are mother of pearl Celtic chains:

I'm praying that nobody starts a "Show us your number 2's" thread.

Excellent review - nice one.

I went to Bass Direct today........and bought this

Awesome colour! -
I quite fancy going but it's an expensive day out on the train from Cardiff. Depends if I'm working on the Saturday (which I don't know yet). All the negative comments about the noise last year put me off the idea a bit.

Why are there so many copies of Fender basses?
RhysP replied to The Dark Lord's topic in Bass Guitars
The people you are slagging off are quite good with a screwdriver and very successful businessmen for a reason.
Fixed. -
I shouldn't be surprised (because I'm a bassist), but...
You'll never get the sound of a 12 through using effects. I suppose everyone's different, but with the sort of sounds I use (loads of treble) you get a chime effect that you just simply cannot re-create with effects. You'll get the note sure, but you'll never, ever get the ludicrous amounts of harmonics and overtones that a 12 string generates.
This is totally correct. There's a natural chorusing/shimmering effect that happens with a 12ver that sounds awesome. I tried using a chorus pedal on my Hamer 12ver once & I found that it completely killed the sound - it lost all of the overtones & just sounded messy. -
Tony Butler Signature Bass - Vintage V4MTB
RhysP replied to TransistorBassMan's topic in Bass Guitars
I think having a signature bass that's only a cheap knock-off would be pretty depressing. -
Steinberger XM-2 4 string bass in red with white binding. SOLD !!
RhysP replied to eubassix's topic in Basses For Sale
I seem to remember they were originally made for Mike Rutherford because he wanted a Steinberger but didn't get on with the 'cricket bat' design models.
I think that's correct. If I remember rightly Roger Giffin designed the body shape. -
Fantastic grain pattern on that - look forward to seeing it finished.
Extremely vibrant and present, but with a slightly softer, more vocal high end compared to the snap of a Modulus or a Status. It is very rich and organic sounding, which gives it a character as at home accompanying a nylon string guitar or in a busy mix of drums and guitars.
This is what I love about my Zons - they sound so much warmer than any other carbon fibre necked bass I've tried & they sit in a mix really well because of this.
Anyone ever worked out the groovy riff at the start of this ? Would love the music/tab of this....one to play with a synth bass effect for sure
I can get pretty much exactly the same sound out of my EBS envelope filter, which is the reason I bought it.
Yep.
You got it for £300? SERIOUS bargain, even with the neck repair. Nice one!
What do people think about his vocals though? (Hillage that is, not Allen)
Always liked his voice, suits the material perfectly IMO.

Did you buy the BC Rich Eagle on Ebay?

What was your most embarrassing moment at a gig?
RhysP replied to duncbassgit's topic in General Discussion
First gig I ever played was an all dayer in West Sussex. We were on immediately before China Crisis who were headlining so we had a pretty decent sized crowd. All day there had been this crazy drunk woman wandering round the site making a pain in the arse of herself - at one point she walked over to me & kicked me in the back for no reason whatsoever while I was sat on the floor. She quickly became known as "Cider Woman". We were a couple of numbers into our set when I noticed she was standing right in front of my monitor, so when it came to an instrumental bit I went to the front of the stage & struck my best Phil Lynott pose with my bass neck pointing out over her head. Quick as a flash her hands shot upwards & grabbed the neck of my bass & tried to pull me off the stage. I tried to pull the bass away from her but she had a grip like a f***ing tyre fitter! The only thing I could think to do, and I'm very ashamed to admit this, was kick her in the face. Luckily she must have read my mind & relaxed her grip leaving me to go stumbling back across the stage just in time to start singing the next verse of the song. -
What sort of five string are you looking for? I've got a Bogart SKC carbon fibre/composite five string I might be up for swapping if you're interested. Probably won't appeal to you if you're a Fender devotee though. There's a thread about it here: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 I'm in Cardiff too - how convenient is that? (Also only fair to add that if you want something in mint condition this isn't it - it's in very good condition though).

"Still Life" is one of my favourite albums of all time. The first side with "Pilgrims", "Still Life" & "La Rossa" is just superb. Bought the CD remaster a few years back & it's one of the most frequently played things on my ipod.
